I feel like a lot of your videos are showing how to appreciate and savour the simple moments in life- something I definitely need to do more! Also, yay for fluffing the tree branches!! My partner thinks this is a frivolous step but I always insist on doing it!
Yeah, I'm trying to do it a little more than usual in this series; there's a lot going on at this time of year and that offers a lot of opportunity for appreciation of life, but at the same time, often distracts us from actually doing that.
Jenny is so talented, the garland is so lovely! And yes, enjoying the process of putting the tree together and then up, is for me part of the joy of the season. Thank you!
It’s wonderful waking up each morning knowing there is going to be a new Atomic Shrimp video. It brings me such joy and comfort knowing I can rely on Mike to give me a great start to my day. Lovely to see Jenny too, thanks guys! Xx
@@adamparker6541 That's very mean-spirited, you say that as if you begrudge Mike earning the pittance that RUclips pays. Mike provides excellent content and most of us appreciate that, it's a pity that you are apparently unable to.
This was so peaceful. You two have such a harmonic atmosphere around you - watching you decorate for christmas gave me the feeling that everything is going to be okay.
That made me feel quite emotional. I love decorating for Christmas - not to look like a magazine, but to enjoy all the memories of the ornaments, most of which have meaning as I or the now-grown kids made them (making ornaments has been a tradition in our home), or we bought while traveling, or we received as gifts. Very few of our ornaments are generic baubles these days -- reflecting how much time has passed and how many wonderful memories have been made. Anyway, I'm a little teary, but in a good way. Thanks for sharing your lovely Christmas tree and garland.
Thank you for another lovely shared experience. We haven't got the tree and ornaments out of the attic for years, felt too old and arthritic for such efforts, but watching you and Jenny doing it was utterly charming and nostalgic. Please tell Jenny that her sewing is much appreciated by a fellow hand stitcher, and how much her presence adds to the pleasure of us watching. Truly grateful to both of you, the world is a better place for having you in it.
Very sweet. I especially enjoyed you admiring, and showing off, Mrs. Shrimp's hand-sewn ornaments. We used to get live trees, and when it was my turn, I would always pick the Charlie Brown tree, because I figured no one would want it and it would be sad. We us a fake tree these days.
This was a bittersweet watch. My dad died recently in September, but was born and raised in Norfolk, England (though all his children were born in the US). We recently went through his estate to get it ready to sell, and the most emotional were his Christmas things. Even the smallest things had meaning. This felt a little like I had my dad back for a bit (different accent, but hey ho!) so thank you.
I feel for your loss, my Mom died in 2016 and our first Christmas was hard at first, but we managed to share and laugh about other Christmass's we had with her which did help. It will be a time to recall all the good times you had together and don't be afraid to laugh, it would be what they would want you to do. Stay strong
I always appreciated a well decorated Christmas tree. As a child i could lay on the couch, in my footie pajamas, for hours just watching it twinkle. It was only after I became old enough to be trusted to help decorate without breaking anything precious that i understood exactly how magical the transformation process is. it added a depth of feeling to the Holiday display that i still marvel at to this day. Thank you for inviting us into your home to share in the Shrimp family festivities.
Really loving the Atomic Shrimp Advent Calendar! Didn’t manage to plan for an actual advent calendar this year so it’s been a treat following along with this! And my husband is going to attempt to make us Festive Breakfast tomorrow, which shall be interesting since we’re not British so mincemeat is a bit of a foreign concept to us. Thanks for sharing your festive endeavors!
Mr. Shrimp. This video brings me great joy. I was the one who received the family ornaments when my grandmother passed. I cherish each and every one of them when we put them up each year. Thank you so for bringing tears of Joy and letting us share the Holiday with your family. Give an extra pat and treat to Eva from us!
Thank you for this video, got me in the mood to check out my decorations - three large boxes full of many, many years of Christmas decorations which seem to get added to each year...... I do really love Jenny's Christmas card garland though, how amazing and unique.
When our children were small we used to take them to the local garden centre so they could take in the atmosphere and then choose just 1 special Christmas tree ornament each. This became a traditional family thing until they hit middle teens when it became deeply uncool. I kept a list of which ornament belonged to which child.
I have been enjoying these videos. I wake up and enjoy my morning coffee with them, and it has been a very calm, and relaxing way to wake up. Thank you, and Merry Christmas to you, Jenny and of course Eva...🎄
I'm enjoying these so much that I'm now hoping that Mike will do a 2025 advent calendar, I mean one video every day for 2025 ....... ;-) I jest of course, that would be a ridiculous amount of work for Mike, I'm just showing how much I love these videos. 🙂
Hello Jenny, Mike, Eva, Kevin (hehehe) and the whole xmas doings. It's marvellous seeing the tree go up. My Parents (both born 1920) bought the house I grew up in after WW2, 1945. They had friends from the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) A Jewish Couple (the wife loved decorating the tree) their kids and later when I and my brother were born, 1952 & 1954 we became part of the show. Florence was in charge of the xmas tree decorations but we all pitched in. They got a live tree every year. I had the lights we used to put on the tree and some of the ornaments when I moved to Mexico and we'd use them to decorate until they simply didn't light up anymore. Thanks guys for the memory jolt, and sharing your xmas routines. Jacques Mexico
Every year we'd buy one new decoration to add to the collection. One year there were native folks from the countryside who brought hand woven straw decorations, similar to the ones you have.
