  • Let's use Wiimote and Nunchuk to play FPS games on PC, shall we, should we? We use the GlovePIE software to help us and compare how it feels to use the Wiimote to play FPS games on the Wii and on a PC.
    Yes, I think the game should be made specifically for the Wiimote to work properly, but we can always try different fun ways to use the Wiimote on PC these days, as I'll try to show in these videos. My videos only show one way to use it, the way I like to use the Wiimote.

    Some problems? Here are my tips, if these don't work for you, sorry, you're on your own.
    1. I assume that you have already established a connection between the Wiimote and the PC.This video doesn't go into all the details, so check Google for more instructions.
    2. The easiest way to test if the Wiimote works with a PC is to test the controller with the Wii Dolphin emulator. If the connection works between them, the Wiimote should also work with the GlovePIE program.
    3. Finally, my personal experiences of using the GlovePIe program. I use the program with the Windows 10 operating system. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on. Press the Wiimote 1 and 2 buttons at the same time, and the controller will wake up ready for use. Open the GlovePIE-0.46 application, open the 'WiimotePlus+Nunchuk.PIE' file through the application (File & Open). Start the application with the RUN button, immediately after this press the 1 and 2 buttons again of the Wiimote at the same time. Leave the Wiimote on your desk when starting so it can calibrate. Wait until the first Wiimote LED lights up (some games require pressing the HOME button at this point), then it's READY to use.
    Sometimes I also have trouble getting a connection between the Wiimote and GlovePIE, so I try this way: Go to the GlovePIE installation folder and look for the GlovePIE application launch icon. Next, find the desired WiimotePlus+Nunchuk.PIE file (I have saved these files in the same folder as the GlovePIE application). Use the mouse to grab the WiimotePlus+Nunchuk.PIE file and drag it onto the GlovePIE application launch icon. The GlovePIE app should now launch this way as well.
    NOTE: Connecting the Wiimote to the PC usually takes 2-3 tries before it works, and after that the controller works perfectly.

    you`d think wiimote style controllers would be a thing on pc. even with a sensor bar. sensor bars are cheap and easy to plug in now what with them being usb powered. such a fun control method that died out before it was fully explored imo. need a wii 2 to happen.

      I don't know, I think the game should be made specifically for the Wiimote controller in order to work properly. But we can always try different fun ways to use Wiimote todays, as I'm trying to show with these videos. This video just shows one way how to use Wiimote to play FPS games, the way I like to use it. I have a USB sensor bar and have trying to use it like a mouse, pointing the screen. In my opinion, this method does not work as well compared to motion control. I think the sensor bar method works especially in Arcade Shooting games, like The House of the Dead, where the camera moves by itself. The way I use the Wiimote on PC is like this current Gyro Controls method, have you heard of it? Today, Nintendo Switch and PS5 utilize this control method in games such as Fortnite, Resident Evil 5 and Overwatch 2. I hope this answered your question at least partially.

      @@BroidiTR1 orly. I haven't used the wiimote for mouse navigation but I have a wireless air mouse for pc use in the living room and I love it except the constant need for recalibration as it needs re-centering. What I mean is I've thought some other technology similar to this but more accurate would be more popular or even standard. I know LG essentially use the whole TV as a sensor bar for their TV remotes and that works great. Something similar to that. Then games could be built around it. Obviously if the games were designed around the tech they would be better than not. The wii was such a big succeed you'd think the tech would still be around somewhat but it is all but dead which is a massive shame. Gyro is relatively big but the remote form factor isn't.
      I've got a ps navigation controller and I use it for so many different games, even other software, in conjunction with rewasd. This and a mouse for FPS is great. A wiimote style controller with sensor bar would compliment it but it just doesn't seem to be a thing. I'd like to pair it with a wiimote for dolphin but I haven't figure it out yet. Hope its possible. The wire connecting the nunchuck was always a pain wii 2 would sort it!
      Can you elaborate why you say motion control is better than a wiimote? I have only used gyro in zelda on switch. Not a fan of moving the whole controller two handed but I can imagine it being much better with a wiimote. Will look into it, thanks. Haven't checked if wiimote it's compatible with rewasd but it's great software if you haven't seen it.

