    Nice job. I’m looking at the new Lido bodies mostly because it’s lighter and thinner.

    This comment is a bit late (I thought that this being your most recent video you might see it), and is actually about your two BYOguitar build videos which I watched this week. I watch many of the guitar builders and luthier channels and I wanted you to know that you are the best dye/stain and finisher of the many home builders I have watched. The really good finish work I have seen on RUclips seems to be produced in a factory type setting. Chris at Crimson Guitars is a good example. Anyway, you are quite talented. Keep up the good work.

      Wow, thank you for the kind words. It really means a lot to me that you like my work. I’m a huge fan of Crimson guitars as well. Thank Again.

    I’ve made my share of the GFS bodies, necks, slick guitars and components. Word of wisdom...sometimes there’s work needed, like neck pocket, pickguard and smell other stuff. I agree with your comment about the “small stuff”. Ya gotta know how to adjust the issues. But they are pretty good.
    Amd the routine. Yes that too. They also have smaller HBucker sizing that’s off. But hey, I have the tools...

    Ven it looks like you overcame the gfs issues. Nice job. I built 3 tele's with mostly gfs parts. Videos on my channel. All The gfs necks would not fit the bodies without sanding open the pocket.
    Bridge/neck alignment was same issue as you. On tele #2 I bought a Kmise neck and it fit without pocket modification. The neovin pups are actually a humbucker design, and in 1961, the design these bodies were based on, The older single pups were not as deep. The pass thru hole for the pup wires into control cavity not wide enough. I also needed to do a lot of fret work and lately I changed the nuts to bone. My tele's are now my most used guitars. 3 different flavors to choose from.
    I reported my issues to gfs but they didn't care.

      2bikemike Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I overcame it. I plan on swapping pickups on this one soon. I also fixed the neck alignment issue by shimming it and it’s lined up perfectly now. She plays great. I have seen your builds. I saw you had a lot of issues to overcome. Not cool that they claim the bodies & neck fit each other though. I thought about a complete GFS build but after seeing your vids and hearing about the issues you had I changed my mind. I still like their pickups and aside from the few minor issues I had the body is great. I would buy their bodies/Pickups & hardware again but definitely not the necks.

      The GFS xgp necks are really nice except for the fact that they don't plan on the heel width properly post the application of the polyurethane. if I was ever to do another one I would definitely buy necks elsewhere that would have the proper heel with. And since I know the bridges are not properly lined up I would be able to take measures to account for that in advance. but I have three tele's now and I'm not sure I need anymore guitar bills but who knows if I get a whim or not.

    Looks great! I bought their cream color one, and put Alex Pribora cream color pickups in it.

    Looks n sounds good. Definately a lot like what I ended up with last year except you went for the retro styling where I didn't.

    Nice video
    As far as the alignment of the neck,you can simply loosen the neck plate screws a little and move the neck into alignment,then tighten them back while you have the neck in the position that you need it to be. I've had to do that before myself. Hope this helps brother

    Thanks for the review. I'm thinking of buying one of their swamp ash hardtail Strat bodies in the future. Hope it's decent!

    I have a Frankenstein unfinished mahogany Telecaster body and white pearl neck coming from guitar fetish that I'm excited about but a little nervous about after listening to some of these reviews. I'm going to take my time and re measure before I assemble it hopefully to correct any inaccuracy issues before they become permanent issues

    Silly GF pickup was too deep but the spec on the body is correct mid 60s for the route. Maybe GF has a less thick pickup. They should warn you though.

    • @VenancioPortalatin
      @VenancioPortalatin  2 года назад

      Yeah that’s what was wrong. Pickup was mega thick. Not a huge deal but would be good info for those wanting to put their noiseless pickups in a guitar.