Thank you for sharing your decorating. I always find it fascinating, seeing other people's Christmas decorations: it's a holiday that always seems to carry so many personal touches and memories. In my home, we actually decorated our tree primarily with beaded eggs: some of them made by my mother and her sister when they were teenagers in the 1960s, and some made by me and my siblings just in the last few years. And then there are the really old family ornaments: the tiny brass bicyclist that my grandmother picked up, the translucent blown-glass baubles from the turn of the century from my great-grandmother. Watching this has me feeling quite nostalgic, and very much looking forward to seeing my siblings for Christmas in a couple weeks. The old family home is long gone, and we've long scattered to the winds, but we rent a house for a week back in my hometown area, and go visit the things we'd loved as children. (The person who rents the house was quite confused that we went for the same place two years in a row, in the middle of December. Our home area is quite popular as a beach destination in the summer, but is bitterly cold and close to deserted in the winter.)
Thank you so much for uploading these snippets of your life. The last two days in my world were quite bad, and having your videos calmed me down. Hearing you talk and examine things makes my mind rest for a while, you remind me of the simple joys of december.
Mr. Shrimp and Jenny, it was positively delightful watching you decorate for Christmas together. The card garland that Jenny made is so lovely and what beautiful handiwork. Greetings from Canada!
Mr Shrimp- I have been following your videos for about two years. Discovered you through your budget cooking videos. This Advent Calendar series is so enjoyable! It is fun to see Jenny and Eva in your videos. Thanks for giving us something to look forward to each day.
We have a couple really special old ornaments. They came from my mom's childhood home and must be 100 years old. Then we have our vintage 60s ornaments and ones my grandma made. It's fun reminiscing about where everything came from. Your tree and decorations are lovely and cozy.
Decorating the tree is my favorite part of the Christmas. Bringing out all our old favorite ornaments from year to year. A few years ago my mom past and I got all of her ornaments so my tree is very full. I love the garland Jenny made it’s really beautiful, having one of a kind homemade decorations makes a home unique. I can’t say enough times how this advent calendar videos is a brilliant idea.
Thank you! I put up an artificial tree with just lights on it. It came pre-lit and I added 3 more sets of red lights. I draw the curtains in the day so I can see the lights better and open them in the evening to share with the neighbors. I don't want to get fussy with decorations. So thank you for letting me watch your tree.
I've found hanging the tree lights vertically up and down in a sine wave pattern makes it easier. But this could just be one of those "peeling a banana from the bottom is better" type of things which doesn't actually make a whole lot of difference.
9:00 That garland is delightful. Hats off to Jenny for making that! I think the forethought of having it adjustable so the decorations can be placed in ideal locations is great
The handmade Christmas trees for the tree and the hand sewn garland are very beautiful. Jenny is a talented seamstress. Thanks Mike for sharing this with us.
So lovely to see you both on camera, doing something so festive and joyous (thank you Jenny, I know how being camera shy can be ❤) Your wife has made the most adorable garland decorations, and I love how your tree decorations are a collection of everything - just like my tree when we get to decorate it 😊🎄
I appreciate that your baubles are an eclectic mix. To me, that makes a tree so much more interesting and personalized than a rigidly curated set of ornaments.
One of the less fun parts to decorating the tree is untangling the lights every year, no matter how careful you are packing them away, i think the Christmas trolls sneak into the loft every year and tangle up all the lights!
I wind mine around a double sheet of fairly rigid cardboard with a notch cut to hold the plug end, and one cut for the “end” end. Never have a problem with tangling, and back in the day when one loose or broken bulb stopped the whole string from working, it was easier to check for the culprit. 🎄
It's so lovely to get the decorations out and look through them all...each one has a memory and an association. Some of our decs are not valuable in the monetary sense but are priceless because they were made by my now adult children when they were small. The cardboard angel that sits on the top of our tree was made by my 26 year old son when he was 5. She is wobbly, tatty, the glitter has almost gone, one wing is bent...but to me she is the best angel ever and will never be replaced!
