  • The Nintendo Wii offers one of the most unique gaming experiences. The motion sensing and pointing detection of the Wii remote lets you combine tradition buttons and joysticks with your own body movement to create an immersive play environment.
    In this tutorial we'll use the Dolphin emulator, a Wii Remote and a USB sensor bar to turn your PC into a full Wii gaming system.
    Check out the project page on my main website for links and details.

    I'd heard that, if you're able to do so safely, you can use 2 lit candles placed on either side of the TV in lieu of a sensor bar (as the flames emit enough infrared light to make the Wiimote think it's detecting the sensor bar's infrared light). And it totally works!

      There is a setting in the dolphin control panel that lets you specify if the sensor bar is above or below the screen. Other than that I find the further back from the screen you are the more accurate the aiming seems. If you get too close and it really doesn't work very well so try to find a sweet spot that works for you.

      I'm sure you've tried the standard ideas; use new batteries, get the remote very close to the PC, make sure there are no other Bluetooth devices getting in the way including the Wii itself.
      If all that fails try scanning for Bluetooth devices with your phone or some other Bluetooth device. This should test if the Wii is transmitting OK. If you can see the WiiMote there it might be some incompatibility between the PC and the WiiMote. Maybe try a cheap Bluetooth dongle. If you can't see the WiiMote on any other devices it might be a bad remote. If you've got a Wii console try it with that to check.
      I hope this helps.

    If you can't find good 3rd party or genuine Wii remote. Just go for any gamepad that has gyroscope DS4 DualSense or get Joy Con. You might have to remap all buttons and have to test and repeat but it is alternative way. You may have to get 2 gamepads in order to "mimic" wii remote itself and nunchuck

    Heads up. Thirdy party controllers aka anything that isn't an official wii controller/made by nintendo is going to be more of a hassle to get working. If you can use an official wii controller, do so. If you end up using a third party/non nintendo manufactured wii remote lookalike, you will need to use the "passthrough a bluetooth adapter" in the dolphin controller settings and you will need to install the relevant drivers. This video helped me out with this since I have third party controllers ruclips.net/video/SNJMGjsxjwQ/видео.html

    What do you connect the Wii Sensor cable to for the PC? It's not USB connection or anything like that, looks like unique connector to the Wii Console only.

    • @BytesNBits
      @BytesNBits  6 месяцев назад

      The original sensor has the special connector and I think operates at 9 or 12 volts. You need to buy a USB powered sensor bar. This will then get powered from any USB port or charger. I think they are about £10 on Amazon.

    I would be careful of getting the cheap Wii Remotes (those without a Wii logo and/or sold in pairs) because these controllers usually don't perform well as the genuine Nintendo controllers and the battery life usually isn't good. Also, I've seen reports that they may not work in Dolphin.
    The best way to check if the controller is fake is check if the controller has the Wii logo as well as *RVL-003* (or *RVL-036* for the Wii Remote Plus) next to the connector. If the Wii Remote or Classic Controller is missing the Wii logo or has a different logo, then it's a fake. Another method is to remove the battery cover and the AA batteries (Ni-Mh) and look if the controller has triwing screws. Fake controllers usually use Philips screws. This also works for the Nunchuk and Wii MotionPlus. Also, it's worth noting that Nintendo never sells controllers in packs, nor does it sell the Wii Remote with the Nunchuk with the exception of the console where the Wii Remote (mostly RVL-001 Wiis especially Japanese models) or Wii Remote Plus (mostly RVL-101 Wiis) is bundled with the Nunchuk.
