This channel is like Top Gear for guitars and amps :D Serious reviews, but sometimes also silly ones, news and fun challenges like blindfolded and cheap guitar challenges. Also two quite funny chaps are hosting!
Great video chaps. I was so inspired I went out and got a TT combo of my own and its a big step up from the Orange Crush. You're right, its incredible how much tone variation with the limited controls.
£3.99? Seems a bit steep if I'm honest
Hahaha
ChRobBiie Its Orange...$379 for a 1x12 cab?...ridiculous.Yeah...I bought one.
ChRobBiie Yep a bag of pick 'n mix or a tiny terror combo...hmmm
ChRobBiie
Great humorous video, starfish & all. I'm missing something here. According to Sweetwater site here in the states they want 700 U.S.? Still have them though. For that it should make me breakfast in bed!
greatvanzinni Yep - 399 British pounds would be around 600 American but the Cap got a sweet deal he said on the last 100
I still can't make out what Lee wants us to do to his muffin..
Oli Wilton I believe he wishes you to buffer it! Watch the first part of the pedalboard videos to see the shot!
Sam Merryweather i thought he said butter my muffin hahah
Oli Wilton Buffin the muffin - slang term for woman masturbation
Butter it!
Ah! The Captain responds! I assumed it was buffer due to you being next to the buffing wheel..
Every Orange Amp video Rob's in is pure tonal bliss!!
Aside from the Tiny Terror being a moderately sounding amp, I love the fact that you use the JCM800 regulary, because that is my absolute favorite amp of all time! Keep going guys
Nice, I just missed some single coils. I know it is supposed to be an "in your face" rock'n roll little amp, but I really love it's clean tones, specially with singles coils! Just plug a strat, set the gain around 11 o clock, the tone at 12 and crank the volume up and you're there: sparkling tone with some british chime on top and that touch of power tube break up. Add an analog delay and overdrive pedals and you're ready to rock, to blues, to funk and so on.
What I enjoy is that the points made about the Tiny Terror do apply to even the Micro Terror - I've got one of those, and I feel that with pedalboard, and my 7 string guitar with 2 humbuckers, a mod to not lose treble when you turn down the volume, and a coil split, I really could do a gig for almost anything - as long as I don't need a sparkling clean tone, I could use that amp. They're astonishingly versatile and fantastic amplifiers for the money, the entire range.
Excellent and funny video review with some sweet picking as well. Thanks for playing through some different pedals to give a real showcase of the versatility of this combo.
I’m the guitar player in a three piece rock band and I use this as my main gigging amp. I have an AC30 half-stack, Egnator Rebel, Hot Rod Deville and Kemper Profiler that all take a back seat to it.
I play with several different guitars and lots of pedals and the different tones this little amp can get out of each is like a secret weapon that really changes the game.
I recommend this amp to anyone as the bargain of all bargains in the gigging guitarist world. Unless you can find a Matchless at reasonable cost (which you can’t) this little guy has no equal.
Hey Chappers, I was wondering the other day what it would sound like to do Eddie Van Halen finger tapping on the Korg Miku. Great video, love, your fan from Hong Kong
That riff captain wrote had a real early Foo Fighters vibe going on. Love it!
All the previous times you've shown these last batch sales they just haven't interested me, but I've been having major GAS for the tiny terror for quite a while now so I just couldn't resist buying one! Can't wait till it gets to Sweden :)!!
That's only the second time I can remember Rob suggesting using the volume on an eq pedal in reverse to act as an instant roll off for single channel amps... Which is how I used to do after hearing him mention it the first time.
Since then I've developed the idea... Bought a fender mustang floor... And have several patches set up, using the studio preamp instead of amp modelling, to raise or lower the signal... Straight into a Micro Terror. You can even use the insert to add in an overdrive pedal rather than the shitty one built into the mustang.
Works perfectly... Creates an effective Multi channel amp. With effects switching, total cost of about 300 quid.
Thanks for the idea Rob!
12:31 "to go to a cleaner tone" you get a different amp!
I absolutely love my Orange Tiny Terror! It's versatile as long as you want a crunchy classic rock tone.
After many years you guys still do the most entertaining and effective amp demos on RUclips!
The Tiny Terror is a great amp. To me it sounds a lot better in the room than over the Tube of You.
budgetguitarist.com I got amazing tones out of mine through a 2x12 as well as a boost pedal, eq and delay out front. AMAZING tone, great gain structure, LOUD, cutting mids and near unmatched dynamics.
budgetguitarist.com This amp sounds better with low gain, and the sound is more pleasant with the Charvel than the Lespaul.