    Just watching your video again, waiting for GFS bodies to come back in stock. A few of them are, and I noticed in their descriptions that they've made modifications to them. Maybe they've taken care of the shallow route. The unfinished poplar bodies are now back in stock. I wanted ash, which is still not in, so I may buy poplar...you seem pretty happy with it. I want to do my own lacquer finish. Hope it works!👍😎🎸🎶

    • @VenancioPortalatin

      Yeah, overall I’m happy with it but do wish the cavity was routed a little deeper. I’m probably gonna swap out these pickups soon though because not being able to adjust that bridge pickup height really bothers me...lol

    • @daddyosink4413

      Even their "professional" line of stuff is made overseas, so the quality is going to be hit or miss.... usually a hit. I had a similar issue with a jazz bass build, nothing that a few mins with a Dremel didn't fix.

  • @johndonnellan5794
    @johndonnellan5794 5 лет назад

    2 solutions to your bridge pick up rout,first get a router with a flush cut ball bearing above the router bit and rout it deeper or if you don’t have a router you can use a drill to deepen the slot and clean up the cavity with a small chisell

    • @VenancioPortalatin
      @VenancioPortalatin  5 лет назад

      Yeah, I could’ve done that but the shorter screws worked just as good for now. I’m about to put some different pickups in there so I may have to route it out soon though.

    • @patrolduty8715
      @patrolduty8715 2 года назад

      @@VenancioPortalatin it does not work because you said you cant push the pickup lower. Take some minutes and drill the pickup hole then you will be fine. XGP is extremely good value for money, but the buyer always have to remember ready for minor adjustment. As guitar builders, it is already no problem at all.

    just so fkng cheap, the last warmoth body I ordered was like 470
    but god damn my love for that guitar is borderline sexual lol

    My XGP Strat body has exactly the same neck alignment issue as you described. Just enough to bother you when you’re just done with the build but not enough for you to care
    after that.

    • @VenancioPortalatin

      John Tan I was able to fix it without redrilling. Simply loosen the neck screws a little. Just enough to be able to wiggle the neck slightly. Then push or pull(depending on the direction it is off) and hold it in that position while you tighten the screws back down. Should fix the problem. Found out that it’s a typical issue on all F style guitars and an easy fix. I found a few videos on here about it.

    They should have made it deeper for that pickup. If you don't have a router or are afraid to mess up the finish, I've used a Dremel tool in similar situations. They're small and easy to control and you can get a wide variety of bits that will allow you to router that hole a little deeper. Good luck!👍😎🎸🎶

    • @VenancioPortalatin
      @VenancioPortalatin  6 лет назад

      Yeah, I have a dremel and considered it but haven’t decided if I’ll route it deeper or just put some different pickups in it. For now though it’s fine as is.

      Venancio Portalatin that's good. If ya do it good luck. I'm just getting ready to make an order to GFS right now! They seem like pretty decent parts and decent service and delivery. Maybe later on in the year I'll get one of those swamp ash bodies!

    • @PicksPaints
      @PicksPaints 6 лет назад

      Personally, I'd just break out the chisels. Poplar is soft and works very easy. While slower, you have more control over removing material. One wrong move with a router or Dremel on a finished body and you've just moved into full refinishing territory. Just my opinion, but I've been in a similar situation with kit building. The rout for the bridge was almost 1/4" off and the bridge wouldn't intonate properly. It was a recessed Floyd style bridge. So, I had to chisel the body, fill the existing post holes, refinish the area chiseled away, redrill posts, and it looks just fine, and plays like it should and now intonates properly.

    IF THIS BODY IS SUPPOSE TO BE MADE TO 60'S SPECS THEN THE BRIDGE PICKUP ROUTE IS CORRECT THEY WERE NOT DEEP ON VINTAGE TELECASTERS SO GUITAR FETISH GOT IT RIGHT THAT PICKUP YOU USED WOULD NOT FIT A REAL VINTAGE 60'S TELECASTER EITHER WITHOUT ROUTING THE PICKUP CAVITY.......

    I have had several XGP bodies. Their paint jobs are crap. Good luck on a Tele body even putting ferules in. If you look at the paint wrong it flakes off in quarter sized chunks. I have had 3 that did that. I finally gave up on those bodies..
