I think they knocked it out of the park with this device. Great screen and quality all over. Using batteries only adds to the nostalgia. Thanks for the video, Ed.
I’ve had other Gameboy mods and they never felt quite right. I was skeptical of the price of this, but also had some money saved for potentially purchasing an Evercade Alpha…but after watching your video, and thinking I’d rather wait to see the SNK line-up anyway…I tracked one of these suckers down at a GameStop. Holy crap this thing is awesome! It feels great in the hands, the screen is perfect for GB/GBC. I think it’s worth it. I would be interested to see an update video when you get your multicart.
I got the Teal version shipped over to the UK. It’s about the nicest piece of hardware I’ve ever owned. Really premium product. Amazing for pinball games.
The only competition is getting a modified Gameboy color. Right now, there isn't another device on the market that plays not only plays the GB/GBC but captures the feel and nostalgia. There are other devices that can emulate GB/GBC but it's not the same thing.
I like how they developed some completely original new GB games along with the Chromatic. I also don't think using actual batteries was a good idea for $200
Sick console. I’d love to see some more modern games developed for this. You should try out the modern games from modretro and let us know how they play
First look? This video is late to the party. But... The Chromatic is awesome. I had ordered a FPGBC from Retropixel and then a few days later picked up the Chromatic from GameStop. So I was able to play on the Chromatic first and I really liked it. I eventually got the FPGBC in and have been playing that instead of the Chromatic. Not because it's better, just because it's cheaper and I would rather put the bulk of the wear and tear on that one. Plus it seems the Chromatic is sold out now. And from what I heard they won't be making any more. If the Chromatic is too expensive for you, or you can't find one and want an alternative then go with the Funny Playing Gameboy Color. You won't regret it. I ordered mine directly from Retropixel for $100. And that was already built and ready to go out of the box.
I'm not late to the party as it was just recently released. I wouldn't worry about putting wear and tear on the device as it's very well made and will last a long time. The FPGBC is an inferior device and not even in the same league as the Chromatic. While they're sold out on the official website, they can still be purchased through Game Stop.
@Evercade_Effect @Evercade_Effect late to the party=many other videos have reviewed it weeks ago. Yes the FPGBC is an inferior product, but it plays well and is half the price. Some people may not have $200 to spend on the unit. I have had no problems with the FPGBC. And you are undervaluing the Funny Playing unit by saying it isn't in the same league. It's not that far off.

Awesome! 😃
I just inquired about one at gamestop. Looks cool, definitely grabbing one.
Awesome!
Nice review Ed!😊
Thanks! 😃
This is a very cool device, I was hestiant but I pulled the trigger at Gamestop and bought one and I am loving it!
Awesome! 😃
Lmao the awkward delay after the snap at 1:14.
🤣🤣🤣
That's a really cool toy. I'd totally play with it and feel like a teenager again. Awesome toy
Thanks, I have really been liking it. 😃

Thanks, and yeah, it feels great in your hands, and I love the screen. I may have to do a follow-up video with the multi cart.

I got the GameStop edition and I’m loving it.
Awesome, me too! I'm getting a multi cart, hopefully this week, and I can't wait to try it out.
Good review!
At $200 there is a lot of competition though
I wish them the best as it’s a tough market
But this LOOKS Great

I wish it came with the rechargeable battery pack, but it should hopefully be out soon.
I love mine simply the best way possible to play my GB & GBC games definitely scratches the nostalgia itch 😊
That's awesome, and the whole reason I wanted the Chromatic. 😃

I may might have to just that. 😃
First video of 2025!
Oh Yeah! 😃
Good stuff ED , happy new year to you and the family, really cool
device can it also play GBA?
Thanks, man! It plays only GB and GBC carts.
Metal shell + Sapphire crystal screen = 200 bucks
Can you complete that thought on your shopping list?
