When you hear an absolute professional as Arpad, better listen closely to what he says… thanks to all involved for that great and inspiring interview
I've seen Stapleton twice in concert. The first show, I got tickets from a friend who couldn't use them, and they were in the upper bowl to the side. Even from the upper bowl it sounded incredible. I have been to a LOT of concerts in all types of venues, and this was the first time I had heard "warm, club sound" in a bigger arena. I decided to buy tickets to see him again last June and we splurged for floor tickets beside FOH. I truly could not believe the sound I was hearing and it was without a doubt in my top 3 shows of all time. It was so good, that I bought tickets to see them a third time this July in Toledo. Arpad and the rest of the team behind this show are doing an incredible job. Thank you for uploading this video!
Love the Midas. So great to see old school mixing with outboard gear
I believe Dave Rat expiremented with the dual PA systems.
Yeah I think he discussed it in his video on Coachella PA through the years
Didn't Dave employ drums/vocals in one, all else in the other?
@@FOH3663yes well remembered! I just had a look back at the video - he had vocals and drums in one pa hang and guitars and bass in the other
I’d be interested to know how the other acts used the PA or whether they were just given one hang a side and the dual was used only for RHCP
I jyst watched a video with Dave from 2020. He says he did a small mockup but never actually did it. On a side note. I had a roomate in California in 1990 that told me his idea about having a sub woofer use a motor instead of a voice coil. Dave proved it can be done.
@@changemeahh i watched another video. You are right. He hung 2 line arrays on each side and didn't want to run the same signal through both for obvious reasons
I can’t believe I watch this entire video while searching for some mixing info. What have I become?? An audio nerd?! 😅
LOVE analog! The difference between analog and digital to me is like vinyl to CD. Such a wonderful warmth out of those Midas boards. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Love this interview. So much wisdom here with Arpad. Thank you for bringing this to us!
I heard CS play in New Hampshire in the summer of 2023. I was amazed by the drum kit sounds coming from a comparatively simple drum kit for these days. Big sound for a small kit… Great show and great audio.
I really like the longer videos. This one is cool. He sounds so good live.
This is insane. I’m rehearsing in the same warehouse as bsb and *NSYNC started in. Gives me chills. I pray 🙏 my debut album is just as successful
I’d love to fly to you and have coffee pick you’d brain. Let me know. Thanks so much
Great interview with so many nuggets of wisdom/experience. Arpad is right, everyone knows what sounds good. But only a few can make it sound that way!
Thank you, Nick and Arpad for sharing.
Just saw Staptelon at T-mobile arena last night.. Best sounding show I've ever heard in that arena so I had to come learn about the legend that made it happen
I think I may have detected a small ‘whoosh’ at 42.13 when Arpad made a Spinal Tap joke. Probably didn’t land at the time due to the background house music, but made me chuckle on the playback.
And thanks for this video - a really insightful watch.
Edit: the separate singing / talking channels for CS is a genius solution.
TL was one of my audio mentors, I learned a lot from him. what a wonderful human. RIP TL!
Very nice interview…love Arpad’s shirt!
Analogy is definitely better than digital!! A lot warmer and I’m pretty sure that every musician prefers to have a warmer sound like the good old vinyl records that there parents had !!
I love his Tshirt and totally agree!! Eq racks and the old delay pedal was amazing to see rather than the rack units !! I think that many sound techs around the globe should watch this video to learn how using PA systems that may take a little bit longer for that sweet sound is so much better than a sound desk which almost locks you out to edit !
So yes analog is greater than digital!!
Cheers for sharing this video!! 🙏
Nice & Knowledgeable Man. Great interview!
Where can I get one of those t-shirts? Make Analog great again?? May need several LOL
Nice job Arpad!!!!! YES.
Dude. One of the most inspiring/eye opening interviews of a FOH I’ve ever seen. Great stuff man
This was a great interview. I have worked with John McBride and he is definitely an analog guy. Martina McBride's sound is amazing.
Rise against is awesome!! Love their music and their message!
Your camera was doing some crazy stuff during that interview.