How lovely. My tree tends to be flung up at the last possible moment (a couple of years recently actually after Christmas!) because I’ve been stuck at work and haven’t had the energy to deal with it. I haven’t been able to take time to enjoy it at all and resent the blasted thing being there. It gets left alone In its corner and ignored until I take it down again, sometimes around Easter, when I find time. There’s no anticipation or enjoyment anymore. It was great to see someone with the energy to experience their tree and decorations positively. I used to collect them so I have some nice things. They just don’t bring me joy anymore since I’m so worn out. Loving the advent calendar shrimp family. Something I can enjoy while I can’t move around much and trying to get together the energy for the next task. Thank you.
Beautiful tree decorations, nice and traditional, unlike a lot of vloggers who have a 'perfect' matching collection of decor. I love the handmade card garland, did Jenny make it? I already know shes very talented as she makes all of your amazing shirts. Thanks for sharing 💗
In my region one city had a christmas decoration swap market. I think this is a really good idea, I like colours that are not in fashion and not available in the shops, just like this deep blue little bauble. Searching and finding a little gem like this is more fun than just buying it, also sustainable.
Merci, les Crevettes! I don't bother with a big tree any more; I just set out my little wooden Scandinavian candle tree. So many memories are packed into those boxes of decorations, all across the world. Back in the sixties, we made some papier-maché baubles, which included our first cats. You could make a little Eva to hang on next year's tree!
I love the randomness of your Christmas tree decorations and Jenny's handstitched decorations are lovely. It would drive me nuts that your Christmas card tape is twisted though!
Thanks Mike and Jenny, for sharing your tree trimming with us, and the other decorating as well. Trimming the tree has always been full of personal memories as a good half of our ornaments were hand made by us for our parents, and now being a parent of grown children, we have all those old ornaments made for our parents and our family still, with ornaments made by my children as well. Each one gets a space of honor on the tree, and each one is a great memory of familiar love and more innocent times. The process is indeed the best part-- after untangling the lights is done. Merry Christmas to Mike, Jenny, and anyone reading this. May you enjoy this great celebration of the birth of Jesus with family and friends and with great memories, too.
I agree that putting up the decorations is something to be enjoyed in itself. This brought back memories of the type of ornaments we had when I was young - especially the delicate glass ones. But I also remember my parents putting up with the (hideous in hindsight) crotcheted garlands I made for the tree.
Really thankful for this. Something that feels like it's been missing the last few years a real spirit of Christmas. Going to have to break out the box and do my own version of this. To anyone interested, just the other night caught a rendition of "Have yourself a merry little Christmas" by Billie Eilish of all people, from SNL and it was really well done. Something to add to the festiveness.
Took me two days to fluff out my tree until it was full looking- fortunately it is pre lite one. It sat for another week settling in before it had its adornments added with the help of my 6 year old grandson he may I add did an amazing job. I couldn’t live with a tree that wasn’t coordinated with the room decoration- perhaps a bit OCD or just fussy lol. I do have however every colour imaginable of decorations all in themed boxes- time for me to let most of them go after Christmas- maybe 😊Thank you for sharing your decorating day with us.
Side note, the background music for this video was great. Not sure how much thought or effort goes into that for your videos, but I enjoyed it. I think the one I'm referring to is "Oh Christmas Tree - DJ Williams"
The card holder is really beautiful, Jenny is so talented. The whole household is incredibly talented, whether it is arts and crafts, cooking/technology/gardening/foraging/tumbling or barking at rocks.
I tend to the shinier the better but a tree with those straw ornaments and maybe polished wooden bead garlands would be gorgeous.Yours is a mixed lot like I always had, very cheerful.
... didn't expect to cry this morning 😅. This whole video was so nostalgic for me, reminds me of my childhood Christmases. Now I'm at Uni and I strangely miss those days, this video brought up a lot of memories lol. Sorry for the tangent, great video as always Mr Shrimp! 🦐
I admit I haven't put up a christmas tree in years. But always loved the process of going through all the ornaments. Stuff that you inherited or were gifts and have special meanings. Love the idea of the card garland too.
A lot of my tree decorations have sentimental value and stories behind them, and so I have made a couple of photobooks with all the relevant info for when I am not around to share it.
That Christmas-card-garland is such a wonderful idea, now I wish someone would write me a Christmas card 😔. Anyway, thanks for inviting us to this lovely glimpse at your Christmas traditions ❤
I really loved decorating the christmas tree as a kid and I would always put a lot of things on it until I ran out of space. I also remember going to other people's places and seeing a very sparsely decorated tree and thinking it looked a bit empty. I'm happy to see I'm not the only one who put a lot of decorations haha
December's come upon us so quick, and though I've been spending the start of it in bed with a cold, it's been a delight waking up each morning to a new door in the advent calendar. You're spoiling us, Shrimpy. 😁 Soon as I'm over this cold, I'm putting snowflakes up in the window. I make paper ones every year and have tons now lol. ❄️ The ornaments on the ribbon for holding up cards is so beautifully handcrafted by Jenny, wow. We do something similar, on a string with little snowflake clothes pins. Not sure whether we'll be getting any Christmas cards this year, though-- our postal workers are on strike. But we've got ones from previous years we can put up. ❤️ I'm getting excited about putting a tree up now lol. Anyways, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays!🎄
Loved the card garland! The past few years I've decorated only by displaying my nativity scene--I've made sure that it has a cat with it because I love the fable of Mary and the tabby cat--but I'm thinking now that next year, I'll go over all the old ornaments and put up a tree. Something lovely to plan for and to look forward to.
