      I agree. The degree of consumption of new products could easily be tempered with vintage and reused items to great effect . . . . and this would be great modeling for all of Alexandra's followers!

      It's sustainable for the person who gets it for free from the company - not for anyone else. All of my furniture is from the 1930's - passed down through the generations - and it's all very beautiful, and obviously, very well made. It also makes me happy to have the familial connection.

    As a Southern Lady, let me tell you gardenias not only have the most exquisite white blooms but the have a heavenly scent, like jasmine. Be careful not to touch the blooms or they will bruise and turn yellow/brown. Enjoy your patio.

    Have you considered some sort of umbrella? As much as I enjoy being out on the deck, I have a big umbrella to protect me from direct sunlight. Anyhoo, the deck looks fantastic!

    Commenting from "warmer climate" Australia here - yep, we have to clean our patios, too, probably more often than you guys 😅. And sometimes we can't enjoy our patios for long because of mosquitos OR extreme heat

    I love your patio renovation for the summer. But as a landscaper, I have to tell you that in orden for the Gardenia to be healthy all summer long you need to repot it from the nursery container into a larger pot. With more compost and proper care, you will have many lovley smelling flowers.

    Honestly, I don't even know how you got anything done with that adorable little kitten present! Patio turned out great, makes me want to give mine a refresh. Also, I've heard that spraying your outdoor furniture with scotchguard can also help protect against the elements.

    Man! So glad I live in Southern California where you can leave everything out on your patio. We have a covered patio so when it does rain, not often, everything stays dry. 😋

    The Gardenia will need at least six hours of direct sun every day to bloom. It will also need some specific plant food for gardenias. Thet are tricky.

      I love what she did but it definitely needs some bright flowers . And I wish they had shown the patio lights when it was dark . You could barely see them at twilight .

    haven't watched the whole thing yet, but...i've had those chairs outside (pink ones). drill one or two holes in the low point of the seat so they drain! you will appreciate this in the fall.

      😅 I have a deep balcony tray. I put everything I want outside in it & put it on my table. Sometimes we get sudden rain showers and you have to race back in with phone, snacks,drinks, book. Saves trying to scoop everything up in a hurry.

    I would like to share that gardenia is rather special plant that likes attention ( like a pet), doesn't like to change place once it finds its spot, and when it flowers it smells heavenly.

    Gardenias are a common garden flowering tree/shrub here in Australia and the white flowers have a stunningly beautiful fragrance! You're going to love them!

    UGH- warm climates are not fun. Today it was 102 and felt like 112. We have to pressure wash every year to clean up the mildew that grows all winter. We have a few days in the fall and the spring that are nice, but Houston is not heat-friendly! Love your new patio look and all of your designs!

    From someone in central TX where it has been over 100 Fahrenheit for the past week - we still have to clean our patios, and I'm so envious of a place where you mention possibly needing a sweater in freaking June 😂 because here, when taking my dog for a walk, the thought does cross my mind if I'll even make it back to my apartment alive or if I will become a charred spot on the sidewalk 😅

    In warmer climates we have sever thunderstorms all spring and summer long and have to bring in all the nice stuff multiple times a week so it doesn't get destroyed. I wish I could just cover it in the winter. 🤪

    Ηello there! This is Christine from Athens/Greece. I wouldn't change the view with all this greenery you have from your patio (is it a park?) for a warmer climate. It would be boring, believe me! Here in the suburbs of Athens we are frosted during the winter and burned out during the summer, but the local area is full of trees and I feel such a pleasure every time a get a look out of my window. Lovely to see you refreshing your patio. Well done, as always!

    Year round hot weather has its own challenges. I live in Florida and its tough keeping the pool area clean and weed free. Not complaining though. I hate snow

    Gardenias are also acid plants so make sure to use that kind of fertilizer. Hard to find in liquid format but get potting mix that says for acid plants. The store may have told you but if you later have issues with it could be that.

    so cute! i wosh i had an outdoor space. i would drill a tiny hole or two in the bottom of those plastic chairs where any water might collect so they stay dry in the rain!

    I can understand new decor pieces makes you feel refreshed. Just a suggestion though, a good wash with a pressure washer could have easily revamp the rug as good as new. Would love to see you promote reuse/recycle since so many people look upto you for design inspo.

    Omg, bring that gardenia in with a grow light for the winter. It smells gorgeous! But it is tropical and will not live in cold, but will need the grow light to thrive inside.

    I'm just doing my own balcony makeover and i love having this inspiration. I think my biggest change is going to be sewing new cushion covers for the balcony couch. I have veeeery limited space cause I covered as much as I could with plants and raised vegetable beds.

    Hi AGT! I live in Pensacola Florida. And yes we have to clean our outside spaces too. Unfortunately sometimes twice a year. Our cleaning consist of full on pressure washing due to the humidity & rain. Love your show and if I ever winn the lottery your on my bucket list!!! Keep the shows coming. Jere Mixson

    I love the separate seating areas, particularly as a guest. Rehoming the bbq was a good idea since you had only used it once. A great way to increase the living space of a home!

      Yes a pink gingham dress was a bit much. You clean better with cheap dirty clothes you can throw out or turn into rags.
