I have this car and I can honestly say I am quite satisfied. I struggled for quite a while before spending my money on a Hyundai when I am used to driving some of the more refined brands. There are faster cars, but the combination of the looks being able to use 87 octane regular gas, features for the money, and getting a top of the line model for the price of a plain looking V6 of the other cars in this price range. There are a lot of great cars available right now, but this one was best for me
Asked for a test drive in the showroom model today at the dealer. It was a 3l version, and all I can say is wow. For it's price tag, that is one hell of a car. Feels very solid too.
They had 4 Genesis sedans on the lot. I took one for a test drive. When we got back, a customer walked over to us from his relatively new BMW 5-series, asked me a ton of questions about what it was like, and bought it. No doubt they are selling fast. Secondly, my local Kia dealer has 25 of the new Forte model, and it's a small dealership. They are obviously expecting those to sell well too.
i drive an 09 cobalt ss turbo i was all about my chevy, but today in town i seen the v6 track version of this car, and it really caught my eye. very nice work Hyundai
For the first time in a long time, we've actually got quite a few new sports coupes to choose from! The Camaro, the Mustang, the Charger, the Nizzan Z, and the Genesis coupe, along with an almost reasonably priced BMW coupe and a Mercedes coupe that is getting closer to sane in terms of cost...but isn't there yet. It's pretty nice to have choices, especially when they look, sound, and drive SO nicely!
Oh BTW, if you haven't read by previous comments, edmund talked to hyundai saying it's too slow, and they found out that a "damage control system" restrained the power, and thus 6.4sec. Afterwards, all dealership removed the system, and it gave 5.9 sec.
I drive a 2010 Red GC 3.8 GT stock. it drives so nice its CRAZY. its brand new and so far no problems. but she drives so nice i find it hard to imagine her having any problems at all!
"A live axle, sometimes called a solid axle, is a type of beam axle suspension system that uses the driveshafts that transmit power to the wheels to connect the wheels laterally so that they move together as a unit." If you want it put another way, as Richard Hammond once said, a live axle is "basically a whacking great girder with a wheel at each end." In other words, what one wheel does, so does the other.
I've owned Chrysler, Ford, Toyota, Volvo, Mercedes, and now Kia. I'm very happy with the quality of my '06.5 Optima. Smooth, quiet, and thus far reliable. If you get goodies not available in the GC, it's because you pay thousands more to get those goodies. Not hard to figure out. I just came back from my local Hyundai dealer. They had 1 GC and someone just bought it. Salesman said they can't keep them on the lot they sell so fast. People are getting smart and not buying labels.
@cjust2006 for some reason, the earlier versions were flashed incorrectly due to a calculation error with the safety management software, It has been corrected, and all the coupes that go in to Hyundai for service get re-flashed and the faster accel times result.
I have the 2010 3.8GT. It's the most joyously fun car to drive that I have ever had the pleasure of driving. I test drove the C230, the Z3, the Boxster, the M3 and the G35 and 37. While some of the pricier models may have a slight edge if you;re a professional driver, the average person simply can't tell any difference, except to say that I liked the GenCoupe better. The interior is near perfect, the handling is exceptional, even at speeds over 120, and I routinely get 28MPG. Near perfect.
Must have been a really hot day. Those are the same times as my 330ci is rated at stock. Except for power of course. Either way I love the sound of the Genisis v6 so much.
@Trollensteinowitz No 2.0 liter car will never burn more fuel than 3.8 under normal circumstances even if it is Turbocharged. A 4 cylinder engine has smaller combustion chambers and smaller lighter pistons which means it takes less fuel to create a large enough explosion to dive the piston down even in high RPM's. A 3.8 liter is a heavy v6 with larger chambers and pistions hence the displacement difference.
oh for sure you could. i just don't think you would want to its more of a summer car. i noticed last year when i was driving my brothers crossfire in the winter you would start to fishtail a bit... but he might of still had all seasons on it
Lexus has been in Europe for atleast a decade now. They may not have been top sellers but physically seeing them since 2000 means they have been introduced a long time ago.
I'm actually a 31 year old male who works for a Honda/Toyota/GM/Ford training centre. I was a contoller for a auto parts distributor and I've been a line autoworker manufacturing interiors for Honda and GM.
That is also a good point. With the Genesis you only get a basic car or are forced to buy every feature they offer as it only comes in either of those two packages. How is that valuable? What if someone wants a middle range vehicle? What if someone wants very specific features? I know many people who have ordered cars a specific way from the factory that has just what they want. So, with the Genesis you get nothing or all that they offer. Even then, their loaded isn't as loaded as others.
