Yes big bats are interesting but pitching wins games. Since the Jays still need a starting pitcher look at LHP Shinnosuke Ogasawara from Japan. The Jays have international money available and he just might be a deal worth looking at. The Jays still need another starter , international makes sense , then trades if possible and lastly FA , but FA are expensive and seem to be afraid of Canada.
Geting Santander for 5 years for 92.5 Million plus an opt out after 3 years and a team option for a 6th year was a good deal How the heck can you get him cheaper when he hit 44 Hr 102 RBI in 2024 and 28 Hr 95 RBI in 2023 and in 2022 he hit 33 Hr 89 RBI The Blue Jays were lucky to still have Santander still available in mid January . Obviously Santander was not receiving many good offers from the other teams or he would not have taken this contract friendly deal in favour of the Blue Jays organization .Have they spent that much ? Why are they way over the luxury tax ? Most of their players are making well less than 10 Million I think You should explain this in a video about Blue Jays players salaries and the luxury tax they unfortunately have to pay
You guys forgot about Miami. They need to hit 105m salary in order to trigger the competitive balance money. I believe that they receive 80m, so its a no brainer to get to that 105m floor. They are at a projected 85m now. They could take salary on for prospects... I want to see a seemingly unrealistic 10 man trade. Bassitt and Springer (35m+)plus 2-3 of our better prospects and some low level guys for Alcantara. (17m). I think Miami will make a money grabbing trade with someone... Let is be us.
Long time Jays fan from NJ, now living in Dunedin so I can see my Jays (and be warm)! I don't understand the CBT projections. I saw the same number you shared today on the podcast but my CBT number is $238,600,000 as of today. I'll find an email to send you my spreadsheet and you can let me know what I'm missing. Love the signing of Tony Taters and I think we got good value. While money will always be a consideration, I actually think Soto was a HUGE overpay. And while I LOVE Vladdy Jr, we need to be creative when meeting his number. My proposal $450M over 15 years structured as follows ($15M per year; $80M signing bonus; $145M deferred (10 years at $14.5M per year). Thoughts? LOVE THE SHOW!
I’ve been saying that with Soto this entire offseason, paying 765 for a player that is obviously a generational hitter, but is one dimensional. Maybe they can make a lot of them money back in ticket/jersey sales but that’s a big mountain to climb. We haven’t had a chance to make a Locked On Blue Jays email but we’ll have to get one started! Would love the Vladdy extension but unfortunately he holds all the power and may be looking for a larger AAV. Appreciate the support from Dunedin, hopefully you have a chance to go to a couple spring training games!
I’d take Bregman and Pivetta and a bullpen piece. Love Pete and would be incredibly stoked as a fan if we signed him but my brain is saying Bregman and my brain is screaming Pivetta over Scherzer.
The entire team didn't hit that well last season, not just George Springer. (Thankfully Vlad got advice from Jesse Barfield, like he did in 2021, in order to turn himself around.) The Blue Jays are stuck with Springer, for better or worse, and hopefully Springer can bounce back a bit. The Blue Jays would have to drain talent from their ailing farm system in order for another team to take most of Springer's contract, so more damage will be done if Springer goes than if he stays. Springer does provide veteran leadership to the team, and hopefully he and the rest of the team do better in 2025.
I have no issues . Miami is the easiest escape plan, but you're right, the cost in prospects would be large They have 20m to reach the threshold and a big trade chip in Alcantara (17m) who could allow them to swallow almost 40 mil and half a dozen prospects in a potential trade .
Santander was a 3 war player in his career year..if they add Alonso, another 3 war player they might compete for 3rd, although the Red Sox are much improved. Still look short of the top three.
If the Jays really wanted to move George Springer, they could do it. Here’s what the deal would look like. You call the Chicago White Sox and you say we will trade you, George Springer, and Jake Bloss or Elvis Martínez and in return you will give us some Swiss chalet coupons. The point being, you’re gonna have to give up a premium prospect to go along with George Springer and basically get nothing in return to get someone to take his contract. Or, you’re gonna have to eat half of it which kind of mitigates the point of trading him in the first place so ultimately you end up staying with George Springer. As long as George is not hitting lead off I’m OK if he stays because really it’s spilt milk at this point.
I’m not sure you could unload George Springer to somebody like the athletics. Simple reason is he’s a 10 year player, I think he could veto a trade. He would have to approve a trade. I don’t think he would go to a nothing team.
Atleast we're not Pittsburgh. They are going to offer 30 year season tickets behind the plate for Skene's Rookie card. Of course an LA Dodger fan got the card using deferred allowance to buy packs (he's 11. That money or at least the chores, were certainly deferreed) 10 years after skenes retired and 15 years since he left Pittsburgh, they will be paying for that card
Jays still need a better catcher, if you’re realistic for a minute you know that Kirk can’t handle the workload and he’s too predictable on what he’s going to call behind the plate
Who else was in the market for him, though? this late into January and he’s still available tells you something. Who else was gonna give him that many years other than the Blue Jays who are desperate?
You could say the Blue Jays were “desperate” in making a signing considering the have missed out on so many free agents this off-season as they had a dire need of a power bat, but adding 1 more year at 18.5 million compared to the 20-25 million that was projected is a bargain for a guy coming off of a 44 home run season. Initially we heard the Angels, Red Sox, Jays and Orioles were in on the Santander market, but as the off-season progressed it seemed like the Jays were the only team that showed serious interest. Blake Snell didn’t sign until March last year, and he’s a damn good ball player. We’ll see how this contract looks in the next couple years, but for right now this looks like a great signing!
Under all the hate of missing big targets, this team quietly (until now) added plenty of value. I yap about it every video. Lol Assuming expectations of 25/25 from Bo and 40hr from Vlad.. I expect 80+ additional HR, 50+ SB and almost 200 runs on top of last year with taters, Gimmy and Straw. And we're likely getting more. I am on the side of 'pitching needed the attention". They have wanted that elite starter almost as bad at anything (makes sense since they chased Ohtani and he was due to be that elite starter this year). I believe there is a trade to get that guy out there somewhere
You have had a lot more patience than us, looks like it’s slowly starting to pay off! Scherzer is looking more and more likely as we progress through this offseason, I think the biggest selling point will be the term. Doesn’t seem like the Blue Jays are done adding, we’ll see if they decide to do that by free agency or by trade. If we’re lucky, we might even get both!
@LockedOnBlueJays I'm just as heartbroken as everyone else. Especially Ohtani. It really hit me. First big loss and it felt close. Wish they found a way to get Chapman to stay. His was the first signal of discontent brewing under the scenes-even in a successful year for the team. But to explain a little why I've remained optimistic: I was and remain adamant that the Jays were attempting to trade for Ohtani but pivoted to Belt as a placeholder when the Angels decided to keep him. After that I believe Rogers kept the long term spending in check while they prepared for not only Ohtani, but Soto as well. That explains (to me) why they didn't spend last off-season. (And because there weren't really reliable option long term) They hoped for the best and it went as bad as possible tho. But they did their jobs and got under the lux and salvaged the deadline with a sweet trade. The failure among 7-8 all stars is too suspicious to blame the front office. Instead of being compliment pieces, Turner and IKF were 2 of the best 5 hitters. They did what they were supposed to and more (combined). I choose to excuse it as deflation of energy And now that Soto has passed, the chains are off and business is back to usual, except that unicorn budget seems to remain in play somewhat (unicorn turns out to mean deferred) If they click, this is a great team.
Keep up the great work guys❤😊
Adding Alonzo would be edwing/Bautista/Donaldson 2015 vibes....all mashers, what a fun team that would be to watch.
Need that Vlad extension.
If i was Alonso or Bregman i would b telling my agent to call the Jays asap
Santander and Giminez are interesting acquisitions. Are they complimentary pieces for Vlad and Bo or replacement pieces?
Yes big bats are interesting but pitching wins games. Since the Jays still need a starting pitcher look at LHP Shinnosuke Ogasawara from Japan. Blue Jays ballpark now with all the renovations is not a homerun hitting park. I think

