Hi there, The reason why Hornby did the shorty Mk3's from 1977 to 1998 was because they were too long to tolerate the first radius curves and at the time. Lima was the only ones to produce the correct scale 75 feet Mk3 coach and the Hornby ones were to a scale 65ft as per the Mk2's.

Funnily enough I have done for early gwr coaches that are longer than my later Lms ones. They're a bugger on the curves!