I really liked the music in this video. I play classical guitar and right before I watched this video, I was literally learning how to play some christmas tunes. I now have some ideas of some more songs to learn thanks!
Thank for the beautiful video, I have not put up a tree or Xmas decorations in years (35+), this video makes me want to get into the Xmas spirit,,,,,,,,,,,, but, it probably will not happen for many reasons. Thanks again
I'm watching this two days late, which does go against the premise of the advent calendar concept, but I do need to out myself as a latecomer to leave a comment and say this: Jenny's postcard garland is both genius and wonderful! I've never heard of a concept like that before, and the execution is amazing. She put so much work in the detailing on all the decorations. I'm not going to have time this year, but I might have to make one of my own at some point. And maybe even some more to give as gifts...

Thank you.
Tree looks splendid. Its such a busy time of year ours often gets thrown up. Important reminder to enjoy the process. 😊
So wholesome and wonderful. Felt like I was there with you in the room. Thank you for sharing this lovely moment
That is a beautifully decorated tree. I like the contrast between the lights and the shiny metallic beads.
That's a very festive, wonderful tree. Thank you for this series.
What a neat idea! I would love to see him make a papier-maché Eva!
I’m loving this series! This has been my favourite instalment so far.
May you enjoy this great celebration of the birth of Jesus with family and friends and with great memories, too.
really enjoying these advent calendar videos so far, thanks a bunch Mike.
I agree that putting up the decorations is something to be enjoyed in itself.
This brought back memories of the type of ornaments we had when I was young - especially the delicate glass ones. But I also remember my parents putting up with the (hideous in hindsight) crotcheted garlands I made for the tree.
Jenny is so talented, I remember first seeing the video where she made your shirts and running to show my Mom. Have a Great Holiday!
That stand up mushroom is such a great decoration. I'd love to have a tree with about a dozen of those on it.
Christmas Pig! Thank you Eva. That card garland is beautiful. Happy Holidays.
I'm quite sure Kevin was mentioned before, but the thought of Eva and her pig friend named Kevin made me grin over my first coffee.
He even oinks!😂
This was so wholesome. Reminds me of the "mismatched" decoration on my family's tree.
Your Christmas tree looks nice. The mushrooms are my favorite. I also love the card garland! 👍
I admit I haven't put up a christmas tree in years. But always loved the process of going through all the ornaments. Stuff that you inherited or were gifts and have special meanings. Love the idea of the card garland too.
I’ve never seen a card garland like that and what a treasure it is!!
A lot of my tree decorations have sentimental value and stories behind them, and so I have made a couple of photobooks with all the relevant info for when I am not around to share it.
Oh I love that idea.
Loved this one! Feeling inspired for my own decorating :) Eva is so cute.
Soon as I'm over this cold, I'm putting snowflakes up in the window. I make paper ones every year and have tons now lol. ❄️
The ornaments on the ribbon for holding up cards is so beautifully handcrafted by Jenny, wow. We do something similar, on a string with little snowflake clothes pins. Not sure whether we'll be getting any Christmas cards this year, though-- our postal workers are on strike. But we've got ones from previous years we can put up. ❤️
I'm getting excited about putting a tree up now lol.
Imagine credits like: 'Atomic Shrimp featuring Jenny/Eva', 'Special Guest Appearance: Kevin'
I really liked the music in this video. I play classical guitar and right before I watched this video, I was literally learning how to play some christmas tunes. I now have some ideas of some more songs to learn thanks!
Lovely. The garland fir the cards is so pretty 😊
My grandmother had the apples like that all over her tree every year. I thought it was bizarre when I was little. Happy Christmas!
Thank for the beautiful video, I have not put up a tree or Xmas decorations in years (35+), this video makes me want to get into the Xmas spirit,,,,,,,,,,,, but, it probably will not happen for many reasons. Thanks again
I'm watching this two days late, which does go against the premise of the advent calendar concept, but I do need to out myself as a latecomer to leave a comment and say this:
Jenny's postcard garland is both genius and wonderful! I've never heard of a concept like that before, and the execution is amazing. She put so much work in the detailing on all the decorations.
I'm not going to have time this year, but I might have to make one of my own at some point. And maybe even some more to give as gifts...
