He is a legend and one of my greatest inspirations. I learned a ton of everything with the webinars he did and the awesome labs. Thank you Robert and thank you Nick for this amazing conversation. Cheers from Germany.
amazing, the guy behind RUSH's concert sound, Def Leppard and Kenny...... makes me want to see Kenny now because I know the sound will be indescribable!!!! Robert truly is a Master at what he does!!!!
Known Robert since the early RUSH days. Awesome guy. Always had me up behind the console to share what new goodies he had. What a great guy.... Thank you Robert.
Robert is one of the few that bridges the gap of technical knowledge and artistic passion. His ability to articulate the science of mixing in such a easy way inspires me to become better and not get bogged down in my habits. Thanks for the great content Nick!!!
You know the best thing about Robert, is if you've ever spent time with him, you'll get this: he's a friend for life. He's top of the class because he cares about people and he mixes stuff pretty good too.
Fun fact, at university i used to play country songs when preparing for my calculus exams. Just saw this now and it's been a while since i last played a country song but i definitely remember all the country musician names from my uni days...you can tell how excited i am as a self-taught producer and engineer seeing this but also nostalgic, seeing "Kenny Chesney" name, about my good old math prodigy days.
I’ve talked to Robert a few times, it’s amazing in what he does. I hope to chat with him at Foxboro when I go to the show… He’s a really cool down to earth guy who likes to help however he can…
I've mixed a few thousand shows in my time (I left the biz just BEFORE digital became common). Compared to what I had in the early 70's, the tools available today are absolutely stunning. Triggers for gates on the drums is something I did back in 80's...a very cool concept. Those transformers are essentially de-digitizers. They were common on many types of old analogue gear and provided that "classic" sound. I really liked his advice on learning to mix (I wish I had had that studio experience before being thrown into the fire many years ago). The fact that he constantly listens to music and is absorbing mirrors my experience, starting as a young boy. Great piece.
This video is incredible! For the guitar amps, perhaps I missed it, are they keeping cabs elsewhere or are they using something like an OX with an IR to get their tones?
Thank you, Robert, for your years of service. I actually met my beautiful wife at a Kenny Chesney show. When I looked her in the eye during "I Finally Found Somebody" I knew then and there that she was the one. 1997 Cincinnati. All these years later, and Kenny is still the most erotic music to plow my beautiful wife to. We put down a tarp and get demonic. Scares the dog away. Good times, and such great memories. Thank you Robert.
Absolute bs. Get in a studio to learn how to mix. The greatest live engineers have never been in a studio. And these studio guys can’t mix live without their 10000 plug in. As far as I am concerned this guy ruined live sound with those digi design console
I understand where your coming from however he wouldn’t be were he is if he did do both and all the guys and gals I look up to who do live sound have been audio people as well, so it’s not BS….
@@flashanddancedj he is where he is because he created a console. he is where he is because of bs. have you heard Kenny s latest show. Drums and a vocal that's all you can hear. and that's the modern mix going on these days from must Audio engineers. drums drums more drums. I worked with a country artist mixing her in ears and all she could hear most nights was drums coming from the PA system. and there is nothing that fixes that except a better audio engineer

He got fired from rush.

When this started I thought this guy seems really smart…
By the end I realized he is a genius
So much wisdom coming from this man.

I learned so much from Robert, it's insane. A lot of basic informations that no one gives you, but are essential in the first place.

My very first concert was one Scovill mixed, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in 1995.
Great interview! I was a life long friend of Bob Heil, we lived near each other. I worked for Heil Sound back in the seventies.

Great interview ! Thanks to his Baby sitter for having introduced him to the Beatles...
Snare drum with a speaker and Smart interface built into it for phase alignment of overheads......mind blown.......

When is Chris Rabold?
Would love insight and enlightenment on that Leslie mic configuration @:25

Brother what
@@benjaminhixson3918This is the funniest comment I've ever seen on a sound video.
"Nobody leaves humming the kick drum"
How does it get any better than being a drummer in a band being mixed by a drummer?
Too many screens on FOH for Robert Scovill. How is put on the stage, , racks, desk and screens at the same time?
Always get a takeaway from Robert. Time to see if gated overheads work in my environment.
When’s David loy?
Soon!!
Epic fail at Fedex on 5/25/2024. ZBB sounded great. KC vocals were very low - speakers were beyond distortion.
all that knowledge, experience and technology and when you hear a band in a hockey rink it sounds dreadful 😂

HAAAAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Quick! Tell another one!!!
Except for the fact that he has mixed in both environment, rather successfully for many decades with many artists loving his work
