My partner and I stayed in their guest house last year and we had the best time! John and Linda are lovely people and their home is incredible... we especially loved their pool. They did the tango for us and I read their tarot cards. It was a memorable trip. Their story is so inspiring and we feel lucky to have met them.

This is such a fantasy-fairyland-dream-house. I'm absolutely in love. From the house, the porches, the garden, the greenhouse, the pool, the meandering stairs and terraces, the view. Absolutely everything. Amazing job from the owners

I loved the relaxed and nonchalant manner in which the host spoke about each part of their house. He was very humble, yet honest about how much hard work the building was, especially because he had a 12 hour a day job at a factory. The home is beautiful inside and out. The decorating is timeless and warm and inviting. I would feel very comfortable and at home as a guest there! I’m glad I watched this video. It was also a good reminder of the all too quick passage of time, and how many different uses some of the rooms had served over the years. And now, it’s a quiet home awaiting the family to come back for visits!

So nice to see a couple in love for 50 years and build a family home and enjoy it with their kids and now grandkids. My husband built our family home and after several years of his passing i had to sell it. But so many wonderful memories raising our kids and grandkids. Here on Vancouver Island. A beautiful blessing to be here.
Almost every ingenious and self built house Ive seen on the internet is from Canada. Seems like there really is such a great spirit of ingenuity and expression there.

This is absolutely the best home I have ever seen in my life. It's the right amounts of comfort and atmosphere. Their hard work definitely shows, and I hope they are living a wonderfully peaceful life in their gorgeous space.

Congratulations to the wonderful couple. Tragically, rules and overregulation are stifling home builders. Rebellion against this degree of control is required as the homeless rate explodes.
Yeah, excessive regulation is one of the main reasons why there's such a large homeless population. Most cities, especially those like San Francisco, San Jose, NYC, Vancouver, Seattle, etc don't allow as many dwelling units to be built as are needed, thus pushing rents and mortgages to $2000+ per month for small studio and one bedroom apartments!

goals, even tho many of us have dreams and desires pre-planed in our minds, there's always a part that wishes to run away with someone special far away and redefine what life is all about.
For me, and I have now watched a number (not huge) of these 'home videos', including my favorite subject, 'tiny homes'... this is absolutely gorgeous. I don't know how anything could be better. This place fits in the environment, and more importantly it grew with the family over the years. This is such a beautiful residence, it even makes the outdoors more beautiful. Because it fits that well. Thanks FLORB.

This house looks so magical that I could easily imagine it in a fantasy movie. But at the same time it still has something down-to-earth, maybe because of all the wood and the very homely decoration? I really like it, everything is so well put together, the inside looks very lovely and classic, the colours fit so well together.
I only can imagine how awesome it must be for kids to live there! I bet their friends were all jealous

Very nice - and FYI: 1980 $1 US = $3.51 in buying power, so though that may not be accurate in all ways, this house is maybe $80,000 or less in materials today. Except that lumber today is much more highly priced than many other things and that is still a hand-built thing, taking quite a long time and a lot of work.

What a Beautiful Home. This is what a home built with love looks like. This home has to be priceless. All the work, all the time it took and all paid for a perfect retirement. Built it as then went along. Even through he kept a log of what it cost, where the building stuff came from and kept the dates of when they put it up. Truly priceless. Beautiful Beautiful home wonderful work.

What is amazing about this house, is it is so individual and unique, but fits perfectly into the landscape.
This is the most beautifull house I've seen in my life
There were several built in the Bay Area back in the 1970's and 80's, as it happened I had the opportunity to talk with someone who had resided in one and he/she mentioned that with each panel having, that with six sides for hexagonal panels or eight for hexagonal panels; so many seams in each panel that must be sealed well, otherwise talk about a leaky roof senario. And just try and locate where from, which panel is compromised?
I think there's at least one left in the SF Bay Area.
I am speechless, I don't think I could come up with words good enough to describe the ah sheer beauty of this magical Dome house nestled in those lovely trees. Never have I seen anything so amazingly built. I'm utterly in awe at every inch of your kingdom, and that's how it feels to me, I have never seen anything like it and prolly never will again. Wow, just wow. With great admiration thank you for sharing your life with us.

Somebody asked about square footage; about 3500 total floor space, the dome itself is 850 on the main floor.

And it's quite a bargain getting a 3500sqft\348sqm house with the basic mod cons for just $18,000. That's an unheard of $5.14 per square foot \ $50 per square meter!

I spent some time in a similar dome in southern Manitoba back in the 80's. A couple had broken up and left this building used only as an occasional cottage. very cool experience. Especially at -30 !

Adore it. It's wonderful. When married to my ex-husband for 18 yrs tried to convince him to do this. He expressed interest, but there was no will to do it. Could not do it solo... have to say, love the angles and unique designs and architecture involved in creating your beautiful home. Also a Brit, when living in Canada I drove everywhere looking at unique homes. The Geodesic have been my favorite. So love everything you have created... nice to see you are Brits also. You worked so hard, and your creation shows the effort. It is beautiful. TY for sharing.

Excellent forethought and craftsmanship. Did something similar in the U.S. Built as and when we could, repurposing materials whenever possible while borrowing as little as possible.
It was a lifelong project and agree it keeps you young and wouldn't trade it for the world.
My children learned many construction trades along the way as well.
Thank you for posting this. A number of people thought we were crazy, years later we continuously have people asking if we'd consider selling our home.
