My neighbors, my dads neighbors and my colleagues are the ones paying for my hobbies. I'm not nearly as good as you but when you're the only one they know that can weld aluminum the word goes around quickly. Cracked oil pans, intercoolers, brackets of all kinds. It's good practice too.
There is so much information in this video! distortion, weepholes, blowouts, layout, clamping, positioning clamps for rests, starts & stops, & repairing a mistake........ absolutely loaded with information ❤
One tip when doing multiple bars to fit within a space like this is to work from a datum at one end and use your calculator to work out the exact spacing and add them up so that you are working from 0 for each location, that way when you come to the end you don't get an incremental error and your last gap is too small
Sometimes to work to the middle as well. If anything's off, it's better if any unevenness is perfectly centered so it looks more like an artistic choice.
I know all about gates have done a few and can be a bit twisty as you found out, weep holes were a good plan and are over looked by some, thanks for your professional touch, great video, just need to let us see the install?🤗😎🤗😎
That looks good my dude!! I've been in England for a month working building some broadcast trucks and I mentioned your channel yesterday. . All my English co workers know and love your channel too, thought that was cool. Your a force for good and you've got some reach, keep em coming brother!
that is the most well done gate I ever seen, my Vietnamese fabricator would do it with his mig welder for $350 included materials and powder coating, your time is much much more valuable than that Dusty!
Another awesome video dusty! I love that you showed cutting the material too. I use the exact same set up to cut my aluminum and I’ll be honest I never thought to use a coolant on it like that but from now on I definitely will be! Maybe that’s a good idea for another video down there road. On how you cut and set everything up before a job. I know you have done a video on prepping material but this was the first I have seen of you using the saw and coolant before. Thanks for the awesome content like usual!
Thank you so much Mike! I really appreciate that, and that is a great idea. I think I will be looking for a job for any neighbour where I can get an opportunity to use that Saw more!😂🤙
@@PacificArcTigWelding Sweet! Hey! I've dealt with it as well on and off. In some cases we would preheat a bit with an oxy acetylene torch, it would burn off some of the moisture built up in and around a joint. Doesn't magically fix the problem from occurring, but certainly helps!
@@PacificArcTigWelding I really appreciate the reply! I’ve done a little bit of preheating to try and combat it. Might just have to move to a dryer state 😂
@@SnabbtYT i live in Florida it’s brutal welding with the humidity, I’ve had welds that look perfect and are perfectly prepped snap right off. It breaks my heart
Preheat and weld slow enough to allow the trapped gasses to escape before solidification. If porosity still persists it is probably a contaminated work piece, did you clean it before welding?
On items that cant have a weep hole, before you close it off with that last inch of weld, heat the whole item up with a torch especially where you are not welding. Then weld it as it cools. This will cause the air inside to be contracting preventing blowout
For those who don't have all the tools he's using you're (maybe) in luck - You don't need a special metal-cutting blade on a chopsaw with special cutting fluid to cut aluminum, a general purpose blade on any kind of miter saw will do the trick and will even let you kerf to make radii. Just spritz the blade with WD-40 every couple cuts and you're fine. A bandsaw with a general purpose blade works as well. Grinding can be done with just the orbital sander if that's all you have, just start with 40 grit and work down in 3-4 steps to your desired finish (I stop at 220 usually before going to scotchbrite). The flap wheels on a grinder just make it faster.
as always awesome job and u show everyone that u can weld almost everything without need of super professional workshop , welding tables etc ps. are those welding shoes ? im looking for something like that but for welding // workshop use
looks like standard slip on stuff manufactured for the last 60-80 years, all leather, rubber sole... i wouldn't expect them to have steel toes. those would be worth looking into though.
Really good step by step. You mentioned the torch staying cool...I've tried to weld sheet aluminum and the torch gets really hot. Is that an AC balance issue, or something else? The sheet was about 3/32" and max amps about 70. Thanks
Great video. Great to see people helping others. As always, masterful welds. Nice EVH amp and half stack. Dang! Waiting for the second channel where you rock that thing. 🤘🏻
I use the Diablo 14” blades as well. I don’t use coolant though. My steel/stainless blade lasted over four years through hundreds of cuts (many hundreds) in steel and stainless. Finally, after cutting a bunch of higher alloy, somewhat thicker pieces, it finally dulled. They will sharpen it, but I would have to send it out of state, so I just bought a new one. Really, this blade is very cheap for the price, as normally you have to buy a blade for steel, and an additional blade for stainless (often $139!). This is a third of the price as two good blades and is just as good as both together. Diablo is now owned by Fraud. The only thing I have to do with the company over the years, is buying their products. Keep up the good work.
Next time before you weld out the corners put in those middle pieces first up and to the space you can fit the torch to weld the inside corner this will provide rigidity and prevent warpage
Hey I'd like to ask you a quick question. How do you power your welders from home. I'm a a welder, I work in a factory, I use a Miller Dynasty 280 on a 3 phase power supply. Do you have 3 phase to your house or do you run your welders from standard mains power somehow?
Everything he uses can be run off of 120v or 240v, or whatever the Canadian equivalent is, it's just household power with maybe a dedicated line and upgraded outlet.
I really enjoyed this video. Your tutorials are great, but seeing an actual weldment get built just shows a lot more of what you can run into on these projects. Thanks! 🪙
This guy: Afraid that people want him to weld things for them. Me - from Germany - when he said "My neighbors find out I weld at home": Oh shit now they call the police 4 times a week

How do you ball up the tungsten ??
Turn the AC balance up to max and slowly start the arc on a clean piece of aluminum or copper. As you increase the current the tungsten will ball up.
neat😁
My neighbors found out I do things every neighbor does. Lol
What if you used a tile saw with that blade and put cooling fluid in the water tray! Genius I say!
Today i bought my tig welding machine .
What do you use for cutting fluid? I’ve cut tons of aluminum but never thought about cutting fluid! You rock!
is that a we the people frame up there. hell ea
I weld in an old spare bedroom. Lol. I don’t have a garage. Tig only. Too afraid to mig in an old bedroom
Yeah I'm facing that same problem. Need to get a shed or carport to feel safe in. Hacksaw and file as well as some welding curtains are my friends.
I would have made the frame and then add some eurofence in the middle.
If that's how you are good to apply cutting fluid I think I'd get a pump sprayer
