Thanks for taking care of these babies. Gylfie n Dryer needed it. You're so amazing, as are all the feathery friends. Merry Christmas n Happy New Year everyone.
I’m so happy that you supplemented their food. I couldn’t ignore the hunger of the poor chicks either. Seeing the older owlet attempting to feed the other was so heartwarming!
It was frustrating watching it in real time. The parents not showing up and gylfie raiding the kids food. But we are rewarded by the lovely personalities that grew up out of this. Fall, in particular, is a treasure.
I love that when Gylfie came to the nest to scavenge for scraps from the kids pantry the oldest one was like "Mom where's the food? You don't have any?! What are you doing back then! Get out and get your own food!" 😂 And then the threatening clacking of their beak at the end was so cute to tie up the owlets annoyance of there being no food.
Really lovely to see the oldest chick feeding the middle chick. And the stand offs! Incredible how quickly the balance of power shifts. Your providing extra TLC has a natural ripple effect to the Good for all of nature. Thank you!
Yes, never seen it before! I wonder why the parents can’t find food so they are starving? Might be a couple of different reasons who all come together? Robert is the one who knows about this area and what is going on there. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪 👵🏻
Yeah Autumn standing up to the dominant barn owl in the region who also happened to be her mother who was raiding her food. It was impressive. It was also an interesting dynamic to see dryer deliver food only to have her take it from him. It's almost like she was telling him to stop feeding them
@@mariawestman9026yeah that's what makes it so odd is that there was no shortage of food. Fotherdale has plenty of resources as Robert hangs up chickens and such every night. Gylfie and the stoats have the first access to them largely. So I don't think it was a lack of resources although who knows these things are driven by instincts so it's hard to speculate
@@michaelcorcoran8768 was thinking the same thing. I know nothing about owls and very little about the birds we have in Sweden but love to sits outside, summertime in my el-wheelchair lot of nice places nearby we live. Listening and watching birds from early spring (snow still visible on the ground) until October seeing them who will stay here for the winter. To watch and learn from Mr Robert Fullers work (fantastic job btw) and the wild little animals at the farm - I favor this channel. Also grateful to you Mr Corcoran 🙏 and to others who answer my questions in a way that it’s easy for understanding. Maria and Pierre. 👵🏻👴🏻 🇸🇪
Nature sure can be Harsh, but luckily the Barn owls have you, Robert to help them out! This was a Very interesting video. Thank you for sharing the joys and sorrows of the Barn owls and their chick's! ❤🦉 😊❤🦉 😊❤
This was a phenomenal learning session for me. The barn owls’ behavior and instincts are fascinating to see. Thanks to you and your staff, Robert, we bring your educational and informative content to our homes. Very grateful.
I'd like to say a thank you to Mrs. REF who also brought the mice and docs. I won't forget the night she came out on a dark night to search for the newly fledged Autumn when we all feared the worst. Her warm smile and waves to the live cam were reassurances that our little owl brood was getting a wonderful helping hand.
You do a great job! I watch your videos often and love how you take care and help feed the babies when mama needs help. Also you weigh and tag them. You have a beautiful landscape for all sorts of weasels and stoats that you help. I just want to thank you very much for all you do for conservation! ❤❤
We (whole family) love to watch the owls ❤ Wonder what reasons why it’s less prey around? It should not be empty 🤷🏻♀️ Always good to see how you support the families in need ! 🇸🇪👵🏻 (stunned to see a sibling feed the youngest… never seen it before and it was GREAT!!! Very sad when parents are starving and can’t feed their own 🐣 What happened in the area this year? Maybe a couple of different things? Thanks again 🙏
I watch this in real time but I had forgotten how big the size difference was between fall and Autumn. They basically caught up by the time you were ringing them.
Caring for others is part of natures cycle for human beings. It goes against our nature to stand by and watch animals suffer…well, for a lot of people anyway! I don’t think it’s wrong at all to help the owls out with extra food. And as you rightly said, they are struggling with loss of habitat and other human related issues , so humans should help them out to compensate.
Baby birds are so horrifying looking to me hahaha. Like if you tried to descibe to an AI image generator what a Skeksis from Dark Crystal looks like. Still love them though lol great video!
They have been poking their heads in the nest the last few days and weeks. Seems likely they will probably move into one of them soon. They seem to wait for winter for some reason
@@RobertEFulleryeah didn't she have a similar issue with the late brood a few years ago when you were out of town and you had to go in to try to rescue them?
They must be hungry and having trouble finding food. Glad you helped them. You gave us a first hand look at natural cycles. When prey is less, predators do not thrive and therefore become less. Prey thrives more then the predators have a lot of prey. Then many predators compete and the cycle repeats.
Yeah although the only thing that makes it a little different here is that fotherdale is rarely going through food scarcity because Robert subsidizes it with sort of daily deliveries of day old chickens and such. Gylfie wasn't facing hunger when she did this which makes it so unusual
Gylfie seems to be just happy to lay eggs and brood until they can thermoregulate themselves. It's Dryer who's more commendable, constantly bringing food to both the owlets and his mate while feeding himself. Gylfie rarely comes back to the nest and that's just to steal food... The owlets seem to hardly even remember her as their mom and consider her competition instead. XD
6:29 How do you prove you are an oficianado of this channel? When Robert (you) mention(s) "put them at risk", under my breath I said, "Jackdaws" before he mentioned them. lol
Geez, you're nearly as bad as the parents ... when ignoring the youngest chicks plight... but then taking care of older ones! How ironic, and to me disappointing since we amateurs see devastating results on nest cameras for the last born so often.