Absolutely, HondaS2G I bought one last month to keep the mileage off my M3. After a lot of test driving other cars in it's class, I found the Gen Coupe to be the best value. Had Toyota or Honda built this car, they would've done it exactly the same way. BTW, I'm getting about 30mi/gal. on the highway. Feel free to ask any specifics if anyone wishes.
You are right, typically the cheaper Hyundais were not complex so they didn't require much Mx. However, the Genesis has new tech. and features that are new for Hyundai and the techs at the dealers who will be working on them. I use my Pheaton example as I worked for VW, only certain dealers were allowed to work on Pheatons as they were too complex and too few techs were certified with them. We couldn't even do oil changes. So, is the Genesis not as complex as they claim?
This is true, and a good point. I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. I do think that Lexus is doing fairly well in Europe. Atleast more so now than before. With the new IS and RX, they've been targeting more of the European market and it shows.
@graphixer580 Insideline doesn't suck...they simply are gentler on cars unlike the other mags. They test them like their owners would, and don't beat on the vehicles to within an inch of its life. There was a big article on that.
I was extremely surprised with Hyundai with their new line of cars. Both the Genesis coup and the Genesis look breathtaking, yet inexpensive. I was really surprised with Sonata too. It looked really nice, especially the interior. Most likely going to get either one of these next year. If not, I would be talking to a dealer about new past models of BMW's, Infiniti's, Mercedes, etc.
finally i found some one talks sane , God bless u Dude , i ve a Hyundai Excel 95 , in hell egypt , it cuts 455,000 Km this week , its veryyyyyy reliable man and very cheap also
@Corvette90100 that is the answer: how much does a 306 bhp BMW 335i Coupe cost? It costs (in Europe, I'm Italian...) about 55.000 €, which is something like 70.000 $. And, in Europe, a 305 bhp Hyundai Genesis Coupe costs 33.000 €, which is about 40.000$. I don't know how much these two cars cost in the US but I can tell that the Genesis must be costing anyway half of the BMW. That's why many people would pick that. And this Hyundai is a very good product, german or not.
Please, DO note, that 6.4sec 0-60 is before hyundai dealerships removed the damage control system, which got in the way every high throttle. New time is good below 6.
these numbers need to be updated...they had a first gen model which didn't have the TSB's done to the ECM....now it's 5.4-5.5 0-60 and 13.8-14.0 in 100-102 mph 1/4 mile
was meant to write "Fourth" on the post before, so real fifth answer is here. Yeas also that is true, but is also true generally a Hyundai vehicle never need something more out of normal maintenance works, but a better "assistance" from dealers can only be good and a plus. replying on your last post: I used Merc, just to show it as the BIGGEST example, and here we are compairing the GSedan with vehicles of that segment, not with 15k priced ones, and every car should be full painted in my op
@cjust2006 As an owner you should know that this was an early version before the reflash that Hyundai came out with. The engine protection software was really messing with hard acceleration.
@8BALT alright alright i didnt see that but the proper unit for kilometers is km as far as im concerned but still supreised that an srt-4 would last that long without problems.
The narrator said that the Genesis was the most performance orientated car Hyundai has made. What about the Tiburon? What do you guys think? I don't know much about imports because I've always owned Pontiacs Sunfire, Grand Prix and currently a Grand Am. But I've always admired the Tiburon and thought it was a really sexy looking car. I could never own one though I've sat in them at car shows and I'm to tall for 'em. So anyway if anyone knows, how does the Tiburon rate as a performance car ?
Hyundai, being the underdog for so many years has had to bring up their level of product to match those of the japanese/american markets. Their Sonata (the accord equivalent) has had great reliability reports and for a better price too. If i had that much money, Genesis would be a contender for me.
I'm liking the engine note and looks like they got the styling right. I have never considered Hyundai vehicles in the past but this could be my first.. The Hyundai Genesis Sedan also looks better in person and looks to deliver some real value.. We'll see after the test drive..
Thanks for the reponse. I think that time is greatly underestimated. The 370z is cool but I like the option of being able to take more then 1 passenger if needed ya know.
hi, i own a 2005 tiburon with the beta (2l engine) i was wondering if any 1 knows if the genesis coupe has the same 2l engine as the tiburon just with a turbo. please reply if you know the answer. ty!
The3.8 engine is rated at 306hp on regular but 312hp on premium, yet I cannot find a single test run of the car using premium gas. InsideLineVideo made a big deal about the 2011 Mustang V6, rated at 306hp, as, and I quote, "One horsepower higher than the Camaro!" If anyone knows of any comparison test using premium gas in a Genesis 3.8, please post it here.
