Here’s our latest video on hatching eggs from Day 1-21. Y’all be sure and check it out! How To Incubate Eggs: Day 3-How To Tell If Your Hatching Eggs Are FERTILE 🐣 ruclips.net/video/L4aCU0AIFoU/видео.html
I just had this happen today. Completely shrink wrapped. Got a moist warm paper towel and gently rubbed the membrane and used lighted tweezers and peeled back very slow. I’m a little surprised you use your bare nails I would be scared of bacteria. I also did it half way to see if she could push out first - she did not. I fully unwrapped and she’s now trying to gain her strength…praying 🙏🏻
I have had to help out a few egg bound chicks over the years doing the same process. Even if a bit of the membrane is hardened and stuck to the chick it will eventually come off once you get the chick free from the egg. I like to give the chicks the best chance possible.
I actually had to do this this evening. Had the same problem with the membrane so I took a spray bottle filled with warm water and misted the membrane and it gave way much more easily and the chick slipped on out.
I recommend warm water and q tips do you don't accidentally drown the baby ... have had to help several. My daughter did one at 10 yo (perfectly) and it's so im portant that people understand that if there is bleeding, apply light pressure with qtip and STOP... so many video of people just ripping at the membrane while there is blood, not realizing the baby is not ready! 😢
We though we had one more day before I really had to lock down and we had open it to do final check when we saw one was pipped. Now we're trying our best to help undo what we did. So far it's breathing well.
That’s my question, how long do I wait to assist? Our little one has been pipped since last night. No progress with the actual egg, same hole is there but now we can hear him chirping. Idk when to assist, can you help please?
2 of my chicks died in this stage but they had barely started pecking out the egg. So when do you know when to step in? I thought it might have been too early to help them out the egg. When I did break the chick out it looked perfectly healthy. Like no deformities and stuff.
If the chick has pipped and not made it out of the shell within 12 hours, I would intervene as a last resort. The more you hatch, the more you will get a sense for when it is time to intervene. Most healthy chicks will unzip quickly. 12 hours has been our “golden hour” for intervention.
I have 9 duck eggs in the incubator right now. Hatch days 28, they been in there for 30 days and i hear chirping but eggs are still intact. Can you give me some advice on how to help them get out of their shell successfully… also what brand of incubator do you use and where did you buy it? Any advice is truly appreciated. Thank you so much ❤
My daughter did this a few days ago and the chick survived but it has no feathers on it’s head and I’m afraid the others will kill it. Not sure what to do. It’s currently isolated with one other chick so it won’t be lonely. Any advice on integrating it with the others?
I’ve never heard of that myself. Maybe wait until they are bigger and stronger before integrating. I wonder what caused no feathers? Was it fully developed?
@@redbarron22 we’ll do a video on incubating troubleshooting since we’ve had several of the same questions. Try to candle at least every 3 days to check fertility. Use a good incubator- we use Hovabator Genesis and it is well worth it. Make sure your temp and humidity are accurate and run at the normal range. Make sure your eggs are turned every day at least 3 times daily until day 18. If all else fails, you may just have had a tough run of eggs to hatch. We’ve had a shrink rapped egg on every batch that we’ve hatched this year when normally we don’t so the weather may be affecting our hatches.
What’s the longest these little chicks can pip? I have one that’s one incubation day 22 and it pipped day 20 . Hoping it doesn’t dehydrate . It has a decent crack but just not making much headway. Thanks in advance
Ok so I have a chick currently stuck bc I was opening up the lid like an idiot. But when I try to help, I see a small spot of blood. So I stop. So I started to just peel back the shell and leave the membrane that bleeds. Then mist it with warm water. Help!!
How long has the chick looked that way? If it has been at least 12 hours, I personally would go on and help it out as a last resort. It doesn’t sound very hopeful. The membrane will be stuck on like concrete. I’ve had success to continue to peel without water. Best of luck!!
So the chick made a hole but it since has not made an effort to rotate and mess whit the other side so i looked ad him and the skin on top , the really white one was very hard and litteraly in a vacum so i riped a little off at the part where theres space and a a slightly red watter started to leak a little and i wondered if thats ok or should i should do something
@@harmonhomestead7434 its all good the embryo was just stuck to it just a little bleeding from the umbelical cord but its kickin and moving and sleeping and breathing
Hii I have 2 geese eggs and I hear chirping from one but the egg is still intact and the other egg has pipped a small hole but still isn't put yet its been about 8 hours and yes its breathing I can see its beak
@@harmonhomestead7434 I had to completely assist one duckling yesterday, so much that she pushed out into my hand. But I keep a bowl of warm water, several tubes of tweezers, Vaseline (for blood) q tips for assisting and then finally wrapped her back up with a wet paper towel to put back in the bator. She’s shrink wrapped but not bad and I’m worried about this one. Have you had any go past 48 hours, be shrink wrapped and still not be ready?
From pip time, the longest I have went and been successful at hatching by hand would be 24 hours. After that is seems to be a toss up. I’ve never hatched ducklings by an incubator so it may be different than with chickens. Best of luck! Let us know how it goes!!
Oh man I accidentally opened my incubator not realising two of my quail eggs had pipped. I know quail hatch way quicker than chickens and they’re still not out yet so now I’m super worried and I’m so nervous to do an assisted hatch
I’ve never assisted quail, I’m sorry! If they’ve pipped all the way through the shell and you don’t see the membrane, they have a good chance of hatching in my experience. Best of luck!!
I dont get it tho. My humidity and temps were always where the incubator said they should be. The temp was always 99 the humidity on the first 18 days was always 52 55 then after 18 days 62 69. Half of my eggs are either dying or not forming.

@@harmonhomestead7434 Hi, thanks for your response.I wasn't trying to be rude, I've seen other hatchers hold the egg in moist wash towels,or paper towels while peeling, and doing assisted egg hatching rescues.

I made the same mistake by listening to everyone on the internet. Now I follow my gut. I raise ducks and I know when it’s time to intervene. Just pay close attention after they internally pip, if they don’t externally pip within 24 hours you’ll need to make a safety hole unless the chick will use up all the air in the air sac and suffocate. If mine don’t begin to externally pip within another 24 hours I will make the safety hole larger, tap and talk to the chick to stimulate it as well. If still no progress is made I will intervene as long as there are no visible veins. I have not lost even one with intervention. Please don’t listen to people that say not to help, you could quite possibly be letting a perfectly healthy chick die that just wasn’t able to turn or was malpositioned. Sometimes a chick will not turn and begin pecking at the inside of the egg without piping into the air sac. When this happens you’ll see a grey bruise on the shell. You will immediately have to put a safety hole over the bruise unless your chick will suffocate and die. Adding the safety hole will give him the air he needs. When a chick is breech it will likely need assistance with hatching, but I’ve seen many breech chicks hatch on their own. I have some that are pipping and we're ar day 23 & idk what to do
Also, there's no start of a crack in the remaining eggs. I think they're shrink wrapped
I’d let them try to hatch because some runs take longer than others.

You need to wet the membrane while you're helping. With a warm cloth. You could really hurt the chick without doing it
Thanks

Wouldn't wetting it lightly help loosen it?
It may, but since it worked dry, I have used it since with no trouble. I have seen good results with both though!
I always wet mine with luke warm water, before I start that.
👍
Should it be wise to put a warm, wet paper towel around it, then peel?
It might work! I don’t see why it would hurt. I just wanted to be able to see what I was peeling while I was getting the chick out. Good idea!
