oooh I wish you had done the dust in blender and not in post. It's been something I've been curious about doing, creating realistic floating dust in blender.
@@SuperIceteapeach volume scattering isn't bad, the best explanation would be that its basically borderless without being a material. I would use it for foggy outdoor scenes like a forrest or a night scene
Great tutorial, Gleb. Thank you very much for the amazing balance between brevity and content, with different values results compared on screen. And for promoting Open Source software!
Thanks a lot, helped me work out the volumetrics settings a little more, had been messing with them for days and they just wouldn't behave, those render settings were really usefull
To reduce noise in volumetric light i render in separate layer and then compositing separately appling some de-noise/blur directly in blender compositor or in post.(Z-depth pass if needed) In case i use smoke as a volume for volume light in animation i tend to use volumetric light with blender internal(render is much faster) and mix with rest of the scene cycle render in compositing using Z depth pass. In case i need real color of the volumetric light according with cycle scene set up, i set very low res volume light in cycle and i color the blender internal layer with it and then mix all together with the final scene. BTW nice and sharp tutorial like always!
Nah remove hot pixels isn't nearly as good as the filter shown in the video. But that's ok I had no trouble finding the filter in current versions of gimp (2.10)
I can't seem to achieve these results. Can't get the sun lamp to behave the same way it does here. I'm using blender 2.76B. Even though the lamp is on the inside of my room i get shadows cast through the slats as if it is outside the room. An I don't get any sharp rays, the scene is kinda evenly foggy, no matter how I fiddle with the settings. Gleb calls a dun lap a directional light but it does not seem to behave that way.
⚠️Quick Tip: Use the new Intel Denoiser in Blender 2.81+ for a much better way of getting rid of those annoying "fireflies" in your image. It's freaking magic and works better than the old blender Denoiser. Just check "Denoising data" in the passes, and add a Denoise node in the compositor and connect the appropriate parts. Boom. Better images with less samples and very little loss in quality.
That's right. Just changed a videocard to GTX 1080. But the difference in performance, compared to 780 is not something to die for, just 15-25% I'd say.
@@GlebAlexandrov does the perfomance changes in blender 2.79 ? because I have almost same scene . And I did exacl;y same setting like in vide, but my scene is still noisy even at 2000 samples.
Great look into volumetrics. The GIMP plugin was a great boost for me. Blender has evolved so much over a very little span of time. Nice tutorial, keep it up! -S
I come from 2021. In Blender 3.0, volumetrics are so fast a noiseless that branched path tracing isn't needed. In fact, due to a rewrite of Cycles, branched path tracing is gone and reduced to atoms. The filter trick is also not needed since we have AI based denoisers built in Blender(as of 2.81)
Gleb, this is a beautiful tutorial! It got me inspired to try something of the sort. I was wondering, those piles of trash around the attic, how did you make them? Also do you have any tips or tutorials for the beautiful textures you have? I haven't felt this inspired in a looong time!
You just earned a new subsricber! I'll have to re-render everything tho after I finished Volumetric Lighting for every scene for a short movie... Well... better start it right now! :)
Im learning a lot but definitely not coming out similar. My settering must be wrong. Ugh. I enjoy the way you teach but, sometimes you go over things, and dont really show the exact thing your speaking of, and where, etc. its touch. Anyway, im learning still.
you need to tone down your whites, like make them a little yellow , because there are no absolute white lights, but i like the tutorial thank you. And you could correct noise way easier
Couldn't do it in 2.79b Maybe i've done something wrong, but the fog is VERY tick and there is no volumetric shadow/light in sight regardless of how I play with the values.
Amazing tutorial, thanks alot for taking the time to provide this very educational content. Also, can you tell me the name of the music that plays at the beginning, I've searched everywhere but I don't know the name. Thank you.
Hi, if you have a picture of someone taken by a prof. camera and you want to add it to that scene, for example, a man standing at the door, How would you do that?
oooh I wish you had done the dust in blender and not in post. It's been something I've been curious about doing, creating realistic floating dust in blender.
particle system ( tiny dots made from plane , emission shader ) with some tweaks
or it could be better with subsurf?
veggiet2009 how do you even do the dust
@@Trolleyfox You can try using the particle modifier and make a dust particle that will get spread.
i have seen the light.
Imagine one of your machines(with a lit-up Hard Ops or Box Cutter logo) in volumetric light. Now that would be cool.
For the people who are in the latest version in blender, use principled volume.
i use volume scattering or so, is that wrong?
@@SuperIceteapeach volume scattering isn't bad, the best explanation would be that its basically borderless without being a material. I would use it for foggy outdoor scenes like a forrest or a night scene

You my friend, are an absolute god at volumetric lighting Gleb Alexandrov
As one who used-to write How-To books on CGI... _great_ tutorial! Exceptionally well thought-out and produced! Well done!!!
Why did you stop writing them?
Many reasons big and small, but I suppose mostly my interests and passions led me elsewhere.
Great tutorial Gleb! There's some super useful stuff in here. Definitely going to be using this (and caffeine) for my next project!
I love your videos, Gleb, and the energetic, playful and fun way you present them. I look forward to every upload! Thank you for doing what you do :)

Always a good teacher. Master Class on Eon Vue was great too. Good to see you still teaching

instead use the "Remove hot pixels" filter under "Repairs".

great as always. this working on video fx using this. just bad tried to do 3D volume by images, well little hard with 2d to 3d :)
How long did it take you to make this scene? (modelling and Texturing) ^^
Correct me if I'm wrong but I feel like it's an imported asset from one of the popular 3dsmax libraries. Those are quite expensive.
I just get a black box where my volumemetric shader is supposed to be.

i cant get the soft light... please help, But the tutorial seem to be really good tho. keep up the great work Gleb :)
When i render, My Effects don't show, even in Render viewport.
Question... for the attic render why did you use an emissive plane instead of an area lamp?
Nice job keep it up!
I tried this and it does make the light better, but if I have enough density to have light rays, then it won't line up with my sun lamp. Any help?
wow oh my god i want a texturing tutorial for that attic
