I am a huge fan of Don Collier. And High Chaparral. What a great cast, a no nonsense cast, and stories.. It's great to see Don and hear that voice again. Thank you Don and thank you Word On Westerns. Great video as always!
The High Chaparral was one of my favorite series. Don, as Sam, had an awesome voice and was the perfect foreman. He has always been great to fans. Thanks, Rob.
Oh Ron. Thank you so much for these clips. I just last week discovered your Word on Westerns series. I'm 67 years old and grew up on Westerns. Don Collier has always been one of my favorites. I've been watching at least 5 episodes per day since I've discovered your clips. I've never been to CA so I guess this is the best I can do to get to the Gene Autry Museum. LQ Jones is way up there too on my favorites list. Thanks Again.
Seeing Mr. Collier in an informal setting is a real treat, thanks Rob. I always knew as a kid that IF Don Collier was in a movie or T.V. show it would be full of action with full blown manly man stuff.
Another great episode. I've always loved Don's work. Great presence and a magnificent voice. I was (and still am) a fan of HIGH CHAPPARAL. He always seemed to exude character, reliability, and humility.
Cameron Mitchell starred in "Monkey on My Back" (1957) a great picture about boxer, war hero Barney Ross and his fight with drugs...Mitchell SHOULD have gotten an Oscar for his performance...
Thank you very much for posting this video, Don was my brothers father-in-law back in the 60s, Danse and Donnie was my best friend for many years until I went into the service, great storyteller, great man 90th and Tucson Arizona alive and well
Don was a great addition to any cast. I loved High Chaparral with great writing and high end casting. Thank you for another great Sunday video. , Rob. Stay well, amigo.
There is nothing better on a Sunday mourning than the West with Rob. He has story's that know one else has from the story tellers and the GOOD OLD DAYS WHEN SANITY RULED THE DAY.
Met Don Collier in Buckeye Arizona, great guy, talked with him about 30 minutes. Got a signed picture of him on my wall right now. We were both in the Navy, so, a lot of our talking was about that.
Rob... You are the best, thanks so much for keeping the spirit of Westerns alive. Without you and your great interviews, the history of Western movies and TV would be would be lost forever. Thanks again!
BTJ I really tried to love it but never could stand uncle buck. I’m sure I’m in the minority with that. I liked the episodes where uncle buck had limited or no screen time.
I needed to laugh today. Don Collier is a great story teller! What fun to listen to him reminisce about the best of times in the entertainment industry. Thank you (again), Rob, for bringing this history back to us. Bless you!

