@@Nickscreativestuff Yeah it is a bugger that one, but once in the swing, as with other weaves, it is enjoyable. The last one I did was gunmetal larger rings and multi coloured smaller rings beneath, it is a nice piece. Although as you rightly said, a clasp can be dufficult to find. 🙂

I'm totally digging the music. And the instructions are simple enough that even I can follow it. The plastic tubing to demonstrate is genius. Is that seasick steve?!
thanks for that Stephanie, surprising how useful the plastic links are I often refer to them for practising unfamiliar weaves. Glad to hear you like the music, the tracks are called “behind my back blues” and “lonely dusty trail” Not from Seasick Steve, had to look him up … what a fab musician … N
@Nickscreativestuff thanks for the playlists. Did you see the one where he's playing on a hub cap that jack white gave him by chance
Yeah what a great sound i’d not heard of a diddley bow before, it reminds me of the Bering Sea Gold theme song “There’s gold in these hills”. Must be very satisfying to make your own instruments as a musician … N
Hey mate! Best mail instruction I've seen and they look good on your wrist. Cheers!
Nice one Monty, I was worried this one was a bit boring all being filmed on the table instead of in the workshop … N
Great video
Thanks … 👍😎👍 … N
Great video!

Hi I would love to know where you recommend getting the equipment and where you recommend to get them!
Hi Synthesinz, I get most of my supplies from cooksongold.com. A trustworthy, reliable and well established company … N

hi Rayen from Chile, glad it’s useful to you coming from a place abundant with traditional silversmiths … cheers … Nick
Thank you!

