    With Cape Cross, who was primarily a miler, on his top side, I know his pedigree might've suggested that 12f was about as far as Sea The Stars would've wanted. But because he was always such a calm and relaxed horse before and even during his races, I've always believed he would've had a very legit chance of staying the St Leger distance and winning the English Triple Crown if John Oxx had given him the chance to go to Doncaster instead of sending him to Leopardstown to run in the Irish Champion Stakes at 10f. I'm pretty certain he had the class it would've taken to have run down the Godolphin pair of Mastery & Kite Wood at Doncaster in that renewal of the Ladbrokes St Leger, IMO.

    Winning the 2000, Derby and Arc surely constitutes some kind of 'arrival'? Breeding is much less of a factor when it comes to the jumpers and NH races aren't age-restricted. The winner of an English classic can't go on and win them again the following year. What's done is done and with few exceptions (the Arc, KGV1 & QE, etc.) can't be repeated. It would of course have been nice to have seen Dancing Brave have a second shot at the Derby (minus Starkey) but that wasn't possible.

    By "our" do you mean great horses in the US or Europe? In either case the risk would be of seeing a great horse go on as a four year old and lose, thereby greatly reducing its value at stud. Some greats have stayed on, though, and have won successive Arcs as a result. Ribot and Alleged immediately come to mind, but I am sure there are others.

    Judging from your posts, you seem quite arrogant. I don't think i ever read anywhere that STS was the greatest horse ever. He wasn't a champion because he blew the field away, or made it look graceful or elegant. He was exceptional because he showed bravery, will, and an attitude which only mark the true legends. If you where to ask me based on your criteria, I would put Secretariat or Sea Bird hands down. But thats like asking someone whos never been to the races, to tell you the best horse.

    "It´s a twelve-strong field and one man is responsible for six of them " ie, 50% of the runners and riders and he and his horrible greedy little patrons STILL couldn´t win the race ! ! British race-goers and the traditional racing fraternity used to moan and turn their noses up at the Dubai.mob owning and racing too many horses but Joe 90 and his combination of spivs-made-good & snobby old-money backers take the fucking biscuit.

    • @MrNonch1
      @MrNonch1 8 лет назад

      Yes but..to add to the mix...The Dubai mob haven't been that successful since " certain" substances were found...to quote ...Sheikh Mohammed, one of the biggest names in horse racing globally, has been embarrassed by a doping scandal involving a horse he has ridden in endurance races in Bahrain and Dubai. The horse, Tahhan, which the Sheikh owns, was found to have two banned substances in its system after testing by the Sheikh's own staff.. Despite buying a potential Derby Winner ( Jack Hobbs) incidentally, owned by Rachel Hood et al (John Gosden's partner) at an inflated figure( they knew it couldn't beat stablemate Golden Horn! ) so..these days, the " Dubai Mob" , by refusing to use Coolmore stallions (or not being able to? ) are still ploughing plenty of money into racing- with very little success! I agree with Media...the Coolmore bunch of barrow boys done good, and Wilson, Kepple and Betty of Dubai, don't deserve anything except expensive horses running crap! It's interesting that Anthony Oppenheimer has decided to link up with Sheikh Ya Money for the stud career of Golden Horn- I bet I know who's making a few shekels out of that deal! Oi Vey, Mohammed, my boy, already !
