CUSTOMER REJECTED THE BID! [WHAT DID WE PRICE IT FOR?]

  • Today, we're performing a leaf cleanup on this acre site that had many leaves to clean up and haul away. The original bid was initially rejected by the customer, but a few days later, they came around and gave us the approval and go-ahead.
    When you send out more significant bids for cleanups, never back down on your price, especially if you know how challenging the job will be. The customer agreed, and by the time we were done, they were incredibly thankful and impressed by the final result.
    Thank goodness we had LMN there to help us with our bidding and estimating. Without them, we wouldn't have known our numbers and accurately priced this leaf cleanup job.

    I can NEVER get that in north east Ohio for the same job. People refuse to pay over $500 in most cases for the same amount.
    It’s because the market here is so cut throat. These crack heads will do it for $50 and hurts the industry in my area. Such a struggle. But we’re pushing along!

      Yeah exactly man. It’s funny that’s why I asked in this video. $925 is a fair price here. Remember, the customer initially said no and wanted me to do it for $800. I really should’ve did this job for $1,250, but I knew we weren’t going to get it at that price.
      We made up for it with efficiency, equipment, and the dump is a .25 mile down the road. It all worked in our favor to get a decent 13% profit on this, not the best, but not the worst either.

    Nice video. I’ve always put leaves in 1 big pile that way you have all guys working together getting them into the hose verse losing a guy to driving the truck and one guy gets exhausted with the hose. If you get them blown to the driveway or street you can just lay the hose down on the ground and keep it fed with using rakes. And you’re not burning extra fuel with the truck running as well.

  • @firstname6208
    @firstname6208 2 месяца назад +4

    You need to build a chineese wall using a couple pieces of plywood and three hinges, cut a 10" hole near the hinge to stick the vac hose thru. Then blow the leaves into the hose. Fadter and easier. You did say you work smarter not harder.

    $85/ man hour if not booked too far out, $95/man hour if booked really far out, like more than 8 weeks. Plus sales tax. Reason for higher price if schedule is booked further out is because we can only take on so much work. We're booked about 9-10 weeks at the moment.

    We do our pricing based on sqft so 60,000 sqft would come out to $1980 with a $336.60 dump fee and 7% sales tax it would total $2478.76. That amount assumes full leaf coverage over the entire measured area. Price could easily be half that if the actual leaf coverage is minimal compared to the square footage. For three guys it would be a 12.87 hour job at that price point or 6.44 hours if only half that area actually had leaves and debris.

    As a farmer pruning costs typically 1000.00 for 3.5 acres of Vineyard. Using a machine. However 60 years of overgrowth made the job this year cost...in just labor 5000.00 add in new wire as the wire was over s hundred years old. New posts.. All the work to get the irrigation up and running operating at peak... It’s about 10,000.00 and still going. The larger the project the more expensive. I paid 70,000 for 4 acres of trees to be cleared...they removed the stumps with the trees... Point is... A good crew is worth good money. Big projects cost more than small projects. By being s customer that did not argue pricing and paid on time... I was given deals that were not given to other customers of my tree company..whom the owner is now a personal friend also.

    I think pricing wise, you did ok, based on the equipment. I'd probably expect it to be another $150-$200. But without that vacuum on the back of the truck that would of been like 2 extra hours? so equipment makes the difference. and I could see the bid being anywhere from $1,000-$2,000 easy. unfortunately for the customer, things are not as cheap anymore.

However I’m the only one in my town with a leaf vac. Have to drive 30 miles to find another one. As more and more people burn up lawns from burning leaves the busier I get in the fall. Last fall we did more doing leaf clean ups from November to January then we did mowing for 7 months.

    We'd do roughly $1,500 🍂
    Breakdown ⬇️
    -Labor: 3 workers, 4 hrs= 12 manhours x $75 = $900
    -Dump fee = $75
    -Truck fuel: 20 mi round trip @20 mpg w/ $3.50/gal fuel cost. 1 gal used× $3.50 = $3.50
    -Wear&tear, fuel cost:
    Truck: 67 cents/mi @ 20 mi trip. 20 x 0.67 = $13.40
    Equip.: ($15/hr mowers. $12/hr leaf vac. $5/hr 2 cycle) Equip. used: 1 Zero turn, 1 Leaf Vac, 1 Stand on blower, 2 Backpack blowers.
    Zero turn- 4 hrs x $15 = $60
    Stand on blower- 4 hrs x $15 = $60
    Leaf Vac- 4 hrs × $13 = $48
    2 blowers- 8 hrs × $5 = $40
    -Overhead (wifi/phone, insurance, uniform, website, etc) *varies :
    Let's say $14/hr to cover costs. 4 hrs × $14 = $56
    Above totaled= $1255.90 + 20% profit = $1,507.08

      Love to know how you came up with these numbers. While they sound impressive, they’re only pseudo accurate, I’m sure. I’m glad you’re better off than most. But your man hour is telling. Man hour includes everything you just listed including company overhead. So you’re double dipping here and guessing, at best. Not attacking you, I’m just saying this isn’t accurate pricing. I would’ve gave you a high five 3 months ago with a post like this but my concern is these numbers just aren’t accurate enough, and it’s still guessing.

    • @JARLandscapingLLC
      @JARLandscapingLLC 2 месяца назад

      @@BriansLawnMaintenance We appreciate the time you took for a response, but not sure our comment warrants being told that we "are double dipping and guessing, at best" and definitely not "better off than most". This is more than psuedo-accurate to how we price, and given the scenario (man hrs, equipment, etc.), it is realistic to what we charge. We simply took time and effort to provide a breakdown of how we would have priced the project, hoping it might help another supporter of yours.
      For our calculations, man hr includes more than just salary. It also takes in account benefits, insurance, overtime, bonuses, etc. We then have to include hrs spent on windshield time, going to the dump, cleaning equipment, going to trainings/obtaining relevant certifications, etc. Now, personal supplies related to that employee- PPE, supplied water & ice, etc. So, for example, pay your employee $25/hr, tack on everything else mentioned, add the hours spent off-site- you have an hourly rate that is more than just on-site labor. This means the wage will not cover all employee expenses.

      lol .. thanks for the comment, but how can you assume anything about how fast you would be on this site? That’s absurd on its face. If you think you’re mulching up this quality of leaves and thinking it looks good, you’re crazy. That’s not the professional way to do a job like this. Sounds like what someone who’s looking for weekend beer money would suggest. No one milked anything, and it was 3 guys on site for 4 hours. $925 was a hell of a price. I highly doubt you even know your break even, throwing an arbitrary number out there like “I’d do it for $500”. Yeah, I bet you would, and you’d tell everyone how you killed it.. come on man. Stop spreading folklore like this, this is exactly why our industry is in such rough shape with low ballers and guys who have no idea what to charge.