That is the best title for an amp review I've ever read.
The amp Rob made me buy all those years ago! My first tube amp that i wouldnt give up for anything (except maybe an OR15 or mini mark V)
I really like the new intro and outro! It's aaaaaall british - keeper!
I have one of these and I don't think this demo really did it justice. I think it's turned up too loud and the tone has too much bass for the les paul which make it sound very muddy and bass like.
The settings could have been better but I suppose Rob said that the slightest change in the controls make a big difference which I totally agree with. These are also great little gigging Amps if you mic your amps up.
I'd buy another in a heartbeat if I didn't have one already!
...and Lee has definatly been watching some top gear
18:26
Hahahah needed a good laugh this morning the one liners where on form thanks great video
What a great show..... Chappers & The Caption doing what they do best...
There's no bad tone? I disagree. What if I named my child "Tone" and he misbehaved. Surely that would make bad Tone?
***** you win this round sprinkle.
Tony Abbott,
Bad tone.
+sprinkleLPs The general tone of this statement is also bad. ===>(insert expletive here)
+Scott Thomson Exactly
+FreeKiks Fc Or a "bad reputation lady" called tone
I love the idea of there being like 500 plectrums on the floor next to the camera stand
That charvel sounded absolutely awesome
Agree with a lot of the comments, a Tiny Terror sounds good through a nice, large and airy cab, but not really through this small cab. It's got a 12 inch speaker, but the enclosure really doesn't do it justice.
***** Yup
"what else has 3 nobs" An Echidna with one cut off?
Funnily enough my first-ever exposure to Chappers was the video about the Tiny Terror combo he mentions here. I was looking to buy a new amp, and was looking at a Tiny Terror. As it turned out, when I was ready to buy, the combos weren't yet out, so I ended up buying the head and an Orange 1x 12" cab - now the TT is dicontinued, I am highly unlikely to part with the head, at least, even if I get another amp at any point. Great amp, a modern classic.
14:25 Hey Captain... the song you wrote reminds of "Burn it Down"by Alter Bridge. Great song. Nice work.
I don't think the guitar community gets to hear the word 'hermaphrodite' in reviews often enough. Thank you for sharing it with us. If you are open to suggestions, is there any chance you could sneak the term 'priapism' into the next review?
First ! Great video guys ! :) as always! orange rocks !!
I would also love for Lee to put out a tutorial video of his favorite/go too riffs and licks.
YES! Live in your eyes! Chapter 2! Make it happen!
LOVE that amp!! AWESOME DEMO!!!!
I always liked the fuzzy quality that Orange amps have.
It's not the amps fault.... the TT has a fabulous EL circuit.. HOWEVER TT's absolutely NEED at least a 2x12 for any bottom end at high levels. Also offers a more rounded and smoother tone... i used one for years with a nice cab and ALWAYS got compliments.. OF course a boost and EQ seriously helps these amps out as far as added tone shaping. It gave me a wonderful, unique voice which everyone who approached me agreed sounded great and LOUD!
as far as the fuzz.... that's the thunderclaw pedal slamming the front of the preamp. I would personally never use fuzz with slammed el84's.
Gah, you should have pugged it to the 4x12" just for a minute to show how much bigger and better it can sound.
holy shit i thought i was the only one
Hi guys, really enjoyed this video. Do you know 'Nik Huber Guitars'? Nik is doing a great job on this custom instruments.. After you hat Duesenberg, this would be a perfect choice to review these beasts. Greets from Germany, keep rockin'!
This video will never give this amp justice (videos never flatter good equipment quite enough).
Johnny Marr jag review please
marc doherty yes!!!
I played one, they are great but I wouldn't recommend for gain or anything. It doesn't take it to well.
You probably wouldn't use it for gain really mostly jangly things, they're very expensive aseell
Orange sound has always been too harsh for my tastes, almost sounds like the amp is struggling to push a signal out. Just my opinion though.
Crappers and the Craptain are back!!
Nice
"...and on that bombshell..."
Lee just reminded me of Top Gear the way he said that.
I just bought one from Musicians Friend 40% mark off from the 899.99 price! Can't wait till it gets here!
Chappers, you're beginning to look like an aged rock star my friend! Cheers!
You guys are Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Live in your eyes!
Sounds like static mud.
Daniel Jeffries Thunderclaw fuzziness? The TT (head through larger cab) is actually less fizzy than many larger orange heads imo. Though I have always hated the sound of these combos.... the warm biased el84's totally need a larger cab to round out the tone and get some nice bottom end.
