Damn, Sena tech support was useless for me. I actually already bought my replacement smh10 so I could use my existing mountings. But after giving up on Sena support just now, I found your blog entry. Damn, you made my day, your procedure worked like a charm! Thanks you!!!!

Thanks for posting this - you saved me from buying another headset. It never would have occurred to me that it was the new software that was the issue and not a bricked headset. Fortunately I am anal and actually saved an old sena updater to my hard drive.
wow. great info. it worked for me with the old driver with new software. I had this happen when I wanted to update a set from 2013 that was never updated/used. Had to repalce the batteries but with this I got to update it.

I have the same problem with my SMH5. Hard reseting must press 2 buttons with pinning the reset hole for 30 seconds. You may check USB port on Windows>Device Manager if the resetting works you would see "SMHxx DFU" on the Device Manager. You can then reinstall a new firmware. Hope it's help.
My new Outrush helmet never could connect to the software of SENA, It sends an error USB [1][N]. I tried the original Sena cable, the GoPro cable, the Insta 360 cable, the Samsung 10 phone cable, and another ten cables. I have tried USB C to USB A on a mini Mac with Monterey, tried a USB C y USB C in a MacBook Pro with Sonoma, a Tablet Surface Pro with Windows with the old software, the new software, tried a converter to USB A to C with the OEM USB cable. Also, I change the privacy settings in both Macs to allow motoring the Sena program. It reopened the program and tried rebooting MAC and reinstalling the software. It won't work, so I can't upgrade the firmware now. However, I could set it up on Bluetooth for my Pan America and iPhone.
That's like asking a Doctor to stop someone's heart just so they can film the resuscitation! Haha, I get what you're saying, but I'm not going to brick it again just to record it.
I kept getting stuck updating at the usbcheck file, when trying to update my 20s EVO. I think i was using any micro sub instead of the proprietary cable. Also, dont plug it into a powered USB hub. Plug cable directly into computer USB port
@@MotoRidesAustralia Sadly, the links to older versions seem gone and I'm stuck with this issue on 4.3.7. Nothing useful on Mac, Windows recognises a USB device but the Sena BT Device Manager can't find it. UPDATE: THX for the link in the description! 🤩
Sadly It didn't work for me. The download of the old driver was successful but for some reason or another, when I tried to 'device recognize' the program itself crashed. No blame on the program itself, just my computer is probably just junk. Not to say it won't work for others, just my bad luck struck again.

I get the ding ding noise when connecting to the PC but then nothing. Driving me nuts :-(. Any more ideas? I'm not very cluey about drivers and the like so any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry, mate, I didn't look at which video you were commenting on and assumed it was the latest one, so ignore my previous message. Have you tried downloading the software file on my website that I have linked in the description? That’s the one that worked for me. Just remember that the firmware itself is not software, it’s a file. You use the software to transfer the firmware file to the device and then the device installs the firmware.

If it's all too hard then I'm close to giving up. I'm just so pissed at Sena...the unit I have was working perfectly - I only tried the firmware upgrade because it was suggested by the app on my phone. Hindsight is a wonderful thing! Thanks for your help anyway...and I love your channel, just came across it (searching for a solution to the fkn Sena issue) and it's a great channel with plenty of great videos. Or, just pair the headset with your smartphone (Android or iOS) using the Sena Utilities App that the instructions tell you to download and update the firmware with one touch from there... =\

you need USB2.0, Dont work with ESB 3.0
I can't remember if I mentioned that but yes, good point to raise. Needs to be the black USB 2 port rather than the blue one.

The problem is the USB cables, need to be USB 2.0 cables. Other cables don't work.

Is this in the transferring of the gpx file to the device?

used a usb on the back side of pc and it seems to have worked.
ridiculous what we have to do to simply update an intercom system.
i'll be switching to cardo once my sena craps out
The new Sena's are much easier and update via phone connection. The SMH10 is just an old system even though you can still buy it now.

I have the Sena 50s now and it does the same. Much better unit than the SMH10.

That's what caused the issue. That's why I had to roll it back to an older firmware.