Great interview and format! Subscribed! Looking forward to diving into the rest of the catalog.
Keep up the great content!
That Michael Ruff track is tight as ever. Wow.
Nothing sounds like a Midas Heritage preamp running warm.
This is incredible. What really really great interview. On top I learned a few things!
Killing it with this format and style of video! FYI sounds fine here re the ambient noise etc - did well considering 👍
The Memphis show!! I was there!!!! Like 4 rows in front of FOH!
Great Video Nick!!!!!
I use wave designer on my kick and snare.... its a magic box
a band I worked with for 3 tours, suddenly decided they wanted all new digital PA and stage sound, and although it did simplify the FOH and monitor load in, and added some tools that were helpful, it always sounded thin , there was just a certain level of warmth missing and a hollow spot in the midrange that could never be defeated , it was always there no matter what venue, no matter inside or outside, we even had 2 separate FOH guys and it sounded the same, switched back to analog on the last leg of the tour, and it was like getting your old girlfriend back ,
Digital does that, can seem super flat but you have much more tools to get a banging mix
Dude you're channel rocks! Arpad gave a great interview. He makes everything in life sound easy and fun.
I self taught myself to be a sound engineer by shadowing the techs at my local concert hall and I started out on 32 channel allen and heath gl3300 then worked up to 40 channel midas legend 3000 and 40 channel allen and heath ml5000 I just love the sound of analogue desks
Great Interview!!!
It would be great to be in demand enough to be able to go back to analog. All the smaller shows and festivals I do require digital mixers.
awwwwweeeesome........👊👊
This dude is awesome. Great interview.
Thank you!
@@ThisIsDeLaCruz Was he referring to you or me? HA HA HA
I'm always gravitating towards mixing and engineering videos it's literally a passion for me. I was pleasantly surprised when Arpad said that he initially started at Briggs music. That was my first job as a teenager. Milton Briggs gave so many people opportunities to fulfill their musical ambitions. Arpad must've started after I left because the store had just started becoming interested in recording. Their first device was a Tascam 4 track. Amazing interview, great job.
Milton Briggs did help a lot of people. Was Steve Stafford working there when you were? Small world
Yeah bro, Steve was the man. Eric Absolon, Ron & Kenneth Barbara. There was so much talent in that little store. Of course, like yourself, I did a lot of moving around. I eventually, years later, ended up moving to Atlanta recording and doing projects working in DARP, Bosstown, and Patchwork studios. My mentor Alvin Speight was one of the most humble greats in the industry. Again, it's a pleasure watching you share with viewers your engineering journey. I'm currently living in Delaware, so if you're ever touring through my neck of the woods, I would definitely like to meet you.
That thumbnail is hilarious. Keep up the good work.
Thanks!
This dude knows his stuff I’ve been to a Chris Stapleton concert and no matter where you were the sound was loud and clear one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to and I don’t like country music
Apologies if I missed this in the video - did anyone see what mics & and mic pres are being used for Stapleton’s Fender Princetons?
I'm Curious about. Just one room only reverb, why M7 and SPX2000?
What is the model# for that Studer unit? That's an interesting idea I'd like to try out...
Looks like a homebrew thingy to me.
Ha nice shout out to Rise Against!! Zach Blair used to be the receptionist in my brother's law office, long before RA.
Heck yea for the money but having to listen to the music all the time would def be a hard job ahah
Well damn your not going to give a run down of all the gear?
so if I love those words, does that make me a nerd?
The Sound on this Video is soo dry. I would really have liked to hear at least a bit of Room. Makes it pretty hard to listen in my opinion.
I had to remove the ambient noise because there was house music and every time I uploaded it RUclips kicked it back, saying there was a copyright issue. Trying my best.
ahh I was wondering what that was. At first I thought it was the two lavs too close together and phasing!
@@ThisIsDeLaCruzwhat software you use to remove ambient noise?
Enjoyed watching! Thank you.
pretty wild that this dude went out and got recorded, taped and edited an hour long interview with a world class sound guy just for you to comment on the dryness of the recording done in an arena lol
