    Well presented video and great explanations. A little addition of high temperature silicone paste / RTV gasket on the joins between metal casted parts (head and timing cover) would be adviseable as they are weak points for rubber gaskets to seal properly. You can clearly see a small gap / groove above the oil pressure sensor on the left front of the engine which a small 2mm bead of sealant would help reinforce the cover seal properly. Ironically the gap is where the timing chain cover gasket is meant to fit flush (replaced loads of chains on Vauxhall / Opel so there should not be a gap / groove between these metal parts usually if a good quality timing cover gasket is used) but on older cars the rubber wears away a little just there.

      Fitted mine earlier today...the 2010 Astra J is very similar to this video. Take care when refitting the rocker cover as the gasket can move/come out of the groove so ensure it doesn’t get bent or trapped. I torqued to 7ft lbs which is just over 8nm. Thanks to poster for the video.

      After 9 months my POS car is now needing a PCV valve which as I've discovered is fitted to the underside of the rocker cover on my Astra J 2016 1.6l petrol VVT. Vauxhall quoted me over £300 for a complete new rocker cover as they claim it is not a serviceable item. I've decided to replace with a used rocker cover from ebay to hopefully get me through the remaining few weeks before my new car arrives. What a pain in the a$$ this car is.

    Hi there,
    Can anyone help..
    Had an oil leak at top of engine on my astra h 1.7 cdti.
    I had the Rocker cover gasket and 8 seals around cam cover replaced along with breather pipe from my local garage.
    When the engine was run there appeared to be a diesel leak from around the first and third injector, the cam cover was taken off again and checked before being put back on. Diesel was still leaking from top of engine so sealant was used around 1st and 3rd injector but then the 4th injector started leaking, the mechanic has recommended that I replace the injectors as he cannot find the problem, does anyone know what the problem could be ?
    Thanks in advance.

      Princess&King Robertson hi, give the car to the mechanic, let them evaluate the repair and you'll make decisions what's the next step.

  • @foxman105
    @foxman105 4 года назад

    You should really do those screws in order and torque specs of the manufacturer. Otherwise you're asking for a badly seated gasket or a snapped bolt.

    • @FixYOURride13

      Hi, yes it will be correct, but after time nothing leaking, and it is not a Space Shuttle.

      @@FixYOURride13 Still, modern engines operate under high oil pressure and temperature. I know that GM Ecotec engines are quite fiddly and not the most robust designs so I feel like it's a good idea to follow manufacturer spec. I don't care that much about every single screw on a car but Engine and suspension should be up to spec. There are datasheets on the net for this engine. Not that hard to find.

      @@thabetrami9550 It is not oil and cooling water but emulsification between oil vapour and condensation due normally to the engine not reaching full operating temperature e.g. multiple short journeys or colder climates (happens more in winter in the UK). The crankcase ventilation then migrates the cream into the intake where it will enter the cylinders and will burn off. It mimics a head gasket failure but is not usually (normal checks for HG failure should still be made if unsure) and this cream is extremely common on Vauxhall / Opel engines of this era.
