  • Experts estimate there are less than 100 Barbary lion cubs at zoos around the world. So it is welcome news that a mother lion just gave birth to two new ones at Safari Park Dvur Kralove in Czech Republic. They have been weighed, chipped and dewormed, according to local zoologists, appearing to be in good health and as cute as can be. All the brother and sister have to spend their days worrying about now, is getting familiar with their new surroundings. Inside Edition Digital’s Stephanie Officer explains. #InsideEdition

This is why we need this types of zoos. The ones that have rehabilitation programs and proper care and facilities. They do help animals and some can actually revive their numbers. People need to stop protesting and trying to shutdown zoos like this. Yes animals do need to be in their natural habitat but most of the time they can't because we already destroyed their homes. And poaching is still rampant. They need a safe haven.

Korea is doing some really crazy cloning stuff to help species going extinct and even try to bring back extinct species if they can get the right amount of DNA to do so. They've already got basic animals down like dogs. It's sad that this is what its come to because there's no real animal or ocean protection.

This was also the 'type' subspecies first documented by scientists, and often the one people think of when they imagine a lion due to early zoos housing so many of them.

0:55 when she said last one spoted in the wild was shot in Morocco in 1942 I'd like to believe she meant as in "his picture" was taken and not as "in killed". There's a famous black and white photo of what's believed to be the last wild Barbary lion roaming the Atlas mountains, the picture was shot in the 40's. During that period tribes would capture lions and offer them to the sultan as a sign of respect and loyalty. King M6 gave all those to the zoo of Rabat and they have been breeding since to insure the continuity of this magistic race. Two cubs were born in 2018..Morocco gave a couple I think to London zoo as well. I still think animals belong to the wild but in the case of Rabat zoo, I think they're doing an amazing job persevering those creatures

Panthera Leo Leo , aka Barbary lion or atlas lion , the largest lion subspecies
They went extinct in the wild mostly because of french colonialists in North Africa hunting them to extinction.

These guys don't belong in zoos, i don't go to zoos. I remember going as a kid and feeling sad for leopard i seen n it was pacing back n forth n u could jus tell it wasn't feeling right, like it was scared or anxious or something, i noticed that as a kid so as i got older my disgust for zoos and animal parks like Sea world has only increased.
