    I really feel like we're in the golden age of hardware hacking. I just got done modding my GameCube to use HDMI, be powered off of USB C, and have a bluetooth connection for controllers, and can't wait to see more wii mods.

    The lack of HDMI on the Wii really is odd considering when the system came out. HDMI was pretty standard for new TVs in 2006 as far as I know. Nice work as usual!

    • @butterccm
      @butterccm Год назад +7

      I forget who it was but I remember someone who was a lead on the Wii saying they regretted not adding an hdmi port

    • @StephanieHua

      I think Nintendo made the right choice as not only did they save in manufacturing, but it helped sell to places like nursing homes, hospitals, daycares, etc.
      I feel HDMI became more standard in like 2009. I had many friends at school, (as well as long distance over the internet), who were playing their Xbox 360s and PS3s with composite/component cables. I personally bought my first HDMI TV in like 2008, but it was to mainly experience 1080p games like Gran Turismo Prologue.

    • @nerdloftgaming
      @nerdloftgaming Год назад +5

      Not really odd considering CRT’s were still around then. The original XBOX 360 released the year prior, and it didn’t have HDMI either.

    • @BLOODY__FATALITY
      @BLOODY__FATALITY Год назад +1

      I personally didn't have a HD TV until around 2009/2010 myself so it didn't bug me and it actually looked surprisingly good on my HD TV with it's AV ports so I was never bothered by it until I upgraded to a 4K monitor a few years back without any AV ports. Luckily that's a easy fix by just buying a retrotink to line double it to make the image a bit cleaner and output it in HDMI.

    • @MarkCurtis-u6o
      @MarkCurtis-u6o 6 месяцев назад +3

      Hardly standard in 2006. It was certainly available in 2006. It wasn't really 'common' until 2009-2010.

    A VERY tiny correction, but while the PS3 had HDMI out of the box, at first the 360 only had analog too, though it supported full RGBHV through VGA as well as component. It wasn't until the later "Elite" model that they finally provided digital HDMI output. Still, it's a very tiny nitpic since the majority of the 360's lifespan, it had that port post- Elite. Not to mention there's very few of those pre-Elite consoles still in working order for red ring reasons...

    instead of tining these holes by hand you could use solder paste or solder balls and pre-tin with hot air. i guess it would be awesome to align the ribbon at pre-attached solder balls on the motherboard. just by swiping over with the soldering iron they would melt perfectly with the solder joints of the ribbon cable

    I was looking into that or the pinecil
    I want to do the picoboot mod and a RCM X86 chip for my switch, which iron do you think is the better choice?
    I like the idea of the pine iron being cordless but is it good enough for those mods ,not looking to do anything more complicated like mariko mods

    • @LIRetroGaming
      @LIRetroGaming  Год назад +1

      Personally I like the Hakko a lot as an all purpose, high quality iron. It will certainly work for those mods you mentioned. The wireless irons are nice but in my experience they don’t last all that long

    • @panopolis8051
      @panopolis8051 Год назад +1

      One thing to consider is the thermal mass of the soldering iron. A cheap soldering iron would work fine for most stuff, but will usually struggle to melt solder that is connected to a large ground, power plane or heatsink. A higher quality iron will be able to handle such things much better.

      i got the pinecil too! its still in the box. i reinstalled the ave hdmi mod on my wii. after i assembled it😢 had to take it apart and reflow the vias. what a pain😅 its good now..stayed up all night disassembling it and fixing it. oof

  • @BLOODY__FATALITY
    @BLOODY__FATALITY Год назад

    Personally if you are playing a bunch of old systems with older outputs like AV, S video, scart, etc., I reccommend investing in a Retrotink 5x. It's somewhat pricey but it saves you a lot of money and time in the long run from mods and adapters by giving you really good image quality out of any console you throw at it. It can even tackle the N64 pretty well which is saying something considering how notorious that console is to get a decent image out of on modern displays. Really big fan of Mike Chi's work. I want to save up and get that new Retrotink 4K since I hear it's even more impressive than the 5x.

    • @LIRetroGaming

      The Tink products are great and I have them too. I think it all depends on how you use your setup and how many consoles you own

    • @JonnyFlash80

      Nah too expensive. A GBS-C or OSSC is much cheaper and works fine. I personally use the GBS-C because of the motion adaptive de-interlacing.