@@LockedOnBlueJays Section 206, Row 8, Seats 5-8 for all games! When you coming down and I'll save you a game or two...

Remember when we had Gabriel Modeno

Maybe the Marlins would trade for Spinger to get them to the salary cap minimum and stay out of trouble with the league
If the Jays really wanted to move George Springer, they could do it. Here’s what the deal would look like. Springer, Roden and Kasevich for Nick McLain.
Extend Bo Bichette and Vladdy long-term now
What is twitter ?
It’s X, we still call it twitter because that’s what it was before
We are rebuilding. We are just doing it with the check book instead of the draft
I’m not sure you could unload George Springer to somebody like the athletics. Simple reason is he’s a 10 year player, I think he could veto a trade. He would have to approve a trade. I don’t think he would go to a nothing team.
Juan Soto has the same kind of option.
Atleast we're not Pittsburgh. They are going to offer 30 year season tickets behind the plate for Skene's Rookie card.

Of course that kid is a Dodgers fan😂 I’m going to defer paying my taxes until 2080, seems like a fair deal

the US reporters are just butt hurt that Santander chose to play in Canada this is a great add for Toronto
This contract is a bargain. With the deferrals it’s only about 14 million a year. Anyone who thinks this is overpriced is an idiot !!!
Reporting resigning Vladdy ruclips.net/user/shortserX2f6JpskI?si=z1lfi2yS2uqFVNcG
I’m taking that with a grain of salt until we see more reports, but hopefully that ends up being true!
@LockedOnBlueJays truth will be good
