THE ULTIMATE OO GAUGE DELTIC? Custom Weathered Accurascale Class 55

  • OK I know I previously trailered for a new video of multiple Deltic's storming through Neville Grove (this is still very much in the pipeline, as I type another 3 Class 55's are heading their way to my weathering studio) - but I couldn't resist sharing this with you in the meantime!
    So, now in all its subtly dirty and polished glory is 55017 "Durham Light Infantry" custom weathered for ‪@MrTBrearley‬
    The loco was pre-ordered almost as soon as the model was announced, and was promptly booked a place in my weathering queue. Back then we decided that this Deltic was to receive a polished finish with subtle dirt to emulate a busy top link express locomotive of the 1970's / 80's.
    The subtle dirt and polish effects gives depth and lustre to the factory finish, and as so often happens with this sort of weathering work, the model gains the impression of weight and bulk. To my mind this adds to the realism of this richly detailed and accurate model and combines to create the ultimate model Deltic in OO Gauge. Well done ‪@accurascaleuk1427‬
    With a decoder easily installed via the removable roof panel, "Durham Light Infantry" is silky smooth at the head of Tim's rake of Bachmann BR Blue / Grey Mk1's and 2's.
    During its visit, the entire coach rake has been fitted with the superb Hunt ELITE Buckeye magnetic couplings from ‪@WestHillWagonWorks‬ Not only do these look so much better than the standard tension lock couplings, they also provide more reliable running, closer coupling and convenient marshalling.
    www.westhillwa...
    A privilege to have such a thoroughly fantastic train visit Neville Grove!
    Although the sound equipped Accurascale Deltics look and sound astonishingly good, neither of these are DCC Sound fitted. So audio recordings has been used from footage of real world Deltics running on the mainline plus preserved railways.

    The weathering is brilliant. This is how I remember the Deltics I used to see almost daily on my commute to work each morning and evening passing through Hornsey Station on the ECML way back in the 1970s pre-Intercity 125s. slightly grubby and at 0.17 is the most realistic video shot I have ever seen, it could be the real thing! I really appreciate good modelling and the scene pays justice to the quality of the layout. I have subscribed and thank you. Ian

    I'm lucky enough as an old Croc to remember them at Doncaster my local spotting haunt, when they were introduced, the noise of those power units on idle had to be heard to be believed and when they took off, wow. If I had a bit of extra pocket money some weekends it was a cheap day return to York behind one. Once a year a two week summer holiday stay with relatives in Newcastle by train, Deltic hauled of course. Standing next to the loco you couldn't hear anyone talking to you. No wonder BR put sound screens behind the cab seats early on. Excellent production of a great layout and locos. Thanks for bringing back the memories. We'll done.

    I know you use a real sound recording, not the DCC sound, but I've just received mine as Nimbus with DCC sound and the sound doesn't work on a DC layout 🤷

    • @andyhinds542
      @andyhinds542 2 года назад +1

      It's not designed to. That's why you need a DCC layout. DC means direct current and is 12 volts DC. DCC is 16volt AC and is a constant current running through the rails and digital commands are sent to the DCC chip on the locomotive to make it move in the desired direction, turn the lights on or off, etc. You need to understand the difference in the two systems.

    • @andrewdking
      @andrewdking 2 года назад

      @@andyhinds542 I know what its all about, but I future proof myself by buying DCC sound locos these days. Some work very well on DC layouts, some don't. Most US DCC sound locos work fine (all limited sounds I know) on DC layouts, so there is no reason for British outline stuff to be so variable. My Dapol Black Label A4 uses an American DCC chip and works very well on DC as does my Hornby Dublo Duchess of Atholl with Olivia's Trains sound.

    • @mccarronfamily
      @mccarronfamily 2 года назад +1

      It should work on DC but give it more voltage than you think.

    • @andyhinds542
      @andyhinds542 2 года назад +1

      @@andrewdking I don't see how a DCC chip fitted loco should work on a DC layout because DC is basically analogue control. For a DCC ready loco to work on DC it must have the bypass chip which is standard on a ready to run model. I cannot run any of my locos in DCC mode unless they have the specific chip installed, which most of them do. It's the opposite with a DC only loco on a DCC layout. You're only going to get a buzzing noise as that 16V AC goes through the motor of the analogue motor and does nothing else. I'm going to enjoy retrofitting my old DC locos from the 80s with DCC circuitry, starting with an old Triang Class 81.

    • @andyhinds542
      @andyhinds542 2 года назад

      @@mccarronfamily That's not how it works. You can put as much voltage through a DCC chipped loco on a DC layout as you want and it will not work. It has to have the little DC chip installed so it will run like an analogue loco. That's usually how they come straight from the factory. In most cases you have to install a DCC chip in order to run it on a DCC layout because it has to be programmed.