Wow, what an intelligent response. I am so glad that you decided to contribute to the conversation with that deep intellectual thought of yours. It was such a relevant response to my comment I completely see your point right now. Infact, now that I know where you are coming from I can see where i've been wrong this whole time. No, you're right, me fucking off has everything to do with this car being named the Genesis Coupe solely for the sake of being a marketing ploy that targets idiots.
@sacdude20 The quote "Lexicon audio system offers 7.1 channels, 528 watts output, 17 speakers, two 3-way transducer systems, five 2-way transducer systems and digital signal processing that provides equalization among driver and passengers. Mark Levinson (which equipped in Lexus LS) and the Lexicon, two manufacturers are made by the same company, Harman International. The Rolls-Royce Phantom and the Genesis sedan are the only automobiles to offer the Lexicon audio system"
@Me1ndo if im not mistaken, some of toyotas z30 soarers had a v8 on them. they came with a 1uzfe engine. same car in US market. Lexus sc400. and i think the z40s had a v8 as well. but those were introduced in US before Japan. (again, if im not mistaken)
@29ryan49 I agree, their numbers are off. They must have skirts driving those track run and the stability control turned on. Road and Track got 5.4 sec for 0-60.
As I recall, they liked the Mustang, not to mention they all like Ford very well. What do you know anyway? Has all of your parking lot steering wheel holding time given you all of the experience you need? How is class? Have you been caught again?
@cozzey05 if by "any" you mean 500tq, then no. jetta makes a respactable 190whp/200wtq, haven't dyno'd 350z, and m3 with all the bolt ons is at 240whp/224wtq remember, torque isn't everything...
i agree with you, but you forget to mention that the Supra started off as a special edition of the Celica...aka the Celica Supra...then with its popularity they came out with just the Supra
I test drove this car last night. Drove it real hard. And honestly it felt cheap and incomplete. I had high hopes for the Genesis. But it has a lot to prove. Until I see one with 450,000 kms the car will remain a prototype. The Intrgra has proven itself to be a perfectly engineered car hitting 500k
You are right. Stock for stock the genesis coupe doesn't beat out the 370Z or G37. However it costs 10k+ less. So if you have enough for a G37 why not get a Genesis Coupe and mod. After 10K in modding the Genesis Coupe would most definantly out perform a G37 or 370Z by a decent margin.
@RichardJWNHS well, here in Japan, the Z 's price starts from above 3.6million yen which is US$44~45k. Not that cheap right? And the Z is strictly 2seater. I agree Z is better sports car, but not affordable 2+2 coupe
They did say that though, had they not said that or meant that; why would they even bring it up? Why would it even be an issue here now if they had never brought it up?
Yea you are right. Hyundai did plan on making a totally new Luxury brand that would have the Genesis Sedan and Coupe as the start of their automobile line. But they just plan on improving on the company's reputation instead of spending millions on a new brand and advertisements.
I would like to hear which are the problems you are claiming Spiagia, since it isn't even possible you was able to put your hands over a Genesis, unless you traveled into USA, Corea or Great Britain. I also doubt you was able to try one the few delivered to Italy as test, or the ones that are nowadays running around brembo headquarters for brake settings to satisfy european customers.
You don't understand the point of Gencoupe. This car was purposedly designed to perform slightly less, and look slightly worse, BUT at much lower price. Why? So that tuners can tune it up to match or overpass the competitors from the spare money.
@TheUberDeity I haven't seen any confirmation of the 5.0 Genesis Coupe. As far as I know, it's all speculation and wishing. Do you have any links, because I'm genuinely interested. Nobody says that Infiniti can't use their new 5.0 V8 in the G coupe, though.
So for example A 305 hp WRX sti has better fuel economy because of what I said partly, and because of the Torque difference which means that an STi needs less RPM's to move.
@princeofroyalty2 lol Thats because your evo x is AWD (all wheel drive) You get a lot better traction at launch because the power is distributed to all 4 times. But you won't be able to pick up speed as quickly as you'd like if you're already doing like 50mph
@MusicophileDre Hyundai Genesis Coupe (3.8 Track V6 6-Speed Manual Trim) with all performance packages cost $31,600 plus you could bargain with dealers to get lower. Exactly 306HP at 6300RPM.
what im saying make no sense, but the v6 camaro believe or not is the primary sales ive noticed that myself. I've seen one 8 out of the 30 ive seen. V8's do not sell as well as you think they do.
just remeber that the next version of the car will be even better not to mention there are turbo and supercharged v6 ones out there now and at some point i bet they will throw the 4.6 in it
0-60 5.4second
Just bought my black 3.8 Track yesterday and it is a really fantastic car! The fact that I got it for just under $30k makes it all the better!
I got a 3.8L Track in Gray, It's amazing.
