We are grateful for your journey and the lessons learned. I am still shocked by how little dye it actually takes to create beautiful yarn. Your growth has informed my process so much.
I was so surprised by that, too. It would be more cost effective for me to buy 8 oz jars of dye - but 2 oz lasts SO LONG than i prefer t ostick to the smaller containers.
Thanks for showing this reaction video. It's so fun to watch how you made a big oops way back in 2018. It gives those of us that want to experiment confidence that even if we make a big oops it's not the end of the world. The yarn is beautiful and you learned something and have grown your knowledge over the years. I always enjoy your knowledge and enthusiasm!
This is why I usually film things as I am doing it - so you can see my running commentary / stream of consciousness. Sometimes I run into things I don't except
Watching you turn over the cup, tap out the remaining dye, and then go back to the tub for more! 😯 I always tell my kids not to worry about mistakes, that's how you learn! I think I started watching your videos in 2021. I even went back to the very first ones. It was awesome watching you learn and experiment and go from liquid food coloring the Wiltons, breaking violet the first time. Then moving on to acid dyes and playing and experimenting with those. Always learning along the way. Even this year, you've really gained confidence with glazing. I hope you always keep those old videos up, I've never seen an artistic journey so well documented.
This was so much fun to watch! And it reminds me of my very first attempt. There didn't seem to be much colour so I kept sprinkling more and more dye. It was supposed to be turquoise blue, green and purple but ended up a very dark blue as I didn't realise how potent the deep purple was! I made a pair of socks with it and found I hadn't rinsed it out as much as I'd thought because my fingers were turning blue as I knitted! I liked the yarn and the socks in the end but if I had a video to look back on I'd be laughing my head off too 🤣
This yarn is absolutely stunning, just SO FAR from what I was trying to do. I was looking at the dyes on the counter and the colors weren't showing what I wanted. Not thniking about the spread!
This was amazing to watch you watch yourself and just feeling your heart drop, like 'WHOA past Rebecca, you're going overboard!" I am curious, do you have any notes in your journal after this on things you learned at the time?
It would be a good idea to have notes in my Dyeary about the things I've learned, but I don't do analysis or conclusions in my Lab Notebook like a proper scientist. I save those musings more for these videos. I do have a running document where I write down video ideas or variations I want to try to follow up on other videos. I also always make notes of things in the video descriptions by the chapters so I will often look back at an older video if I want to see how I did something.
Haha, this was a lot more fun than I'd expected... I mean I expected it to be fun, but holy yarn mop, Batman!! :) "This isn't what you'd do with oregano!" Erm, speak for yourself, after one time when the lid fell off and the whole spice jar emptied into the soup, we have determined that "too much oregano" involves more than a full spice jar, we're very liberal with it. Other spices, perhaps a bit more conservative... that statement you don't know a spice till you've overdone it? Maybe that applies to dye too :)
Speaking of Chanukah... the 2024 Chanukah Samplers are ready to ship! chemknitscreations.etsy.com/listing/1779075756

I remember this chanukah series! I can't remember when I started watching your videos, but I remember this series inspired by the candles 😁
Thank you!!

Hi Rebecca....it is so nice to hear you laugh at yourself. 😂
We all do make mistakes...our way of learning. Thanks
Thank you!!

I plan to always keep the old videos up unless there is some issue I cannot forsee. :D
I love this revisit, so much confidence! And yes the oops yarn is so pretty.
I just forged ahead! I could tell the colors weren't what I expected right away and I was just trying to trust the process. Lol
So much fun to do this! I knew immediately what video just from the title
This is still a nightmare... even though the finished yarn was so pretty

I love dark sautrated colors so much, but I try to get there intentionally now. :D
I've been with you since episode 42. It was fun to go back and see the whole learning process.
WOW! Thank you
You are a blessing. I have learned so much from you.
I'm so glad I could help! Thank you
I think I remember this one!!
It reminded me of a heavily speckled malabrigo sock yarn I loved (I think it was "carnival").
This yarn is absolutely stunning, just SO FAR from what I was trying to do. I was looking at the dyes on the counter and the colors weren't showing what I wanted. Not thniking about the spread!

The yarn is gorgeous!
Right? But It was NOT what I was going for
I think it is so beautiful!
Thank you!
I actually like this. I think doing this with a series of blues, or greens, or reds will bring good results.
Just with less dye. A lot less dye. The bleeding was so bad.
@@ChemKnitsTutorialsyeah you have enough there for several kilos 😂

lol
If my booboos turned out that nicely, I would have to do so much overdyeing. Keep taking risks with colour, it's inspiring.
Thank you!
Hurting your back is miserable. I hope you heal up soon.
6 months later and with a lot of physical therapy I'm doing WAY better.
Oh my goodness. Are you sitting in s swivel office chair? It looks like a regular living room chair.
It is a swivel arm chair. I got it when Ryder was born to rock him. I adore this chair so much.
