    If no one has said it, thanks for doing an entire build on an episode. RUclipsrs have this horrible habit of needing a teaser, a cliffhanger, or a "I can't show you yet" in every single video to keep their audience hooked. Keep doing builds like this and you won't need any gimmicks. Get em Throtl.

    • @bmacier
      @bmacier 2 года назад +8

      @@mathewlepp1723 completely agree. Steps/stages I’m more than ok with, but when something is clearly done, “but I can’t show you” to create some mystique to come back is more what I’m referring to. Stance works is another good one where he’s taking you along as he has things done but doesn’t do a lot of cliff hanging.

    Tip. The external air fitting need to be mounted to the top of the bumper. If he catches a ledge that fitting is going bye bye.

    • @lonesomecricket7721
      @lonesomecricket7721 2 года назад +3

      Also, I would have mounted that air compressor inside the engine bay. Dust, water and damage is a real possibility in that location.

    • @zerohero187
      @zerohero187 2 года назад +2

      My initial thoughts exactly. Nothing should hang below the rear bumper. Including the rear exiting exhaust. I know from experience. I have an fj with dual exhaust exiting in the rear. Biggest mistake I've made on my build. Wound up cutting them back after they got squished. I also would have gotten an actual bumper made for a winch. I don't like how it petrudes out so far. Also, if it's not made for it I'd always be worried that it wouldn't take the extreme forces a winch puts on the bumper when in use. He's probably gonna wind up wanting a second battery if he eventually puts a fridge in the back. I wouldn't trust the one battery with the solar panel in the middle of no where. The colors definitely not my taste but thats just me. Screams mall crawler to me. I don't mean to sound like I am criticizing every decision made on this build but if this guy is serious about offroading this truck than these are things that need to be considered. If he's sticking to dirt roads not far off the beaten path and not using the winch to much than he'll probably be fine.

    • @Steve211Ucdhihifvshi
      @Steve211Ucdhihifvshi Год назад

      There is plenty of room inside in the rear cargo bay behind the plastic panels where they could have mounted it too, but being honest one of my fjs hasnt got the extra petrol tank under there and nothing ever gets under there ie water or dirt as its in a good spot.

      for sure on the frame mounted rock sliders.. also add some rock lights on all 4 wheels too for night trails!

    • @bigtoepfer
      @bigtoepfer 2 года назад +6

      As I was watching this I was wondering why it didn't have proper rocksliders rather than the rock catchers. And why they added a winch to that bumper.
      Cool that he got a free winch. But that is definitely not a proper way to mount a winch and it isn't going to hold up to being used.

    I could not recommend highly enough, Voltage sensitive relays. They originated from the marine industry, and are the most superior way for dual Battery systems. They are brilliant for both alternator charging as well as solar and 3 stage chargers and will prioritise charge to the primary battery/start battery, if you need a jump start you can just jump the positive side. Ctek make great 3 stage chargers for deep cycle batteries. Also cabling has to be large enough to prevent voltage drop, it's better to bring the negative cables back to the battery or a dedicated terminal post to help prevent voltage loss. The automotive world kinda got it wrong with low voltage cabling, as energy flows from negative to positive and cabling is far more efficient to carry energy then the cars body. I installed my dual Battery system and it ran perfectly for over 10 years in my Prado, sold the vehicle and it's still going, 6 years later. AGM batteries with 3 stage chargers all day!

    Color and lights are nice, but alot of questions in that build.
    1 why would you put aircompressors under the truck not in the engine bay?
    2 with the 3inch lift kit you need a diff drop
    3 with added weight you did the brakes but kept the stock calipers, you probably could get some off the gx or 4runner, they work much better.
    4 no skid plates
    5 when you offroad and hit some trees and dirt you hit it with the winch first, why not to mount it inside/ get the different bumper to mount it properly
    6 get a real rock sliders and not just steps that you called sliders.
    7 you got the arb compressor would be smart to do the front airlocker too

  • @ModifyReality
    @ModifyReality 2 года назад +2

    Looks like winch welds will fail in a winch recovery. The arb compressor mounting is exposed to all the elements, and the air line mounting location will be broken from too steep of a departure angle. And lastly those side steps will catch on rocks if rock crawling. Other than that looks awesome.

    Great build!! I do think though that having the ARB dual compressor exposed underneath the car is probably not a good idea...air compressors aren't a sealed system and are only really water and dust resistant...not proof. This will limit the FJ's abilities to do water crossings or be in very dusty tracks. Also, rock sliders would have probably been better than the steps since they can get hung up and stuck on rocks when you're doing technical rock crawling! Anyways, still a very fun vid, and great work 👍

    Side steps can NOT double as "rock bars" but rock SLIDERS CAN double as side steps. Shoulda got the sliders. It's goofy to have a capable rig like this with some side steps so basically they're going to bend, dent, and rip right off if he tries anything even half arduous. He may as well have all stock bumpers and suspension since he can't do anything unless he wants to rip em off. I'm all for the "looks" builds though. If dudes have "rigs" that cater to the eyes more than to a hard trail, I'm all in and some of em are amazing, but you can't have a sick ass rig and then have side steps and pretend they're capable and if they're on the rig, you obviously don't don't use the rig for what's it's built for. All fine as long as you admit it. If I were him, I'd take those things off and chuck em, first thing.

I've also spent around $8k on parts in the last 2 years & ive never had the spot to work on it. My wheel bearings and ball joint are blown on one side, i have a parasitic drain on battery so i have to unplug the battery every night 😮‍💨 Finally, To top it off, i was rear ended by Santa Claus on Xmas eve and it cracked my JDM bumper and slightly pushed the beam in just enough to make it hard to close the trunk. Idk what I'd do if i had a reliable car.

    excellent transformation, they really have great style and talent... the only detail that I didn't think or I didn't like was the placement of the winch. The rest is too good .. greetings

      a bumper with build-in winch mount is always better and stronger too.

    Maybe it'd be redundant for some reason I'm not aware of, but would there be any point putting a slight hook on the end of those brackets for the reservoirs? Seems like it'd be a minor thing that would reduce the possibility of clamps managing to work their way loose.

    Only things I would change is hooking the solar to a secondary house battery instead of the starter one and I would have painted the screws on the front bumper black. Wonder how long that solar panel is going to last from getting saturated with heat from the engine.

    Awesome build! I loved my FJ and you did everything I ever wanted to minus a secondary fuel tank. Besides space for my heathen offspring, the only short comming was the short legs on the FJ for up here in AK.
    Well done guys!

    Why didn’t you fit the hose spring clips? They are much more reliable and keep a constant tension on the hose with no gaps and cannot damage the hose? Also they don’t loose tension when going from hot to cold. It’s why automotive manufacturers use them.

    This might be the coolest build I’ve seen on this channel. All function and yet it still made the thing look rugged and clean at the same time. Now I’m over here looking for onboard air on my truck lol.

    Congratulations on the build. As in America the products are more accessible, you can assemble these incredible projects! Here in South America we need to work 15 years to assemble one of these.
