  • Hello Team, I hope you are doing well, here is a nice clip shot few days ago landing in LFML acting as PM. Would you like to see the PFD and ND alongside in the left corner of the video? Let me know what you think in the comments down below :)

    Beautiful approach indeed! That's the first time I've seen the vertical flight path display on the ND on a 737, up till now I had only seen it on an A380

    Why so quick (seemingly stressed response) on the reverse ? Can it not be calmer :) ?

      Hi Kay, your message is among the nicest i received, there’s no such thing as noob we all had to learn at some point and I’m more than happy to tell you the reason behind the reverser call; once you brief before TOD(top of descent) your landing performance, in terms of autobrake, flaps and reverser, you want to make sure you do what you had briefed just to respect the brake cooling schedule (in this example), and also as a call out to advise the pilot flying the reverser are working as they are supposed to do; so my call in the video was “reverser, normal indication” and again that is to inform everything has been done and working properly as we had briefed earlier, please do feel free to ask any other questions at any time :)

      Now I feel that I haven't explained myself well in the question. I meant the act of deploying reverser's themselves.
      At around 10:18 , immediately when the speed brakes kicks in, you seemed to deploy it at lightning speed.Can it not have waited for a second or two? Or maybe, you could have pulled it back slightly slower?
      I haven't seen such a fast deployment before. Hence my wondering on why the need to act so fast. Seemed a tad stressed.
      But thank you again, for these wonderful captures and ..

      I got your question now, the reason for the fast deployment is because after touchdown the engine thrust slows down from the flight idle detent to the ground idle detent and that takes approximately 2 seconds, if you were to wait for the engines to slow down to ground idle and then deploy the reversers it would take 1 second to select reverse to interlock, 2 seconds from interlock cleared to reverser deployed and either 2 or 4 seconds for the reverse spin up, if you add them all up it is about 7/8 seconds, in this video there is obviously no safety issue because the runway is dry and there is good braking action, however on a short, contaminated runway with poor braking action the 7 seconds could really mean a lot in terms of stopping distance, now based on the latter the company procedure is to deploy reverser as soon as you touchdown to a minimum of Idle detent, to clear the interlock asap and then either second detent (75% N1) or full reverse (82% N1)as needed :)