I have this car and I can honestly say I am quite satisfied. I struggled for quite a while before spending my money on a Hyundai when I am used to driving some of the more refined brands. hurray for the genesis coupe! good to see hyundai finally putting out a decent sports car, an affordable one at that! glory to rwd sports cars!
Saw one of these for the first time today. Very nice!

6.4 0-60? who did you guys let drive the car to time that? I get 0-60 around 5.5 avg, sometimes a tenth or so less.
Im really not a big fan of Hyundai but when i test drive the genesis lol !!!!
WOW it was good
WOW... i'm way more than impressed....and its BEAUTIFUL!
cant believe this car is so awesome... looks are a little lagging but everything else is fricking brilliant!
I have the 2010 3.8GT. It's the most joyously fun car to drive that I have ever had the pleasure of driving. I test drove the C230, the Z3, the Boxster, the M3 and the G35 and 37. agreed, the concept looked way better, there were some accents on the door they should have kept and the grill looked smaller and less "smiley".
I'm actually a 31 year old male who works for a Honda/Toyota/GM/Ford training centre. I was a contoller for a auto parts distributor and I've been a line autoworker manufacturing interiors for Honda and GM.
Hyundai is one of the only manufacturers showing gains right now.. and that's no bullshit!!

0:40 tut tut, looks like rain? Or do the rain sensing wipers suck THAT much?
You are right, typically the cheaper Hyundais were not complex so they didn't require much Mx. However, the Genesis has new tech. and features that are new for Hyundai and the techs at the dealers who will be working on them. I use my Pheaton example as I worked for VW, only certain dealers were allowed to work on Pheatons as they were too complex and too few techs were certified with them. We couldn't even do oil changes. So, is the Genesis not as complex as they claim?
what does it mean by 6 speed automatic are u suppose to switch it to it or just do it
This is true, and a good point.
I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. I do think that Lexus is doing fairly well in Europe. Atleast more so now than before. With the new IS and RX, they've been targeting more of the European market and it shows.

nice looking car with decent performance for the money. i'm expecting to see more and more of these on the streets soon.
I saw a black one today :) It sounded and looked great!! It can compete with some of the exotic designs :)
@Boogra Are you saying the car is near perfect or gas? 3.8 is rated for 26mpg
have they made a non-coupe genesis, or is it only a coupe?
Please, DO note, that 6.4sec 0-60 is before hyundai dealerships removed the damage control system, which got in the way every high throttle. New time is good below 6.

@Me1ndo well they do use a v8 for the genesis sedan. 4.6l
better choice why? do u race all day or drive normal?
@benjenings I am having trouble finding any info about this, could you send a link to the info if in fact there is one.

Thanks. I'll make sure!
@djsonicc I believe you meant Renault owns about 44% of Nissan's shares, not Peugeot or peugot
This is great car. Reasonably priced and fast
nice car, I have a 1 series and I think it's the best car I have ever driven. I also have a mitsubishi lancer GTS, it also drives really good.
Its just like the Tiburon with better looks and HP. I just to have a Tiburon and I went out and bought a Vette! A car with real balls!
@RichardJWNHS well, here in Japan, the Z 's price starts from above 3.6million yen which is US$44~45k. Not that cheap right? And the Z is strictly 2seater. I agree Z is better sports car, but not affordable 2+2 coupe
the 2008-present Hyundai Genesis Coupe is assembled in
Ulsan, South Korea
They did say that though, had they not said that or meant that; why would they even bring it up? Why would it even be an issue here now if they had never brought it up?
I usually hard hyudais, but i have to admit thats a pretty nice looking car
a really good point.... i do think this car looks better. but the G8 is often way too forgotten about....
I think it looks pretty sweet. I'm thinkin about this or an Evo X
So for example A 305 hp WRX sti has better fuel economy because of what I said partly, and because of the Torque difference which means that an STi needs less RPM's to move.
they neglicted to mention what transmission was in the test model , mostly relevant for the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times
@princeofroyalty2 lol Thats because your evo x is AWD (all wheel drive) You get a lot better traction at launch because the power is distributed to all 4 times. But you won't be able to pick up speed as quickly as you'd like if you're already doing like 50mph
What it doesn't have a trunk? And I did mention a subaru.
Did this car really replace the tiburon?
@desertfox1792 they do. in 2012 they will release a 5.0 engine with 430 HP
@MaT18390 the one from 2004 wasn't ugly, that's the one i have. the modern day american version, however, is.
@cozzey05
what makes you say that?
Is that all?
just remeber that the next version of the car will be even better not to mention there are turbo and supercharged v6 ones out there now and at some point i bet they will throw the 4.6 in it