Thank You Rob! Have always loved Don Collier-we're pretty proud of him in Arizona and so fun to hear him talk about High Chaparral and his movies, Very entertaining!
Thank you for these wonderful western interviews. There are so many wonderful stories with great people that bring back many good memories. Again, thank you!
Last place I visited in the USA, before leaving in 2004 was the Old Tucson Studios. I visited the High Chaparral grounds, and got avphotograph in the barn where the last shoot out of Rio Bravo was filmed. But it broke mu heart that Rio Bravo/El Dorado Sheriff office, the Burdette Saloon, and the Carlos' Hotel were burnt in the 1996 fire. Save a lot of Kodachrome I was planning to pose as a very hefty cowboy 😫. And lovely Linda Cristal is a clear example of the Argentine women beauty. Pilar Wayne probably had a very jealous watch on the Duke when filming The Alamo ...
One could use Don's voice to smooth out rough wood, and get a couple great stories at the same time. High Chaparral was one of my dad's favorite shows, he would have got a real kick out of this one.
I was pretty young when High Chaparral was on. I loved Bonanza which was on at 9 PM and on rare (RARE) occasions my mom would let me stay up at 10 PM to watch HC. Sunday night was a school night. Loved that show. Manolito was so funny and a scalawag. Manolito and Buck were dang funny together when they weren't at odds with each other. I always wanted Blue's hat and gun.
I grew up in Tucson, Arizona during the years The High Chapparal was being filmed on location at Old Tucson. I had a big crush on Manuelito! I visited the ranch set several times. Great memories👍
Stuff you learn. That's the best part of your show, the behind the scenes interactions and day to day operations that led to what the viewers see on the screen. Without these chats these stories would be lost. I don't think of these as interviews, because you don't do the standard Q and A. You give a factoid of information and then let your guest riff, which bring out the memories leading to stories which show the how and why of making a TV show or movie.
I also wondered about Cameron Mitchell's boots. You would catch glimpses of them in different shots. They looked like Red Wing workboots with fringe all over them.
THE HIGH CHAPARRAL's first two seasons were fantastic, but as executive producer David Dortort said the location expenses had gotten too high and LA's Vasquez Rocks and Palmdale became the Arizona we saw the most often. The great casting along with locations of Old Tucson, the White Stallion Ranch and the nearby Arizona state and national parks made the NBC show a real gem. However, when 'Blue' Mark Slade left, the casting chemistry was gone for good. Don Collier is a wonderful guy, very down to earth -and what energy to travel and meet all his loyal fans. He was a natural, he really looked and acted the part in all the westerns he did. It was good that Don could work on the show and be allowed to take-off when a movie came along that paid a whole lot more. I always appreciated the times we did see him!
I think Don Collier's story about the hotel room is the funniest one you've posted yet. As an aside, last year my wife was interviewed by former "High Chaparral" stunt man Bunker de France. He and his associate, Harry Alexander, host a funny and informative internet radio program called "Voices of the West", which, like your show, is focused on preserving American western heritage and films.
I had to whisper in Don s ear my first day on the set of 'Young Riders' tv show. I have to thank Holly Higher and all the crew . Jan , Rita , Vickie , and the blonde who's name I forgot. I really had a great time with you all over the years and I do miss you all.
Buck & Manolito were the most entertaining on the show, and Don Sebastian was pretty entertaining too. What a great cast of stars. Too bad the show didn't continue with Gilbert Roland in it.
I loved HC when it was on and even then appreciated Don's role. I didn't like it the year he left, and was happy when he returned. Yep, Mano was my favorite character, so all those comments made sense to me. Don's voice was pretty powerful and distinctive and when watching The Undefeated, it was more his voice than anything else that told me he was in that movie, which is one of my favorites.
Hey Rob, is this video contemporaneous? Most seem to be from a few years back. No information about the date of the interview is in the description. I'm an Arizona Valley native, so I've been lucky enough to have a few encounters with the folks who work in films here. You can probably imagine my surprise when Big John pulled up to the gas pumps in his Ford van. Pretty sure it was a Ford. Anyway, The High Chaparral might have been an easy gig for him. He was exactly like his character, at least for the few minutes he was in the station. I nearly flattened a very drunk appearing Dick Van Dyke in the restaurant parking lot next door, when he stumbled from between cars right into the path of my ¾ton pickup truck. Fortunately, I was quick enough on the brake. Valerie Perrine gave me her credit card receipt as an autograph. During the gas shortage, Erma Bombeck showed up late, but I cheated a bit and sold her a full tank of gas. Celebrity has its privileges. I knew Don Collier was a Valley resident, but never got the chance to meet him. I'm not gay, not that there's anything wrong with that! LOL. That bed story had to be hilarious then, as now.
*Don told us a few of those on set of **_Bill Tilghman,_** with Johnny Crawford. He was every bit the gentle giant on set, as he is here. Darned sad thing his passing is too.*

That was terrific. Don seems like a great guy. Loved the bed story.
Not surprising to enjoy another what seems like an old friend stoping by and setting on the porch. Great Get Rob.

Glad you enjoyed it
There is nothing better on a Sunday mourning than the West with Rob. He has story's that know one else has from the story tellers and the GOOD OLD DAYS WHEN SANITY RULED THE DAY.
Your misuse of homophonic words is a bit irritating.
