Here's a theory: Leon understands Spanish. Aside from that skill helping him in this part of Europe, all the documents he reads written by the Chief, Salazar and Saddler are written in Spanish and obviously not meant for foreigners. By hiding his skill, Leon lets the villains reveal their plans by thinking he can't read their documents.

Something that I never noticed is that the further you progress in the game, the more the ganados are dominated by "las plagas". Like in the island their voices are all distorted, they don't SOUND human, and in the castle the zealots don't seem to be able to think for themselves, like one of their voice lines is just repeating "brains" even though that's not what they want, and the fact that most of their lines are just repetitions of words. As in the village they seem to live their normal lives, just are excessively aggressive towards outsiders/non infected people. A very creepy detail that I hadn't noticed before 👀

The "A por él" more accurate translation could be "Go get him" or "Get him", they're speaking on a "in search of" therm. So they referring to Leon. Also the "Que madre" could be roughly translated to "What a pickle" because he's referring to a bothersome situation (Although the expression "mother" for that type of context is more used in Latin America if I'm not mistaken). One of my favorite things about this game that makes it stand out from the others in the series is that las plagas doesn't seem to zombifie villagers as much as it just corrupts them. When you're hidden, people just go about their days, interact with each other, etc, and when they see you they speak to you, coherrently; it's clear they are totally sentient and still have their lives, just... warped, awful versions.
I feel like that makes this game stand out in not only being scarier than just a zombie situation, but it also creates an odd sense of melancholy and loneliness wherever you go. You can see the remnants of normal life, and when you kill baddies you're constantly reminded they used to be and in some sense still are just regular people with nice lives. Unlike most games in RE which make it clear you're fighting what USED to be people, 4 has always maintained a sense that you still are fighting people, and that's terrifying and depressing.
Love the remake's enhancements and how Leon now speaks some spanish. It adds some realistic respect on his end and further humanizes the village. Adds to both that sadness and the terror of being in a place where everyone knowingly wants you dead.

There is an interesting story behind this Resident Evil 4 Spanish.
In fact, the Spanish of these Ganado sounds partly Japanese.
For example, "¡Lo encontré!" at 9:09 sounds like "Meitantei" in Japanese.
(This "Meitantei" means "a great detective.")
Even now, 18 years after the game's release, this mishearing is still popular among Japanese gamers.
As a Japanese gamer, I'm looking forward to seeing this mishearing in the new remake of Resident Evil re4.
Sorry for my terrible English, but I hope you know how Japanese people enjoy it.

This may be small and/or accidental but I like how this is subbed. The Spanish and English are displayed in different colors, if something has a direct translation (ok, Lord Saddler, etc.) It's just put on screen once. Everyone who speaks fluent English has the in game captions. I dunno why but I like that style.

@1:10 I will never forget this line! My first playthrough I was really not adapting well to the controls and it made me even more scared of the Ganados. Cautiously fumbling my way down that trail and hearing that while not seeing where they were gave me the sort of scare where you instinctively pause/menu out of fright X-) The perfect combination of barely knowing how to control Leon and not knowing what these people are angrily yelling at you. Genius game ❤️

This was an interesting video. I have seen a couple of the voice lines translated, in text format only, so seeing it like this with the actual character saying it with Spanish subtitles is awesome. I don't speak Spanish so I found some of the similar words to be interesting as well like "escape" vs. "escapen".
Also this game looks amazing in HD, holy cow. It makes me think back to playing this on my PS2 on a CRT. It's like looking at an oil painting vs real life.

It's an awesome game ^^ Those words, escape and escapen, mean the same, but a N is used at the end to describe the amount.
