They moved the marathon schedule to February to accommodate F1. I participated that first February but never again. Even though it is the desert, it’s still winter! I feel it would ruin my experience. I’m sure other vacationers feel the same way.
    I have a crazy idea! How about hosting the F1 around the Las Vegas Motor Speedway area?
    The sh!t show will now be out of everybody’s way. Tourist can enjoy the strip with no inconvenience. F1 has a loyal fan base, the tickets would still sell out and it remains in Las Vegas.

    • @crosslink1493
      @crosslink1493 Месяц назад +4

      True, put a few $$$ into building a permenant road course portion that incorporates the oval at the Speedway rather than year-after-year expense of building a temp track in the fall (if they still have all that open area around the Speedway). All the fans, drivers, staff can attend F1 functions at the hotels/resorts along the Strip during the preceding week, then the focus goes to the north end of the Las Vegas area on race day. I've soured on Las Vegas, its just gotten too expensive for the average person to make a long weekend out of it, I've got other places and sights I'd rather spend my money on these days.

    I was in Vegas last weekend (9/20-23) and the impact of F1 construction was already crazy. I was staying on the 9th floor of the Horseshoe and there was construction activity going on all night long on the street outside my hotel room which kept me up for the better part of the night. The construction has already been annoying af for the past 3 weeks. It's been mostly at night leaving work that's been bothersome. As an agent at a non-gaming casino, we didn't see much benefit for the workeds. I'm always happy to give a view to a guest and try my best to do so when it's available. Our hotel overlooks the end of the race. Last year, I had a photo of the track, showing where our hotel sits as well as the layout of our hotel to show guest what view they would get and let them choose. The tips were nothing more, if not less than, what I get regularly. Every room is pre blocked for the race.The amount of extra work and time discussing with the guest, unblocking, and swapping a room was not worth it. This year, I'll do that for a sandwich tip. Otherwise, guests will get what they are pre blocked for.

    To make the argument of the "capacity" on the pedestrian bridges, its not wither or not its able to support the weight of all the people on it, its more of, how many people are on it itself. Don't get me wrong, I think the ban on it is completely stupid, but I can imagine them having people jammed packed on those bridges might having someone trip and get trampled, something like what happened at Astro world a while back. But then again, if you're on the middle of the bridge...you''re not seeing much of the race, so it's kinda pointless.

    F1 has made Vegas their beotch. Come into town mess with everybody, collect their bag and take off till next year. Would you go to a NFL game if all you could see was a 10 yard segmen. F1 you don't see entire race, you see a section and watch cars go by for 10 seconds then nothing. What's the point. In both examples you would have to see entire race or NFL on a big screen. The seats are all crappy at F1. NFL you can see entire game from your seat.

      I've been to a few F1 events in places like Melbourne, Monaco and Singapore. Vegas just seems like it is the wrong place to hold a race for much the reasons you mention. I doubt F1 would do a 10yr deal but if that was really a possibility, Vegas would be much better off building a dedicated motor sports park. Then it wouldn't be as dependent on the F1 circus coming to town, could attract more events and motorsports fans would get a much better experience. I've heard friends who are involved in sponsorship and hospitality for F1 and they weren't very impressed by the event and neither apparently were many of the drivers.

    Never been to Vegas but I've read that because of the dry climate oil and lubricants on the road from traffic just stays there for months until it rains when it turns into a slick oily sludge that's hard to wash away. Honestly, if that's true and I lived in Vegas I'd take a water hose to the track just before the race would start and turn the roads into a slip'n'slide, as payback.

    The Golden Gate Bridge was built to have the weight of vehicles pass over. The few times that it was closed to traffic and people were allowed to walk on the bridge, the bridge flattened under the static weight of people standing on the bridge. Your walkways may not handle the static weight of people standing on it if it was packed. Just a thought.

  • @rogerpenske2411
    @rogerpenske2411 Месяц назад

    The Grand Prix should be in a parking lot. The old Grand Prix was in the parking lot of Caesars Palace. I don’t know if that’s possible anymore. But the Grand Prix could easily be in one of the industrial areas up by Nellis Air Force Base and the Las Vegas speedway. Bobbing and weaving through some empty parking areas in some of the not yet leased out buildings, would leave plenty of space for grandstand, pit Lane, and a good time for all. The layout isn’t all that long for Formula One, so be easily doable. The parking lot for Las Vegas Speedway is huge enough to probably handle 1/3 to 1/2 of the total length of the course.

Hopefully, Clark County/Las Vegas officials will get out of the F1 races as soon as possible. And any way the locals/visitors can petition to remove the race from LV? If so, I'm sure we could get millions to sign it.

Mexico has money, it's just not spread out as much as in US. I was told by a couple luxury stores in Caesars Forum one year that Mexican Independence weekend in Vegas is the second highest selling weekend each year, only behind Chinese New Year...that says a lot. Jacob, glad you know that and not ignorant to stuff like that. Also Europeans aren't used to tipping, which probably doesn't help in most of Europe, tipping is not expected as workers make a "normal" wage and like in US that most service jobs make their moeny on tips not wages

We were at the Cosmo and you couldn’t walk in front of Bellagio which made everything a pain in ass. So we were about to book a trip again and see they’re doing it again. We thought it was just once and now it sucks because Vegas starts getting cooler in Temp after midway of October and I’m from Florida so we like it hot not cold. 75 is cold to us.

Locals said been going on for several months then continue for another few months to deconstruct. I think all this trouble for months for just one weekend will resonate with tourists by bad word of mouth in next few years. Will avoid Vegas totally in the late summer to fall months.
