GenRation KANGA 8’9 x 30 7/8 at 131 liters
I finally got a smaller Kanga! I am super stoked about this board, since I love my huge 9’6 x 33.5 so much.
Another nice clip Rick, I just turned 60 you are an inspiration to all of us older surfers. Thanks mate 👍
Old? You're just a KID! 🤗
Thanks Chris, I get up everyday and expect to surf better today than yesterday.... it keeps me from accepting less and backing off
We'll see how that goes 😊
@@rickweeks That’s a great attitude Rick good on you buddy 😊
Hi from Deb australia queensland. Loving the videos. .
Thanks Deb!
I hope life is great in Q-Land!!
Oh yes.. I know that feeling of total exaustion as well Rick.. where I just start falling for no reason... well, lack of food anyway. Amazing the amount of energy restored after breaky.. as long as we don't sit down and veg out for to long.. 😅 Enjoy
yup.... when I start falling for no reason, it's time to go in!!
love the ending!! To me just seems like my standard exit!! lol
ha ha... yup, with bad knees, I can't take the unstable sand/rocks as the water ggoes from deep to shallow, so I get knocked down a lot as I exit.
😂
Kkkkk....very nice end
Hi Luciano, thanks for watching!
ha ha... I did a better exit today.... totally annihilated in steep shorebreak! Yup, it's on film, so it will be in a video soon 🤣
Where is this?
Hi DDad
All filmed on Cape Cod, Massachusetts
You obviously, LOVE THE CAPE...me too!
Absolutely!
What’s not to love Zoe… we live in paradise 🤗
Looking good Rick
Your lost a lot of weight
Your only a Shark Biscuit now instead of the main course
Love that board
Thanks for sharing
Thanks Gary... nice of you to notice!!! Life is better as a biscuit.
It's always a battle, but one I have to win as I get older..... carrying less weight is easier on old joints.
I t is a pretty sweet board!
one of a few new boards that should be a LOT of fun.
I am putting a deck pad on one as I write this reply!
More vids to come on my new boards!
Nice rick..out of curiosity how do you compare it in term of stability withbthe speed 8.10 @ 130 L that you tried in summer?
Hi AP
Thanks buddy!
Hummmm, Great question, because the Speeed is a board a lot of people are familiar with.
it's been a LONG time since I was on an 8'10 Speeed.
I am guessing that the Kanga is similar???? Not sure. More width, but the Speeed nose is wide, so may be a toss up???
My buddy has one, so I'll try to borrow it and do a video.
Thanks for this.... it will be an apt comparison!
Those Kangas are such beautiful boards. They can handle any conditions. I've been out in knee high to almost double overhead in mine. So many great adventures. I'm just sad that I never manged to hit San Juanico when it was pumping.
I see you are now listing yourself as 215. Amazing how fit one gets when paddling, isn't it?
Hi Mr D, true dat, it's such a good board!!
Dropping weight is my lifelong battle, but after 70 it becomes more important for knees, back etc, so I will keep dropping!
When I transitioned from regular surfing to SUP surfing, I weighed 305 lbs.
My rotator cuffs both went on the same wave... so the pop-up became a crawl up.
I tried SUP, just for the little days.... ha ha... I never wanted to surf on a traditional board again!
SUP is so awesome for the entire body and mind!
Picked up a SoloShot. Haven't used it yet though. I need to get it figured out so I can start filming from the cliffs.
Hi Disco! I can help with sea level set-up.
It took me 3 years to find the right combo for success.
Now it is a quick setup and it ALWAYS follows perfectly
Not sure how it would translate to tracking properly when dealing with big drops in altitude.
I have never used any setting but "water" which pretty much follows right to left, not so much up and down.
Maybe a good experiment, as I have some pretty good clay cliffs I could film from.

Let's find out how this gets done!
That boards got a nice shape, im guessing if there was a little more juice in those waves you could really light it up . What's your preference these days. A bit more length and a little narrower or short with extra width for stabilit? At 97kg you're not far off my fighting weight at the moment, had to dust of the rubber suit this morning 🥶😁
Hi Kingsley,
Yeah, the Kanga is such a good board at every size I reckon.
My 9'6 is awesome for sure.
The 8'9 would definitely show more goods with a little more juice... that wave was pretty soft on the shoulders.
I felt the potential, but at my current weight, it seems like it will be a "good swell" board choice, since I have others that excel in average surf.
My preference depends on the waves.
I pretty much believe that going shorter and shorter will be self defeating at some point.
But a LOT depends on shape
My 8'3 Shroom would be awesome in the waves in this video.... for my current weight, the 8'9 Kanga would have shined brighter with another foot of swell.
My next stoke is my new 8'8 SP25.... it probably would have been a better choice on this swell, but I didn't have a pad on it yet.
Last night I fixed that, and the 8'8 is now ready for tomorrows swell!
Maybe I'll ride them both to compare.... but doubtful, as a LONG walk is required for my camera gear at this spot.
Hi there it’s Deb here from the Sunshine Coast Queensland Australia good to see some more videos I really enjoy watching them and I’ve picked up some tips on how to ride so yep feeling very very blessed. We are currently in our beginning of winter season which means crisp cool mornings clean glassy waves and girlfriends and I we just had the best time because it’s too cold for the blokes to come out which suits us perfectly so keep on making these videos cause you’re very inspirational love seeing them cheers
Thanks for the kind words Deb, I am glad if the vids help you out!
ha ha, the boys sleep and you girls get all the waves.... I love it!
I'd be right there with you... I love dawn patrol 🤗🌅
Enjoy. Welcome back Summer of rick
Thanks Mark!
We have to get together this summer!
I've got plenty of boards 🤗
Great stuff Rick! Looks like it was a fun day out in the water!
Much appreciated Dave!
It is a joy to be home in the land of good sandbars!
Very good dismount Rick!😄
Thanks Mario, I am glad I got that exit on film... my daughter is going to love seeing Dad get rolled 😂
So, how do you like that short Kanga?
Hi Craig, it's really nice in the smaller size.
A bit of work, but after one session I was much more tuned in to the stability factor.
I need to run it in some more juice or size to get a good test, but it is aa very solid board.
Hahaha the end 🤣 looks like it was a great session 👍
Thanks Neil, it was fun!
And you get the bonus for sticking with it to the end! 🥳
Love the ending. haha Been there, done that.
Hi Beachy
Thanks for commenting!
Yup, too many times, for sure.... keeps us humble!
clean little waves! nice!
Thanks Donna, I am very stoked to be home... I love the waves here.
good one Rick
Hi Matt, thanks buddy!
Good to surf with you again!
I’ve just watched this latest video that I received and I saw the seals that you have. We don’t have seals at any of my local points here on the Sunshine Coast but we do have dolphins and we do have sharks but I had the joy and blessings of surfing with two dolphins Sunday morning just gone and it was just spectacular we also are in our whale season so we had a couple of whales very close in over the last weekend as well was really beautiful
Ocean life is amazing from Stand Up.... it gives us such a great perch to watch the underwater world!
I have actually gained an affection for the Great Whites that hunt the seals in our break..... they keep the crowds away, and that's no small thing in this post-CoVid world.
@@rickweeks agree. The seal heads were so cute. I had a smallish shark under my board this morning while i was on a wave. Just a reef shark. Summer is our busy shark time. We get tiger sharks and bull sharks. Bulls are vicious and big and ugly. .
@@deborahburgin8762 yeah... I'll keep the Great Whites if it keeps the Bulls away, they are nasty beasts!
