    Nice vision, lovely photographs. Must have been exciting watching those negatives coming out of the tanks. Great film that Delta 400.

      Thank you! I never get tired of seeing my negatives come out of the development tank, seeing them for the first time Is like Christmas Lol and I have to agree, that Delta 400 is a great film.

    Hard to pick a favorite image, many beautiful shots. The opening image and the tree "monsters" are probably my favorites, but the close-ups we excellent as well. Great film, great eye. Cheers!

      Thanks Robert! I should be done with the testing for awhile, Lol, with a couple film bodies and a couple speeds of film, I should be able to photograph what ever I come across, well that’s the plan anyway 😂

    This "little outing" must have been a nice experience. Your shots deliver a kind of timelessness. Congrats.
    As far as Delta 400 means - its undoubtedly a great film especially in 6x6 format. My hands are not so steady so the 1/200 shortest exposure time on my Zeiss Ikon Nettar can still let me use fairly small aperures to get excellent sharpness and decent depth of field. As for the grains, my thoughts are quite close to your opinion.
    This is the only film where I can visually differentiate the outstanding sharpness delivered by both Zeiss Novar (6x6) and Tessar (6x4.5).Thank you.

    Another excellent video David!! Great explanation on why you still shooting film, very inspiring. And the pictures came out great, great tonalities and contrast; impress with Delta 400. Glad that you got your hands on a Nikon F5, the best Nikon camera for the money.

    • @DavidPattonPhotography
      @DavidPattonPhotography  2 года назад

      Thank you Sammy, I was looking for a second camera body that was more robust than my N80, when weight is a consideration I will shoot with the N80 and when I’m wanting mirror lockup or a tougher build then the F5 will be the one, plus I can also shoot a couple different films at the same time. The F5 is a lot of camera for the money and it works well with my lenses, would like a F6 but is more than I can afford at this time.

    Love this video and the photos taken - they are so beautiful! After a hiatus of nearly 5 months due to my move, I just came back to film, shot my first roll yesterday and developed&scanned today. 35 mm is a very comfortable format allowing me to carry small and inconspicuous rangefinder gear. Most of my film photography is in 35 mm, too.

    Lovely images David! The tree ‘creatures’ appeared to be dancing. I enjoyed your comments on your photographic journey with B&W film. To me digital images, much like digital music at times is too neutral. Enough grain for character without the appearance of noise. That’s the ticket for me! Thanks for sharing the video, images and comments.

    Good photoshoot with the Nikon F5 and the Ilford Delta 100. I bought my F5 about a decade ago and I have not used it yet since I've been off and on with learning photography but this year I will get to the F5, FM3A, D700 and D800. I like the photos that you got with the Delta 100, it is very nice and the grain from film are very artistic, creative and also getting out to the store to buy the film and interacting with people is always good when doing film photography.

    Great photographs. A couple of months ago, I carried my Nikon D800, a Sigma 24~105 F4 and my Nikkor AFS-D 800~200F2.8 ( this one literally weighs a ton ) all over the Peak District hills in the N'W of England. By the time I crawled back to my car I hardly had the strength left to lift the back pack into the car, but the results were worth it. The two most beautiful image I took were with the 80~200 F2.8. Delta 400 is a great film. Thanks for the video.

      @DavidPattonPhotography  2 года назад +1

      Thanks, I’m very familiar with that 80-200 2.8, I carried it a lot in my journalism days, and like you by the end of the day I was feeling it Lol a great lens!

    Hey David. Great video. It's not about the gear, but image. Lately, I always have a Nikon N70, with me. It's good , encase I can't go back for the medium format stuff. Great images. KB

    • @DavidPattonPhotography
      @DavidPattonPhotography  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Ken, the N70 sounds like a great camera to have close by, sometimes you may come across a scene of subject that you may not see again so having a more compact camera can be a real asset, I’m looking at my N80 the same way, it’s easy to keep with me just in case.

    I have just shot a roll of Delta 400 alongside a roll of Tri-X 400 as a comparison on my F5 with the Nikon180mm f2.8 lens. I tedn to prefr the grain of Tri-X against the Delta 400, but that's not to say I don't like it. Nice video by the way.

    Hi David, Excellent as always. I havent shot film before or actualy very limited with instamatic type cameras of yesteryear. Its only since 2008 that I got into photography with digital and 2011 when I got my first nikon dslr. The last couple of years been shooting with olympus Micro4/3 as well just for the small factor. Film I would like to try but as yet not found something that I would like to shoot with. Anyway the images that you showed here were nice. The contrast I thought was crisp if that makes sense. Enjoy your week and take care.

    • @DavidPattonPhotography
      @DavidPattonPhotography  2 года назад

      Thanks Vedran, it’s great to hear from you! I enjoy using film but it’s not for everyone, if you get a chance to shoot a couple rolls you might find you like it, or you might find it’s not worth the hassle, Lol there’s nothing wrong with digital. Since I often prefer black and white photography, I find film a good choice because it offers a different look that I have a hard time getting with my digital camera, plus it lets me use skills that I hadn’t used for many years, like developing the film myself, something I did a lot of on the job, so for me there is a nice familiarity that I get from using film to make my images.

    Wow, David, you got some really great shots. The opening shot in the intro, also shown around 11:45 or so was beautifully composed. The "tree people" as you called them, I call the "Walking Trees" since they remind me of trees that may be walking around in Lord of the Rings manner. I really enjoyed the video. I hope we get to see a lot more of the F5 and BW film. Really nice. Mind if I ask about your developing process on this film? Which chemicals you used and times if you recall them?

    • @DavidPattonPhotography
      @DavidPattonPhotography  2 года назад

      Thanks Philip, Walking Trees… I like that, if I ever make those shots available as fine art prints, I’d love to borrow you naming of the shots. :) I developed this film in Arista Premium liquid developer, this is the first time to use this developer and I was very happy with how the negatives turned out. It appears to be similar to the Clayton F76+ I’ve been using. I use Photographer’s Formulary Archival Rapid Fixer TF-5 to fix the film. My development information : 7:30 minutes, 68 degrees, 1+9 dilution

      Feel free to use "Walking Trees." I actually heard Scott Walton (also on RUclips) use it. He is a film photographer as well and uses mainly 4X5. He and I have exchanged many emails and comments. He helped me plan a trip to Zion and that is where I first heard the term.

    Beware!! Grain and structure/ texture of high-speed film can lead to serious addiction! ;-) Just scanned some t-max 3200 @ 1600.
    I also know that "test“ thing you mentioned at the start, seems like this is the only thing that keeps me motivated sometimes... but probably it doesn't matter why you shoot as long as you shoot. Sometimes test-pictures turn out to be nice as well. As long it's not brick-walls. Have a nice day!

    I love my F5. Great camera. What L bracket are you using? I have looked everywhere for one and can't find one.

    • @DavidPattonPhotography
      @DavidPattonPhotography  9 месяцев назад +1

      The F5 is a real workhorse with a great meter, even so, I no longer have the F5, I decided to move to the F4, the version that uses 4 AA batteries,
      mainly for size, not weight, it’s still a beast of a camera but fits my needs a little better. I’m still using the L bracket though, it’s a little bit tall for the F4 but works just fine. The L bracket is a 3 Legged Thing QRII-FB Universal L-Bracket for full bodied & gripped cameras. I’ve used this L bracket on the F5, F4 and D810 with excellent results.
