This Is The One. Bruce wrote it in 72 and released in 73. It was written as a performance piece, about a real relationship, and was the most exciting/crowd pleasing number of his 4 hour shows. I saw him play it in little clubs and in huge arenas--always very very special...

This was 1978. Bruce and the E Street Band had been off the road and unable to record for about 3 years after the Born To Run tour due to Bruce suing his manager to regain control of his publishing. They had a lot of pent up energy and felt that they were looked upon as “has beens” and “one hit wonders”. They went out on the Darkness tour with a vengeance to prove everyone wrong. Darkness Tour shows are generally considered prime E Street Band material.
I don’t know what Gary Tallent (bass player) had going on but by all accounts, Clarence was getting PLENTY of female attention after the show. 😂
This song was inspired by an old girlfriend of Bruce’s whose mother hated him so much she got a restraining order against him. Regarding the different levels of intensity you mentioned, he wrote this song with the idea he wanted it to start fast but also seem like it was building the whole time.

My absolute favorite Springsteen song! It makes you want to MOVE at the start, it is joyful and TRIUMPHANT, and as a former Jersey boy who lived near the Swamps of Jersey, I really appreciate the call out towards the end! Let's all give Clarence some love (and all the bass players too). 😉

Michael Brecker played (tenor) on Springsteen's Born to Run album. His brother also played on the album. David Sanborn played bari on that album.

I've been a nine inch nails fanatic since I was 14. Now I'm 40. I really love the honesty you give when doing analysis on their songs and all the other bands. I'd love an opinion on Heresy by nine inch nails whenever you get the time which I know could be a while. Great great channel David

On bass, Mr. Garry W. Tallent (yes, his real name) the last remaining original member of the E Street Band, and the "Professor" Roy Bittan hammering the piano!! With Bruce, can't judge a song by it's cover.....as long as you enjoyed it, that's all that matters!!! Long live the Big Man, and Danny Federici playing the Hammond b3 organ!! Two legends of the band, two treasures whom I had the honour seeing perform time after time!! Great review, you made some important points, as always, Rock ON!!

The Big Man was a tremendous loss. My favorite of him is playing that sax in Jungleland. So smooth. Love Rosalita too, tho. Thank you. Great breakdown. Happy Holidays.

Great reaction David, and an excellent piece of cautionary advice; it was a different time. The world has changed and the unthinkable has become the possible. I've always been a big fan of Bruce's early stuff and "The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle" is one of my favorite albums. Do yourself a favor and when you have some spare time (Yeah, right!) look into that and "Greetings from Asbury Park"; you'll find some real gems in there...

    The band is great

Fun fact about this song. At the time Bruce was dating Diane Lozito. This song is about her and how her parents were not that keen on Bruce as he was unsigned and didn't have a lot of prospects. Hence towards the end he had just signed his contract with Columbia Records. He decided that Diane's name didn't fit the song so he named it after her grandmother, Rosa Lozito ... Rosalita which had more rhyming abilities

For Bruce, you have to do Mary’s Place (from Barcelona 2002), Waiting On a Sunny Day (from really any concert), Sherry Darling (from the No Nukes Concert), New York City Serenade (from Rome 2013), Born in the U.S.A. (From Madison Square Garden 2000), (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher (From the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame 25th anniversary), and Kitty's Back (From Perth 2014). All amazing!

Your use of that anime clip for the relief you felt cracked me up xD xD What a fun reaction for such a fun live performance. This and Ramrod have been two very fun reactions, showing that not all of Bruce's songs are serious, they can be a damn party! Thats what makes his concerts so great :)

Clarence's most common sax was a Tenor Sax Selmer VI with a Dukoff D9 or Berg Larsen mouthpiece.

A friend of mine has been playing Selmer sax's since high school jazz band. In his opinion they are the best and I'm not gonna argue with a guy who graduated from North Texas State that currently plays 3-4 nights a week with various bands.

Clarence doing cardio b4 cardio was a thing -
Kinda hoping the vid was going to be the one where Bruce falls off the speakers and the band keeps playing - but this is a solid performance and a great review -
And he does slip about 20 seconds of " ballad" into it towards the end
Happy holidays to all the Heretics and all the subscribers

But I do have to say, I really like the dude reviewing, he's actually pretty good and on point... I think I'll subscribe and see what else he's got on this channel, I have a feeling I might like his stuff 😁👍

Does Bruce block if you use a video off of his channel? The audio sounds terrible on this compared to the Hammersmith '75 video on his page. Or since this is the Phoenix '78 video, take the version on his channel (which has a longer title)?

There's a fun cover of this song by one of my fave bands no one has ever heard of ha but who have been jamming since late '80s, early '90s and are still playing, a band called Big Head Todd and the Monsters. They had a few hits in the 90s, Bittersweet was probably the most popular song they had then. But anyway, Todd Mohr's cover of this song Rosalita with the legendary John Popper accompanying his band is a lot of fun. I love Big Head Todd and the Monsters, they are just a fun hardworking band that always make me feel good listening to them or watching them live. Their 2008 live concert at Red Rocks is one of my fave performances and has great sound quality. But I digress, here is the link to Big Head Todd's cover of Rosalita, I think he pays good homage to Bruce with this version! ruclips.net/video/OshNg-N3w6Y/видео.html
Just for fun I hope you will check out another great Big Head Todd and the Monsters song, Broken Hearted Savior, this is from that 2008 concert. It will give you a look at their style, Todd is a terrific guitar player and I adore the drummer Brian Nevin! ruclips.net/video/3LDTOELWKts/видео.html
