Royal Enfield ne Taurus iss intension se banaayi thi ki Indian Army primarily Diesel use karti hai apne vehicles me like 4X4 Jeeps (Mahindra Commander or Jonga), Trucks, Tanks, APCs, Field Guns/Howzitters etc, lekin motorbikes me petrol use hota hai to unko diesel ke liye seperate aur petrol ke liye seperate inventory rakhni padti hai. US Army ne iss issue ko WWII me address kar liya tha. Fuel matlab "Petrol" (Jeep ya Hummer sab primarily petrol based hoti hai aur petrol vehicles ko field me maintain karna bhi aasaan hai) aur ammunition (kartoos) matlab NATO 5.56X45mm chahe pistol me use karo chahe M16 machine gun me. Isse unko logistics me kaafi saving hoti thi.
After 1990 Indian Army ne apni transportation ko modify kar liya with Maruti Gypsy (Petrol) for light duty personnel transport and BEML Tatra (Diesel) for heavy duty logistics.
Motorcycles were assigned to Light Duty Personnel Use and Army Postal Department jahan Indian Army ne petrol ko standard fuel accept kar liya tha by 1990 aur RE Taurus launch hui 1993 mein.

hello everyone excellent explanation for common people, I do watch your videos sir, but I have gone through this video and some of the question in the comments, so I am here with some technical correction and answer lemme clear you guys Diesel have slightly lower calorific value than petrol so definitely that's not the reason for higher efficiency. the efficiency depends on compression ratio and air std cycle on which it is working. though Otto (patrol) cycle has greater efficiency than Diesel or dual cycle the compression ratio is the judgemental parameter ie 18:1 Diesel to 9: 1 petrol , so the efficiency is higher for Diesel,
now the second thing Diesel has high torque, as I mentioned the about higher compression ratio it'll have higher pressure ultimately high force on crank , so it is the reason for high torque,than petrol
Now why not Diesel for sports car Diesel engine have lower speed range than petrol and torque curve is again not smooth for velocity vs rpm due to low speed range which in case of petrol is more smooth so consistency is dominating so it's advantage for petrol.

Sir, turbocharger itself needs exhaust from engine which should have higher displacement volumes as compared to lower displacement in thier gasoline counterparts.
Even without turbocharger, the basic design of diesel engine as illustrated in design patented by Rudolf Diesel has inherited drawback. This is due to higher ignition temperature (due to lower octane number as compared to gasoline) of diesel as compared to gasoline which has needs comparatively lower temperature. Again gasoline can be ignored by spark but diesel needs higher volumes of heated air mixed with fuel. This is achieved by glow plugs in diesel but higher volumes are to achieved by higher displacement volumes which further increases the size and thus weight of engine. Turbocharger improves the efficiency but again it makes engine more bulky.
I have seen Tauras named bullet like bikes with 350cc of engines but starting those in cold climate was a real challenge. You need to heat engine with propane burner or just lit fire as a indigenous solution.
In short higher engine weights and cost are reason that diesel engines are not common with bikes.
Lastly, I am not expert but I have shared my little knowledge. Reader please share your knowledge too.

No problem, diesel bike low maintenance. It is merely a commonly held misconception that diesel engines are very hard to maintain. Listen to your bike and service it regularly and you'll get the best bike with the best milage. Also, it can run on chip oil. You can never beat that. I'm planning to set up a bio diesel plant at home, recycling used vegitable oil.
Petrol engine higher (8000+)RPM pe chal sakta hai jisse bikes jaldi accelerate hoti hai powerband jada rehta hai...Diesel engine me turbo hone pe b utna acceleration nai milta aur uska RPM bhi low rehta hai (upto 5000RPM).

Mere pass डीजल bullet gadi था, chain spocket jaldi replace करना पड़ता था, साउंड वाइब्रेशन इतनी ज्यादा की phone call receive kar pana impossible. Cold season me Adha ghanta roz start karne me lag jata tha.