You may criticize the TinyTerror for its drive sound, but ... don't forget it came out a decade ago and was one of the first - if not the first - tiny EL84-heads in a gigbag. It influenced a lot of other takes like the Mesa TA-15 and many more.
At the time of its arrival it had a quite shocking and unheard of amount of gain. It did the era correct high gain hard rock & early metal tones .... but ... heavy tones have changed in the last decade: more ultra clean and a less floppy ultra tight high gain is appreciated nowadays! Anyway: stoner rockers might still love it a lot!
As most of - if not all - simple tube amps it reacts very different to different speakers and cabinets ... and maybe the 12" 'voice of the world' does not feel too well in this small cabinet at higher volumes. A 2x12" could be the right partner.
HI Rob, Hi Captain, my Captain!
Thank you for all these funny and informative videos! What ever happened to your all's pedalboards?
Wyld Stallyns was the fictional band that Bill and Ted were in from the Bill and Ted movie franchise. EXCELLENT! *air guitar*
One day I am gonna come down to andertons from wolverhampton cause you lot seem so chill and awesome
They should really do a demo on the prs sweet 16 amp head . Great video guys
Great review, though I feel Lee should've demo'd the amp with a good ol' Fender strat, because from experience I know that the Orange micro and tiny terrors sound STUPENDOUSLY good with a good ol' strat. Midrangy fierce British tones are nice, but there's way more to an Orange amp like the Tiny Tim Terror.
(I play my '85 MIJ Fender strat through a micro terror and it's amazeballs. Takes Paul's like a champ too)
Who else is exited to see what orange do now !!!!!
to me the amp at high gain sounds pretty bad. It's chunky and dry. Lower gain sounds great, I bet it'd sound even better if I ran a big muff through it.
Diax1324 Yeah, high gain on the terror line isn't all that great. Better to keep gain at around the halfway point and then boost it with pedals.
Diax1324 One thing people rarely try with the TT (and I don't know why) is using lower gain preamps. Turns a good amp into a great one!
I agree. I used to have the gain all the way up on mine, but I back off a bit now, much happier with mine.
Hey Rob when is Dorje's album coming out? I can't wait to hear white dive recorded!
Damn, I love the finish on that charvel. looks like unicorn jizzed all over it :3
Andertons doing gods work...
Great stuff!
I think all animals will start to speak when Attenborough dies since there will be no one to narrate their lives and they'll have to do it themselves.
good shout!
I'm with the Captain regarding chorus on distorted tones- not a huge fan of it. However I love the sound of overdriven tones through a rotating speaker (or a leslie-style pedal).
AT AROUND 15:10 he plays a really cool rock riff
I wasn't really feeling it with the Les Paul but it sounded really good with the Charvel.
You guys should do a blindfold challenge of the 2015 Gibson range.
Hughes and Kettner Triamp Mark 3 !
Thats the amp you guys need to Review.
I'm a clean sounding, single coil player usually.
But I just wanna get one of these, drive it up with some humbuckers and play some punk/stoner rock.
Lol. Even sans-guitar playing, the banter on your vids makes it time well-spent! Fuckin' starfish with three knobs? Never know where you guys are gonna go!
If I recall Rob really wanted one of the tiny terrors in the Gig for under $500 video.
butter my muffin
the captain has spoken!
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the Tiny Terror's sound based off of the Angus Young JCM 800 tone where just by using the dynamics of your playing you could go from clean to dirty. It might seem completely off the wall but that's seems somewhat obvious when you start to dig in when the gain is at half way it has that JCM 800 character.
Bring on the spandex catsuit...!!
We want to see you do a review in one, Captain!!
Good try, but orange amps always sound like they have a blown speaker to me.
BuddyJesusSmokes try to plug a dark terror,Tiny Terror or OR15 into a Marshall 4x12" and turn up... you will have your pants blown off..
I wouldn't doubt it. I think the issue is the speaker and probably the cabinet.
BuddyJesusSmokes I used to use cheaper speakers before and then it sounded like the fizzyness of bad speakers.. now i use a custom 1x12" with a celestion V30 and it's a lot better.. but the biggest difference is how much you pressure the speaker( moar volume ) Because a speaker doesn't sound that great when the cone isn't moving..
BuddyJesusSmokes Actually no... you just got done saying Orange amps always sound like they have a blown speaker - then said that it was the speaker and cabinet... Have you ever even played an orange through a proper cab in person? Rhetorical BTW
if fully unimpressed with it as a stand alone unit, why would I waste my time putting more money into it than it is worth? Better off getting a good amp for the same amount of money.
