I did this Biwa bike ride before you, on a Fourth of July weekend in the early 1990s, with a group of American friends. No tunnel in those days and we were ignorant of the mountain that we would have to climb. A woman in our group crashed and rolled in a rice paddy. We went to the nearest house, borrowed a garden hose, and washed her down. We did the whole ride in 2 days. We stayed at a bike ryokan with steaming hot multi-person baths and a HUGE Japanese feast prepared for our dinner, as well as breakfast the next morning. I recall how long it took me to peel off my clothes and how painful it was to even get into the bath. How I managed to do the second day and catch the Shinkansen back to Tokyo still is a mystery. I am an old woman now, and your video brought back memories more than 30 years old. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Haha, that's amazing. The entire lake in two days is pretty intense unless you are super prepared for it. We spent like a week on this trip! Glad we could give you a reminder of your adventure. -E
@@kydeanderic I was such a biker in those days (still have my custom-crafted bike hanging in my garage, no springs and the gel seat cushion was ripped off long ago), and the bike still has its original Riche tires. Although I was in great shape, Biwa in 2 days was tough for all of us! No GPS or Google to tell us how foolish we were! The downward streak on the bike down from the mountain was amazing and triumphant, and I think that was what propelled me to complete the challenge. I look forward to seeing your Part 2 and have become a subscriber! All best wishes to both of you in your further adventures.
This feels more like a classic K&E adventure, maybe because of the more rural aspect and ruggedness. Love it. Two words come to mind for this video. Risk. Management.
I get so much vocabulary for Japan watching you guys. When I finally get there, I'm always going to think of inari-zushi as ball bag sushi. Hopefully I won't actually say it out loud when I order some but I think I'll be okay if I just get conbini-style. And this video is a nostalgia trip! I love when you explore things off the beaten track.
This is a great series. I have to say it does hearken back to Eric's hitchhiking series. Which, frankly, is the best travel series that any Jvloggers have created. Sold me on your channel. Thanks for sharing this experience with us!
Always love a Kyde and Eric adventure! Side note I believe the song Kyde had stuck in her head was in 10 Things I Hate About You. Eric you were right it’s by Semisonic
When we returned from our trip to Japan, we purchased a bidet and it has a kids button. According to the manual, it shortens the spray and drying time as well setting the pressure to 1 and the position to 5, whatever that means. The manual also says the unit should be used under the supervision of an adult. Does that mean a second adult needs to be in the room?
I was glad I got to visit a lake while in Japan. Kawaguchi, near Mt. Fuji 🗻. It was also very cloudy and quite chilly so we didn't get to see much of Fuji.
I am dutch, I was born on a bicycle, then I moved to Germany. Didn't ride a bike for a long time and then we went for a holliday and rented bikes. I rode them everyday, sometimes long long tracks to the point I coudn't pee anymore, exactly like Kyde, I tilted the seat that much that it got shut down down there completely. So yeah I sympathise a lot!I bought trousers with a pamper silicon pad in it, to avoid this in the future.
Sakura and monkeys are so cool! This is really impressive to try out without any preparation. Good luck in the rest of the journey and hope you make it around!

So good I gave it a thumbs up before watching it. And now I'm going to watch it again. I enjoyed the miniature road houses, munching monkey in the tree, glass trough sink etc. It's observing the small things that make cycling and walking such wonderful ways to travel.
I wish you showed the logistics, how you got your bike. Where you rented, how much the cost is etc.Your bike is very nice bike (Bianchi), very expensive to rent in some countries ($100/day etc).
Oh, I just googled "bike rental biwa" and found a place haha, it wasn't in-depth. I think we did mention the price in the video. We got them from Maibara Cycle Station, I think the website is in English. -E
14:20 Boiled eggs is one of those things that I didn't eat in America, that I've come to love in Japan. There's so much food hear that I will miss if I live in the U.S. again.

Hello ! I had such a bad day : I realised i was bad at the game of gorufu and not much better at playing Magic the Gathering. So what I'm good at ? Learning the japanese language, i guess. And you, Kyde and Eric, are my favourite people in relation to that ! So domo arigato gozaimashita.

I was definitely sliding down the seat 🤣
Hey guys! I haven't commented on your vids for a while... been really busy... I loved your first bike adventure... looking forward to seeing you explore Japanese great outdoors. This one was cool. I wonder what's going to happen to Kyde's bum :D Take care. Cheers.
I find it interesting that strawberries are considered a winter fruit in Japan. Here in the UK, I very much associate strawberries with summer. As a kid I used to go to PYO (pick your own) strawberry places with my parents in the summer.
Yea, its backwards to what one would expect. They are grown indoors. It's a weird amount of effort, maybe they won't grow in the summer b/c of the humidity or something? Hrm. -E
It was a smart business decision. Selling strawberries in the summer in Japan is not very profitable as you need to compete with many other kinds of fruit. Besides, fresh strawberries last longer in lower temperatures. Another factor is the huge demand for Japanese "Christmas cakes". In Japan, therefore, 99% of the strawberries are grown in green houses to be picked mostly in the winter.
@@masaegu We have a friend who LOVES strawberry cakes for her birthday, where they are easy to find in June where she is from. But in Japan it's a bit harder to find fresh strawberries in June lol.
You should invest in women’s bicycle Padded seat cover, but what you could do temporarily is get a baby diaper that has gel lining and it will help, even a maxi pad just for riding it will give you great comfort. I’m surprised they didn’t offer you a padded seat, for such a long ride. Regardless U2 guys are fantastic I love your adventures and I love your sarcasm and the way you get along! It keeps me watching
A good start for this miniseries, I didn't picture monkeys in Japan, even if when I went, I went to a monkey park, so I don't know why I m so surprised.
6:06 that looks like a regular bike seat. Better ones are wider, somtimes split under the bum, and have more padding. Cyclists also wear shorts with built in bum padding. And they occasionally sit up off the seat. RIP Kyde-buns!
Hey, so I ride my bike all the time and had the same butt pain issue for a while. I even rode from Yokohama to Sapporo in under 2 weeks! I would typically ride about at least 150km a day, and even with me used to riding fairly often my butt hurt like crazy! It wasn't until I started riding every day for8 hours a day for my new delivery job that it went away (I think my butt created some new fat/scar tissue or something where the seat is lol). Though if you do not have the time to make your butt stronger I would recommend getting bicycle underwear, which they sell at Y's road. The pants are pretty comfy for bike riding!
Haha, yea, we were actually pretty fine for this ride, and clearly unprepared. Yokohama to Sapporo sounds awesome by the way! I'm sorta addicted to the idea of biking now haha. -E

Oh Kyde....... before the next time on a bike you need to pick yourself up a gel seat cover! It fits over any bike seat and gives you lots of extra padding for your bits!!
