OMG I bet it was. Elvis and Huey are quite the showmen! Also funny, where did you see them? I loved living in the bay, best music variety in the world with tons of great venues. He played in Campbell CA some 38 yrs ago in a smallish bar... The bodega-memories!
I was on that tour. Calling it "opening" wasn't really the right word. It was a lot more like a double bill. And it was great. Instead of a lame opening act, two acts of equal stature with an overlapping fan base.
Happy to see that he was able to reconcile himself to a song which he detested for so long, probably because he hated himself for trying to write a hit, and he did.
I was in my early 20's when this song came out and I enjoyed watching the music video for it. The guy in the video really did look like Prince Charles. I even bought the cassette. 💕
I seen this dude on Saturday night live. I thought it was a joke they were playing. To make a long story short i ran up to peaches to see if he was real. Well to my surprise there was album. So all you 70s kids no what I'm talking about. He's alive and for real
The other day this guy was laughing at me as I was munching on some Italian takeout underneath some stairs. I said to him "What's so funny about eating some pizza I love underneath a landing?"
@@dougspidermanhappy It is a worst case scenario for an introverted male playing out there. He is thinking throughout 'How the fuck did this happen and how can I make it stop.' The man deserves a medal.
I've seen him three times. Not since Lennon have I heard such wordplay. Anyway, I kinda' like him. For his 3rd encore in Portlandia, he did "Almost Blue". -I thought I was gonna die.
A great song that I wish he'd redone on a later album; as Elvis himself admits, the production on the record was a mistake. This slays the original recording.
I really like how he dropped his voice an octave since he started. In the early 80s he was trying to sing too high. I like this version a lot better. He's gone from a guy I couldn't stand to one of my favorite acts live. He's awesome.
Hi, Mark~~ So, here's the thing.... When he sings the verses, choruses and bridges, he is *not* an octave lower than in the original studio version. He is singing in the same range as before. What he did drop, (not an octave but) completely, was that octave-*higher* opening "oooh" vocal, where he imitated a soul/R&B singer's mode, and it came off a bit forced.... It's just normal, natural and expected that vocal chords relax, loosen and gain a sonority with age that they didn't have when you're early-20's and are "tense, nervous, and can't relax."
Do-o-ont tell me you don't know the dif-re-e-e-ence... Between a masterpiece by a genius so-ong-writ-e-e-e-er... and a copy by a serious a-ad-mir-e-e-e-er.... Cause even in a perfect world... where all versions are equal.... I'd still love the original... no matter what the people sa-a-aid! ... I'm giving you a l-o-o-ng look... There's no way (There's no way) ... There's no way (There's no way) ... There's no wa-ay (There's no way)... There's no way this is as go-oo-ood!
Ahh, ya had me going there for a second, because I've actually never heard of Mr. Clarkson. But apparently he looks an awful lot like Pete Thomas! And Pete Thomas also has a lot of the same movements of Gilson Lavis! I had to look it up just to make sure it wasn't Gil...
One day I hope to be as happy as Sandra Oh is here.
It is Sandra Oh? I wondered if it was, thank you for clearing that up.
I like this tune.... reminds me of Everyday I Write The Book, by Elvis Costello.
duh?
Haha I can see you got my joke...
lol
yep
Well I'm glad you agree with me. I thought I had become insane.
needed that today 😁
Sandra Oh. Nice dance moves.
I love that Sandra Oh was totally rockin' out in the corner!
Love this song with Allison being 1 and2
Love Costello!! And Sandra Oh dancing on stage is so cute!
From the soundtrack of my high school years! Who else is still here in 2023❤️
Phenomenal. One of my favorite songs ever. Thank you!
It won't let me click 100 times..sorry! One of my favorites of all time!
It's been 40 years since Punch the Clock! That album just keeps getting better ❤
People take pleasure on crapping on that album. They are wrong. The thing is a masterpiece.
I'm sure its a case of sour grapes. It is a masterpiece! @@pauljohnson8847
Elvis ushered in the new direction in popular music with his first two albums.
The girl dancing onstage gives me so much joy.

I just fell in love with Sandra Oh while watching this!
She’s a fine actress AND a good dancer ❤️
Saw the Original Spinning Songbook in SF and Huey Lewis came out in the second half to Emcee. What a night... Elvis is King.

This guy is so awesome. He was opening for the police and he put on a better show than they did. :)
I caught him last year opening for Steely Dan, best concert I have ever been to, was just nothing but super talent
He shouldn't be opening for anyone.
So agree!
Always - bursting with creative musicianship and verve.

True greatness! Everything.
Wow better sounding than ever. I got to see him the year before covid- plaing w the Attractions- I WAS as happy as Sandra Oh
God! I wish he'd come down to Australia and do this show. I'd buy a ticket in a heartbeat. Here's hoping...💜
He's playing Sydney & Melbourne in March 2024
I love elvis costello!
Another favorite
Gorgeous poetry in music. I appreciate this now SO VERY MUCH. 💛
Happy to see that he was able to reconcile himself to a song which he detested for so long, probably because he hated himself for trying to write a hit, and he did.
He hated the way they recorded the song hastily as a last track on an Album. He loves it in a slowed down acoustic version.
Always so spectacular in concert!
Vocopher Practice , absolutely, I saw him two months ago in Glasgow, fantastic show , a musical genius as far as I’m concerned 🎸
Gosh I love this song. The lyrics, the tune, everything Elvis!🤩
What's so great is you can see how well these guys know each other and play off each others improv.
I Love This Song I Have 3 - 45 RPM'S Of It.

I feel so sorry for that good, good dude, who has to keep dancing.
Yes! He came to enjoy a show, and awkwardly dance in the dark with a crowd around him.... it’s like a nightmare that he’s on stage, no less on RUclips

The studio version destroys this lounge act
is the melody all that different? sounds good to me.
Well !
EVE POLASTRI!!

where's the iconic bass sound for this song? :/
probably at home with the iconic bass player. This session bloke is ok but he aint got 'it'.
Incredible. Classic. Different. Not an improvement.

Prefer the record, this just sounds tired.
I like the song, but not this arrangement.

Funny...Elvis is a nerd but you call him a schmuk. How but another Nobel for a songwriter?