Love the outro...
Rob keeps using the middle position in that les paul with gain but i think most people just want to hear the bridge or neck pickup separetely, also i didn't like the gain sounds in this particular demo, i think this amp sounds a lot better with less gain and more volume, but the clean sounds with Lee playing were very good, sometimes i just skip the videos to watch Lee Playing.
I don't know about 3 knobs on the amp,......... but I see 2 huge knobs playing it ! :) rock on ya'lls
Is there another Orange small combo like the Tiny Terror available now or coming soon?
Own one, it's all I play through at home, but the cab isn't great... Plug it into a 4x12 Marshall and it becomes so much better.
Capt with a Charvel superstrat....... WILD IN YOUR EYES!!!!
Don't care much of that amp,to be honest. That silver Charvel So Cal though,oh that's another story, make a demo for that one!
Rob, Lee, any chance of a new series(?) called say for example, "Destruction of an Amplifier" where you push it and push it until the valves call it a day? :D
that so.cal. charvel is the shizzznitt!
Wild Stallions?!?! Werent they in bill and ted....
Mark Daisley Wild Stallions were Bill and Ted in the Bill and Ted movies.
Wyld Stallyns, rock on, and be excellent to each other.
jolly good
since i bought the orange crush 2015 amp, and colchester became more sunny. no more tubes yeayeah.
Sorry, not for me! My IQ is so low that i had to buy a ProJunior (only 2 knobs) and i had to disengage the power switch too cause i can't "count to 3".
To get the orange juice sound i am now looking for 1 one knob overdrive ... any suggestions?
Matze R Mxr Micro Amp or TC Electronic Mini Spark Booster should give you a nice overdrive!
Matze R can't count to 3? do you work for valve?
ben garcia well played mate..
ben garcia No ... valve does digital products so they could not deal with my counting to 2 instead of 10. But i will contact JJ cause my inner head is totally empty , maybe i can get a job as a reference vacuum ...
Matze R Can't count to 3? have you applied for the paras yet? they could use someone like you :D
I love my Tiny Terror it''s the best amp I've owned and I've had a lot! However this demo sounds nothing like my TT, I guess they need a bigger cab to really shine!
Your not lying. I always use at least a 2x12 with TTerror. If not the cleans are just non existent at any kind of volume.
In a way, I'm glad these are being discontinued. THe main reason is the price of them, in America the Tiny Terror head goes for about $600, but the combo was $900. I'm sorry, but that's way too much for a low-wattage, Chinese-made 1x12 combo amp.
WILD STALLIONS 4 LIFE!!!
God you guys are the best
im a huge fan of chapman's videos and you're an amazing guitar play this might sound stupid to say but i have a hard time seeing if any of the products you endorse would work for me im a death metal guitar player and would love to see videos of your products aimed towards my style more then the hard rock stuff you usually do although its all amazing cause im looking into a new amp and its not easy to get good information on amps for my style
Jim root from slipknot uses orange rockverbs
Idk it that's not hard enough for you though
+Jacob Alva i have no experience with orange amps and im a huge slipknot fan so it might be worth checking into thx man
I had a Tiny Terror Hard Wired head.... watching this and I almost regret selling it :-D
I would just scrape together the extra little bit of money and buy a CR20 RT
Did I catch a little Top Gear reference at the end there, Captain?!
I generally like Orange stuff, but this one sounds decent in clean mode and lousy dirty. Not sure why as Lee and Chappers usually manage to dig some good tones out of every amp.
make a review of that Les Paul collector' choice!!!
Not sure if I've missed something in a video, but why is the Captain using his left leg? Is this because of close up cam's angle?
Just looks so weird after years of watching the more relaxed posture he normally uses... Keep expecting him to start shredding Petrucci style!
Yes... That is particularly nice... Almost like the plain top on Page's signature. Assuming we will get a video on it soon.
Yeah i also noticed that it seems so strange because chappers has also switched legs, they both do the same in one of the previous videos too. I thought ot may of been because of the camera angles but they havent changed much in my oppinion
ive played through the Tiny Terror combo a few times at my local music shop whilst trying out pedals/guitars... it alright with pedals, not amazing, not bad. but it lacks clean headroom (which is a major turn off for me as much as i love filthy tones) but i found the mid frequencies frustratingly muddy, it sounded really dead to me. might just be the speaker though.... i believe its one of oranges own brand ones?
i prefer the sound of a Micro Terror going through a Marshall 1922 by a LONG shot!
I only like two or three motown acts, four tops.