How do you think does the food post with the food supply influence the behavior of the barn owl parents?
Love the shots of the fields with the bails of hay. It makes me want summer back.
It is a reminder that we all go through struggles even the animals.
Really enjoyedit I love seeing them grow looking forward to part w
I remember watching this all unfold😟
Love your videos, favorite youtube channel yet!
robert this is remarkable n breath taking 💛🤍💞
Thanks Robert 🦉🦉
I watch this in real time but I had forgotten how big the size difference was between fall and Autumn. They basically caught up by the time you were ringing them.
This isn't the first time Gylfie has done this.
So ruthless
Missing Autumn and Fall… we watched them grow… 😢
So that's how Autumn and Fall came to be....
those owlets were so lucky having you watch over them

Gylfie has never done well with 2nd broods. 😢
The youngest chicks seem to usually pass on...
Parenting is exhausting!!

I miss my barn owl skye 😢
What ever happened to Luna & Bomber?? We never get to see them anymore.
Robert did just post a recent video of Bomber nest sighting, showing they will breed soon
They have been poking their heads in the nest the last few days and weeks. Seems likely they will probably move into one of them soon. They seem to wait for winter for some reason
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
There's no point in sugarcoating this: Gylfie just isn't a very good mother.
She's great with the first broods, but 2nd broods in the same year are a lot harder to take care of when food is scarce in the cold weather
This was such an interesting watch. I've always known Gylfie to be one of the best mothers so to see this side of her was surprising.
Yes Gylfie is getting older now and she seemed to run out of steam

Gylfie, how careless.....Luna may be possessive with her kids but at least she never want to let them starve😢

What up with Gylfie? Not hanging around? Stealing food for herself??
8:38 for those who came from the community post
Had to stop watching when the little ones were being ignored and starving to sad for me.
Usually you step in and take the smaller one to get it healthy. I kept waiting for it. Sad.
Unfortunately, as I addressed in the film, it would have been too risky to intervene. It would have put the two other, healthy chicks at risk!
This makes me so happy 🥹 Thank you for looking out and lending an extra hand. We need to take care of the animals around us
Why Gylfie? You were such a super-mom! Now you try and steal food from your own chicks.
Gylfies chicks always seem to choose V I O L E N C E towards her when they get older!
What terrible awful parent owls.
Geez, you're nearly as bad as the parents ... when ignoring the youngest chicks plight... but then taking care of older ones! How ironic, and to me disappointing since we amateurs see devastating results on nest cameras for the last born so often.

Without your efforts we would have had zero babies.
Another totally fascinating video. Thank you! I wonder what might have triggered Gylfie’s unusual feeding behaviour ?