      @@eazyrat Nice to hear that you have found a working way to use motion control to play games.
      "...motion control is better than a wiimote?" Wiimote IS the motion controller, with infrared sensor bar pointer. I just ignore this POINTER system when I use Wiimote to play PC games. With using only a motion, I use it similar like you use your "air mouse". So I also need to recalibrate, or as I would say "reset" the position of my cursor every now and then. I don't have experience with Playstation motion controllers, but I do have LG remote, and it detects motion like the Wiimote controller.
      The more I use the Wiimote on PC, the better my control method gets. I recommend watching my latest videos. Especially in the Fortnite video, I tell almost all the time how the controllability feels, and in the Doom video (after the initial stumbles) we see what we can achieve with this control method.
      reWASD doesn't support the Wiimote, but I might try it later for a different reason. It's like the AntiMicro software I use for games that don't support gamepads.
      With Dolphin, I recommend just buy original Wiimote+ controller with nunchuk, emulator recognise it immediately and works perfectly (except the controller speaker), no need any button remap.

      @@BroidiTR1i think you mean that todays gyro controls actually control the camera, rather then just the pointer. That is the major difference on the functional difference between pointer aim, and aiming the camera.
      unfortunatly most console implementation seem to use rightstick value's instead of treeating it like a mouse. The rightstick is acceleration based. meaning the the stick aplies more or less accleration dipending on how far you tilt it. So if translated to gyro, then fast movements will not get picked up. There is a maximum and minimum turn speed.
      A mouse is displacemetn based and can therefore translate your speed of movement without any deadzones or maximum turn speeds. It is way easier for developers to code in mouse controls and use that for the gyro, then it is for them to have to code in acceleration curves.
      So to my all developers seem like really dumb and unknowledable. All they have to do is read the gyro wiki, or watch a few video's to understand the basics. It is literally that easy. But even on pc they dont even know what raw mouse input is anymore.all whe seem to get is forced on mouse acceleration (wich kind of resembles the stick acceleration curve), only it is based on how fast you move the mouse (the faster you move the more acceleration gets appied).
      Mouse movemt should be 1:1 and should be a straight up multiplier. So the sensitivity slider in pc games should just use straght multipliers instead of acceleration. These where basica nd pretty much stnadards in the late 90's and earlty 2000. What happened to decent developers?

      It sounds like you are missing some files required by Windows, not the application files. I myself use Windows 10. You should find out what files this application requires, use Google to search for them on the Internet and find out where these missing files should be placed in Windows.

      I don't know, what if you try this first: Go to "GlovePIE-0.46" folder, inside it you will find a "WiimoteScripts" folder. In that folder, there is this "lednerg WiiMotion Plus Mouse.PIE" script, try to make it work. it's the same as my script, I've just modified it to suit for me. If you can't get this to work, that my script probably won't work for you either. The problem is somewhere else...

      My Wiimote doesn't connect right away on the first try, after a few tries it starts working. It also depends on your Bluetooth receiver if you cannot connect. If you can, try a different USB slot for the Bluetooth stick. The easiest way to test the connection is to try it with the Wii Dolphin emulator.

    • @JcKong14
      @JcKong14 4 месяца назад

      @@BroidiTR1 it connects to the dolphin emulator but it’s when I press run in the gloviepie program, it says Wii motion plus not detected. Do you think it’s because I don’t have a sensor bar? Or do you think it’s something else?

    • @BroidiTR1
      @BroidiTR1  4 месяца назад

      @@JcKong14 The sensor bar does not affect the connection. The Glovepie program comes with the program's own Wiimote scripts, try to see if you can get them to work. You can always edit some of my scripts if they require editing. Sorry, I can't advise more than that, if the problem is somewhere else.
