What caring, loving and unselfish parents. I can understand how hard it would be to let go. You are giving them an amazing gift of independence and learning life skills.

What a lovely place! I wish there were SO many moer places like this. Would that we could all be as open and loving as these "disabled" people. What lovely parents, and the support people are just the best.

I'm in Central California, and at Fresno State is a program called Wayfinders, which is for young adults with disabilities. The students share an apartment with at least one other person, they learn how to care for themselves, how to budget their money, etc. You can also see if your state has a Department of Rehabilitation which helps anyone with disabilities find work, learn life skills, obtain AT equipment (one of my favorites is Voice Options which is an ipad with a program for those who are non-verbal.)

I wish we did, too. Wealthy country, but not enough services for people who need them.

I have autism and in 12 days, I’ll be moving into my first apartment with my best friend (my roommate). I’m excited to be moving back to my home state and be with friends again but I’m also nervous and scare since this is the very first time I’m living on my own and away from my parents along with three dogs

I absolutely love this!!!! But the girl that got engaged I really don't think she's in the capacity to say yes to getting married. That's a HUGE thing and she doesn't have the mentality

What qualifies you to judge? People with learning difficulties like depicted here living independently with ambulatory support... Oh, that's quite nice, to let them have that, experience that... Them having a love live, a sex live and such like the normal human beeings they are? Uhm... should they even be allowed to... that's not... they can't uh... - really?!

@tic5921 IF someone (in general) has the mental capacity of a child then NO "getting married and having a sex life" should absolutely NOT be happening! Would you let yours? If so you definitely don't need children!

    • @tic5921

You not ready to let your child grow up to their full potential? Instead beeing pretty condescending about who (as an adult) is to have sex - or children? Yup. I'm a bad parent in your book, feeling great about it.

People with learning difficulties have the same emotions, desires, wants and urges that everyone else does. Not all should be married but that's not up to us to decide. It's also not up to us to decide who should have an intimate relationship or not. That is something to be determined on an individual basis by family, medical and support staff. I think this girl knows exactly what she wants and, with a little assistance in everyday life will be successful with it. It appears in this documentary that she might be more advance than him but their love for each other is undeniable and they will figure it all out in their own way.