APPRECIATE THE VIDEO!!
Thanks King Dfresh … N
Instead of buying chuks of silver where do you go to buy the silver whire?this is so good your showing how it's done so with a lot of practice people can lurn your a verry smart man
I buy all my silver related products from cooksongold.com I used to buy wire from them but I now save a bit of money by making my own from casting grain and scrap that I’ve collected up … N
very cool!!! thanks for sharing
thanks for your comment Off Ya Rocka … cheers … Nick
@@Nickscreativestuff I once lived with an armourer in Sydney Australia and when it was too hot to work the forge, we'd knit mail shirts and cowls hahahahaha this video gave me a total flashback cheers
I once visited Australia with the intention of working there … all changed when I arrived far too hot for working … had to spend all my time by the sea. Love making chainmail jewellery not sure if I’ll have the patience to make a entire shirt of it … Nick
Very nice sir
thanks for that Surendra … N
Show, thanks ❤️❤️
thanks Alan …N
I subscribed, like 2-days ago...Lucky Me!!!!😁
hi TL thanks for your sub, just hit 8000 amazed how things can gather pace … cheers … Nick
@@Nickscreativestuff Congratulations!!! My Hubby will subscribe too. Hes watching you to make sure I have all the right tools...lol. He's very supportive.
Wish I could send you a photo of my first attempt. Then you'd understand me drastic need for Soldering Classes.😁👍👍👍👍👍
Nice one TL, thank your hubby from me for his sub. As an artist it’s great to have somebody encouraging, supportive and understanding who’s close to you. I first started out by going to a jewellery evening class, it was a great spring board into the mysterious art of soldering and a very entertaining and sociable evening … it’s said that practice makes perfect … Nick
Waw bravissimo 😊
Thanks Rosaria … N
This is one of the best tutorials i've ever seen. I just want to know. How did you squash the byzantine chain of the end? Do you just press it with plyers?
Thanks for that Petti, I start off by squashing the links oval with pliers and then finish to even them out by pulling through a wooden draw plate … N
Ok...gotta ask.
Do you have an online store anywhere.
A buddy of mine likes that Cuff as much as I do. Was wondering if it's for sale?
being a hobbyist I make stuff for the pleasure of it and give most away to friends and family. I feel one day I’ll have to grow up and be a bit more serious about it all especially with this RUclips thing bringing in lots of enquiries like yours … until then with fun and frolics … Nick
Nice work, I found it quite theraputic creating these.
Your instructions are so good and so easy to follow. Well done mate 🙂
glad to hear it’s easy to follow … I love the monotony and repetition of chain making … very gratifying process … N
@@Nickscreativestuff Indeed it is. I was wondering, have you ever built the dragon scale weave? I could be wrong with the name. One of my favourites.
i’ve not done much with flat weaves … they do look stunning if you can get your head around them … getting a clasp looking right can be tricky … N
Using multicoloured links must give endless new design possibilities to explore, when combined with links sizes and different patterns, material consumption is my biggest limitation … N
How do you squash the Byzantine links after they’re assembled to make the oval version? Thank you!
Hi cyclingSpirit, I start by squashing the links with pliers and then pull it through a drawer plate after re-annealing … N
Awesome!
Thanks Nancy … N
Incredibly educational. I never realised there was so much to it. How long would it take you to make 10cm of one of those?
thanks for that Ant, if I had a couple of winter nights in front of a roaring fire and not too many glasses of wine i’m sure I would get a wrist chain sorted … cheers … Nick
I have both of those books:-) great information
cheers Guideline, so many resources out there to help with this alluring process … N
@@Nickscreativestuff thanks for the website heads up nick.. absolutely amazing how many styles of chainmail there is :-)
chainmailbasket.com is one of my favourite websites for it’s abyss of knowledge to get lost in … N
Thanks bro
👍😎👍 … N
Dumb question here. Do you ever have to solder these types of chains and if so, how? Thanks for these informative videos.
hi Laszlo, not everyone solderes there links but I definitely do. if not closed with solder they can easily pull open if tugged also edges can catching in clothing. I use paste solder that makes life quick and easy for this process. I made a previous video … ruclips.net/video/O84conQ3amI/видео.html … about this subject … might be useful to check it out … cheers … Nick
Very good explanation again. Do you solder the joints on the silver ones that you make? Cheers Jim
Thanks for that Jim, not everyone solderes there links but I definitely do. if not closed with solder they can easily pull open if tugged also edges can catching in clothing. cheers … Nick
Do you make your own jump rings or order them pre made?
hi Jason, yes definitely make my own jump rings … check out this previous video … ruclips.net/video/LyrKln7rzw0/видео.html … cheers … Nick
Your work is inspiring and you do such a great job demonstrating how to do it. Do you have a patron account, you deserve to be paid for this stuff!
thanks for your vote of confidence Jason, I have started earning a little bit of money from the adverts now that my channel is monetised which is a great help and encouraging to think that one day I could earn a living from working at home. Not looked into the patron thing yet I did try mentioning “super thanks” one time in a video … it did generate one donation but mostly encouraged people to leave the video at that point.
I set up T-shirt merchandising … no orders yet probably need to put more effort into better designs … all the best … Nick
you should make a video on how u squashed the links like that for the byzantine weave
thanks for the suggestion yarina, i’ve been meaning to do a video on byzantine variations … i’ll keep it in mind for next time … Cheers … Nick
Loved the music!
Who is it?
All by same artist?
hi Mike thanks for the comment, I use a video editing app called LumaFusion and pay a subscription to use their music database called story blocks. not much info on the music just a song name, the tracks are … Behind my back blues … Johnny and the pale Rider … lonely
dusty trial … all the best … Nick
@@Nickscreativestuff Thanks Nick. I want to try this art form. Thank you for some amazing work and inspiration.
cheers Mike, chain making can be very addictive once you get going … probably the same sort of mentality as knitting wool jumpers or doing thousand piece jigsaw puzzles … patience is a virtue … N
Brilliant idea to demonstrate and to practice for mugs like me, only prob was concentrating with that great boogie music....turn it off??? more like turn it up!! Thanks, I'll be back.
Hi Barry thanks for that. I used to struggle with music choice, i’ve now learnt if I like it and it grabs me just to use it … N
Do you sell any jewelry? Mainly bracelets?
hi Patricia, only to friends and family … being a hobbyist I make stuff just for the pure pleasure of it … cheers … Nick
I'm looking for your video on how you smush the byzantine bracelet down so the rings become oval
hi Jason, I’ve not made a video about that one. I start them off with pliers and then pull it through a wooden drawer plate making sure it’s well annealed first …. N
So the rings are soldered first then smoothed?
yes, I assemble as a byzantine with round links and solder as I go before making oval … N
if i had the material i would do the same as you i'm passionate about jewelry
The cost of silver can be a bit restricting, I started by using copper which is much more accessible and very similar to work … N
so you advise me to start with copper ?
I practice everything with copper first, and copper jewellery can look beautiful. most techniques are the same if it can be made with copper it can then be produced in silver. even the solder used for silver works well on copper … N
Tank you verre good
thanks for that … N👍
How in world did you solder those Byzantine rings closed I’m so curious about that?
hi backpackjockies … I had a quantum leap in chain making when I discovered soldering paste, it’s very sticky and you can use tiny amounts of it. This fabulous product allows fine chain making to be simple and easy to achieve … cheers … Nick
@@Nickscreativestuff thank you so much for that information
How do connect when you are at the end to the clasp on.
On the round 212121 I just can't get it to look right.
Hi Cindy, I also find it hard to get a clasp to lie right sometimes. I tend to just keep adding temporary links until I figure out something that works and looks acceptable … N
