Why have I suffered so long and my many doctors are just now prescribing vaginal hormones? I’m freaking 64! Thank God for information like yours on RUclips and women advocating for themselves. My pharmacist didn’t even really know how to counsel me on its application.

thank you thank you thank you. This is very helpful for me. I have recently started using vaginal hormones and I was having a lot of itching. I did go off of it for a while and used three day course of Micinozole. Hearing this information makes me feel better that what I was experiencing is very common. It also lets me see that there are other options if I continue to have issues. Thank you so much for sharing this.

    Dr Ruben,
When I first started using vaginal estrogen, it burned. Now seven months later it doesn’t burn, but I have severe pulling, cramping feeling for about three hours. Along with this I get extreme frequency and spasming of urination. Does this sound normal? My goal in using the estrogen is to help stop frequent urination, but it seems to promote the problem. What do you advise?

Thank you for this! Some additional questions: If our symptoms improve but don't go away do we keep increasing the dosage? What is the maximum dose? Can it be helpful to use a smaller amount more often, such as 1/2 gram every other day rather that 1 gram 2x/week? What's the best way to clean the applicator effectively?

Dr. Rachel, I finally got a doctor to prescribe me a vaginal estrogen cream (brand: Esragyn) BUT it's 0.01 estrone. Can you comment on estrone vs much more common estriol? (Haven't had a UTI in a few years thankfully, just dealing with some dryness and occasional discomfort during sex). Appreciate you.

What about using too much causing yeast infections?
What about adding LS on top of the GSM problem? Topicals causing LS flare ups.

Awesome information! I am 14 years postmenopausal. I am just experiencing the effect of low estrogen. Presented mostly by itching and then redness with one side of my vulva swelling. I started Premarin cream and it seemed to work at first then all of my skin, vaginal vulva, perineal and anal areas became red, irritated swollen and burning. I tried steroids and it made it worse. I stopped everything to sort out what was happening. I restarted the cream and within two weeks I saw the same irradiation. I just switched to Estrodiol. Observing how this affects me…

I read that there is an ingredient in the cream that for some women it can be very irritating. Some women have to go to a compounded cream to get relief or use the estradiol vaginal pill form intravaginally

I use it already! My daughter (30's) has yeast infections every month for a couple of days before her period, will vaginal hormones help her?? Her OB told her it was due to her vagina's ph...

If your daughter cuts back on sugar and refined carbohydrates and adds a supplement like Candidase (needs to be taken on an empty stomach) it will help a lot. Whenever I sense a yeast issue starting, that’s what I do and it usually takes care of it. A good Naturopath or Functional MD is far more helpful than a standard MD when it comes to dealing with yeast overgrowth.
