    LOVE this! I know those 4:30am wake ups, lol. I am a teacher and absolutely love it, but it is quite stressful and super time consuming. I've often thought about taking a different job in the schools- but it pays significantly less. Maybe I'll take the plunge and do it one day! Thank you for sharing your story and advice! :) I am so glad I found your channel! I love finding other minimalist youtubers! I subscribed and can't wait to see more minimalist vids from you! :)

      +Live Intentionally So glad to get in touch! Yes, I think teachers can live from those values in other creative ways and build a life that's more sustainable for themselves. It stinks that education probably loses some really generous and intelligent people because of the way the mainstream system is set up, but hopefully those people do other great work that somehow positively affects the planet.
      Thanks for your comment, I'm going to check out your channel as well! :)

    Good for you! I just quit my corporate job to become a substitute teacher. The flexibility is awesome. It's also low stress. I don't think I can ever do a 9 to 5 again.

    Hi. Happy to find this video. I just quit my 9 to 5 job. Unlike you, I didn't save up, just couldn't bear the thought of going back in for another day and left. I was so motivated to pay my next bills and be happier that I managed to find another job within a week which is 100 times less stressful and less hours and I have found many opportunities online that I'm excited about. I'm actually going to be going back to working at a frozen yogurt shop, a job which I actually enjoyed and ultimately only quit because of the societal pressures to get a job related to your degree and that pays more. I also feel that it has been one of the best things I've done if not only for the excitement of what is out there . Glad things have worked out for you and excited to check out the rest of your channel!

    9-5 job sucks. Waking up in morning is the worse. I'm not a morning person at all. Rush hour commute is a warzone. I prefer to work swing shift. Wake up late and still have full energy. Get off later but able to hit up a bar after work.

      Richard Castromayor I agree with you..I just fucking hate waking up at 630 or 7 am ...I feel completely demotivated when I wake up early.....I like waking up around 8 30 or 9 peacefully everyday and then continue my work.. It's far better than struggling every day morning I just can't imagine myself working every fucking day like a sheep just like the rest of the people who have been so brainwashed and work like a machine

    Omg, I'm totally like you, I'm a trained school teacher and felt exhausted after work with the amount of noise and behaviour problems at work, so decided to do part-time teaching and use the rest of the time to learn a new skill. I do enjoy my freedom but I also find all freedom comes with a cost, either financially or emotionally, by that I mean, if you were allowed to do nothing under pressure and enjoy the day as it comes, then emotionally you will feel unchallenged and have that missing piece in your heart that you want to make a difference either in your life or someone else's life. So I learned coding and software development, something totally in another industry, but for me I felt the excitement every time I look at my codes. I still think in the long run, you would need to systematically learn new skills in order to find/reinvent yourself in a new place, along with the accountabilities in life. Good luck!

    Nine-to-five jobs are for people with low IQs (IQs of 90 and below). If you have a high IQ (120 and above), you will naturally hate a 9-5 job, specially if it is a routine type of job.

    • @Zenkai.boost.Kekkei.Genkai
      @Zenkai.boost.Kekkei.Genkai 5 лет назад +1

      so you gotta have a high IQ to hate a nine to five job? only someone with a low IQ would say such stupid nonsense

    • @ninuska2010
      @ninuska2010 4 года назад

      @@Zenkai.boost.Kekkei.Genkai Creativity is actually a driving force behind high IQ individuals so naturally, highly creative people are going to hate routine and lifestyle that is imposed on them by others and also limits them to express their creativity.

    • @mariancounsellor
      @mariancounsellor 4 года назад

      I don’t think that is scientific. lots of creatives are following their passion but broke and some people who n 9-5 jobs put money aside from their salary so that they can have a side hustle. IQ doesn’t really have anything to do with it. Also, not all 9-5 jobs are the same and not all creatives and entrepreneurs are the same.

    • @mariancounsellor
      @mariancounsellor 4 года назад

      Moderne Domacice some 9-5 jobs allow people to use their creativity and pay them good money in return. A lot of generalisations being made.

    My office closed in October 2009. Eight months later, I was placed on probation. Two years later, I was fired. Nine years later, I'm STILL looking for an attorney to help me unscrew this mess. I have had supervisors who were d***s, but this is ridiculous.

    Don't care about this stuff. Just get the money and your money will buy happiness, will buy anything you need.

    • @joycele7974
      @joycele7974 6 лет назад +1

      Univ Univeral Disagree in my opinion. Money can buy you happiness only to a certain extent, like meeting your basic needs and having extra to spend on things you enjoy such as your hobbies, but it will never leave to true happiness.
      True happiness is found not in material things but in our relationships, our time with loved ones, spending time doing what we love, and having a purpose that God has given each of us. God is the true source of happiness.
      Then again its different for everyone. But there was a study done on the baseline income and happiness levels. I think it's interesting... You should check it out! :)

    Do you pay rent, car note, support anyone. I mean how much does a nanny make? I wish i could quit my job and sustain on a low income.

    • @LikeMinimal
      @LikeMinimal  8 лет назад +1

      Jay, yes. Thanks for this question, it's an important one. I pay rent, car insurance, health insurance, and have 1 cat and 2 guinea pigs. I do not have any children. I should also note that I live in Philadelphia, where the cost of living is more affordable than other major cities. I don't have a whole lot of room to save, especially if I dine out and buy stuff. However, I am working on doing those things less frequently in order to save more each month. There are a lot of things people do to cut expenses. I'm not sure what your specific situation is, it sounds like you might have children. That of course might make it tougher. I would suggest sticking to a budgeted meal plan, limiting paid entertainment and outings while exploring fun free options, and maybe even looking into creating more income independent of your job. There's a great podcast I like to listen to called "Smart Passive Income," which talks about how other people make money that is more passive, rather than trading time for money. There's also The Minimalists podcast, which discusses getting out of debt in a couple of episodes, if that's of any interest to you!

    • @akbarbukhari
      @akbarbukhari 8 лет назад +1

      Like Minimal Yes I do have have child and support my wife. My current job pays pretty good but i'm very miserable, and wanting to quit right on the spot. I'm applying for other jobs with less pay but at least im not miserable. Just need to make enough to not go into debt till i find a job be happy with. I really stop myself from spending on buying impulsive stuff, but I do spend money on dining out. I'm also new college grad with two years skilled professional. I hope it turns out good for me and my small family, just a lot to worry about now days.

    Um, I see that you are promoting yourself, which is good. However how are actually supporting yourself now? Do have to pay rent? Car payment? Do you have a partner that supports you? I think everyone's situation is different. I am seriously telling all young folks that do not have kids to work as much as you can and build up the cash to secure a better life. You will regrets not making the cash earlier vs later in life when you have kids.

    • @LikeMinimal
      @LikeMinimal  8 лет назад +4

      Hey! Yep, I pay rent, car insurance, health insurance, for food, pets, gas, etc. My partner pays for internet! Yes, everyone's situation is certainly different. Keep in mind I live in Philadelphia where the cost of living is relatively lower than other major cities. I don't plan on having kids and I do think saving money is very important. It is tough to save when earning a lower wage, but I am trying to figure out how to do more of that. One of my intentions when leaving my old job was to have time to explore other interests. Another one was to learn to and experiment with generating income in a way that doesn't trade time for money. Lots to learn! Thanks for your comment.
