deantoni is so amazing... not only are his drumskills unbelievably from outer this world, but hes also able to change clothes multiple times during performing a song
I watch this once a week, and that's barely enough to get by. I just don't want to get to a point where I don't appreciate just how incredible this is.
This is by far the best of them that I know of. Everything is just right. Slow and soft when it needs to feel that way, fast and loud when necessary, just right. The song on the album works, but this here doesn’t remotely seem as long as it is, and is just long enough to work so fucking completely. I have not been here once a week since I discovered it, but am working on being a better person, perhaps, if I am remotely successful in that endeavor, I may see you here weekly.
When Cedric sings well he is the best singer I have ever heard in my life.. in my personal taste/opinion. I love the emotionality he brings to his singing
The Mars Volta exists in a totally different part of my mind than music. It's like a drug for me. I just need it. i need it to be able to appreciate other music. It literally expands my mind.
Songs like this get me hyped for TMV's possible return. Just because they might not be able to pull that flamboyant, frantic, prog/psych rock of the early records (age comes to everyone, mostly Cedric - we can't charge that extravagant vocal and physical performance of him anymore), it doesn't mean their music can not be less than amazing! In Omar and Cedric we trust!
What I love about Cedric is that he always took risks. Always coming out with difficult vocal melodys and strange ways of singing, even in at the drive-in. Courage is one of the best qualitys an artist can have
I was there at the Variety Playhouse when they shot the set where D Parks was wearing the hood.got my vinyl signed by all of them in pencil went to the bar next door to the venue with them an low an behold the lead guitarist for Mastodon is laying on the sidewalk pissie drunk...best night of my life👍
Jesus...cedrics vocals are on point here...raw as hell...he really started struggling with a lot of stuff live late in the mars Volta days...but here he's on fire...gives me a woody...long live the mars Volta...and all good music for that matter
I wonder that too. The Malkin Jewel was one of the better tracks from Noctorniquet for me but I love this live version more. Their cover of Broken English is pretty solid too, I do find it strange they don't acknowledge the fact that more than half this video is a cover but whatever.
he's a frontman.... there's more to it than just singing. Cedric is part of the band, and how it sounds. He adds another element to the music, which is really all takes haha Cedric kicks ass as does EVERYONE IN TMV
WTF? Where has this been my entire life? Unfortunately, I didn't stumble across them until 2013. But jeebus christ, it just keeps getting better. It's concerning what else I'm missing out on...
They've got soo much live footage like this. I'm glad they are finally starting to put some of it out so people can see how good this band really is when Cedric's voice is on...
This is awesome! I saw them do this live in Buffalo around this time when they were doing 'secret TMV shows' (it was marketed as just an omar solo show). I remember seeing their whole show of Noctourniquet stuff and just being utterly confused (they didn't do any older TMV stuff, so the new songs just kind of blended together as one, they did all of these long jams). Having the context, I'd love to go back and see that show again!
I’ve been a fan since 2005 and honestly when I listened to their Albums against recently I realize noctourniquet is mb my #3 album of theirs after Frances and deloused. Very few people love it though and I didn’t give it much of a chance at the time too . And I think tmv agrees because at their recent show they pretty much played Frances deloused and noctourniquet the most .
I give a crap what anyone says about TMV going downhill, this song is excellent. Appreciate what you have here instead of picking it to death and making comparisons.
This song is an amazing collaboration amongst these creative spirits... It's alluring & brings me to a place of solitude... my partner hung himself 2 yrs ago in front of our 3 yr old son... he taught me the magic of love...this song is for Saul...in this life & the next...🗝️🖤🌘
this is the great thing about keeping this albums songs short and formatted. Live jams are gonna kick asssssssssss!!! cant wait to see this tour, I hope they do a tour before working on the new ATDI
ive watched this video probably about 15 times now, but now i usually just skip straight to the 5 minutes mark...the extended jam that goes on til the end is just so provocative, so beautiful, so trippy...makes for some great weed music. these kinds of jams are why i love this band so much
It is so nice to see someone somewhere out there is getting the same from these guys as I do.. Expends the mind and in my case also makes a more appreciative and humble being, enabling me to notice and enjoy the beauty and genius of Volta's music.
im a huge mars volta fan....and i honestly didnt like the album at first, it grew on me and now i cant stop listening to it....so many parts stand out to me and cedric has never sounded better
An absolutely remarkable band to see live. I never miss them when they come to town. This is a great moment capture. Awesome choice for an official video.
Omar has become so different than when he began his huge-ass career back with ATDI. He's so much more quiet and thoughtful now, and for all that I am the biggest fan of his early work, it's mind blowing and fantastic to see an artist who's willing to change and learn and grow over the years. On that point, I really hope they make a live album. It would be spectacular, would it not?
Im a huge fan of their first and second too. Loved Bedlam, and I think this is their best album. I didnt like it at first but after a few listens it has grown on me a lot.
I want an entire live performance! This is such a great proshot and sound quality. All of the Noctourniquet songs sound so much better live in my opinion, just because they'd been sitting on the record for so long, and got to make such awesome changes but only before releasing it. Plox release this set in CD/DVD form, or mp3 as well. Great stuff
I appreciate many genres of music and can certainly accept what you say; there are some bands I don't really like but I can certainly see that they do what they do very well. This band are certainly capable musicians but the aural pleasure they give me is about the same as when I get my ears syringed. It's just a matter of differing tastes but some clearly can't accept an alternative viewpoint.
IT'S HAPPENING IT'S HAPPENING IT'S HAPPENING

Cedric hits some of the best live vocals I've ever heard him muster in this one. proud of him
this may have been his best performance
He can't sing worth shit. You have no idea what makes a good singer, or good music for that matter.
The sound team really did a great job here too. Super good audio.
He always has,. Used to , still does but he used to too .
deantoni has so many wardrobe changes in one song, a true beast of both drums and fashion
nathan sauve Homie can't miss with the fashion statements.
lol - with all these close up shots its possible they edited in some clips taken during a sound test...
The shot of parks in the hoodie was at variety playhouse in Atlanta, I was at the show
When Cedric sings well he is the best singer I have ever heard in my life.. in my personal taste/opinion. I love the emotionality he brings to his singing
His greatest gift is the ability to write a coherent vocal melody and build harmony over absolutely anything at all.
whats funny is he does some pretty good yells here hut couldnt pull it off at all wuth the at the drive in reunion later that year
The Mars Volta exists in a totally different part of my mind than music. It's like a drug for me. I just need it. i need it to be able to appreciate other music. It literally expands my mind.
Been so disappointed by many, "If you like The Mars Volta check out...." recommendations. There is The Mars Volta and there is everything else.
@@Waxinasss So true
Hopefully you scooped up some tickets
@@Waxinasss try out Hella and Tera Melos. Different styles of rock but I find them every bit as engaging and interesting as TMV.
...this is why you NEVER skip The Mars Volta live if you get the chance, ever...
Cedric is one of the coolest frontmen ever
He so sick wit it, this is probably one of the best TMV performances ever.
The fact that this turned out to be a "so long" rather than a "goodbye" made it even better
even tho they broke up, they'll always be playing for me for as long as im alive.
If you look on the most recent Wikipedia Mars Volta page.. they're thinking about reuniting!
They are recording a new album

Why wasn't this version on the album? Hot damn! I'd like The Malkin Jewel more if it were like this.
Cassandra Gemini 2: Electric Boogaloo

@@sandersegers8768 The latter half of this video (@5:10 onwards) is a 10 or so minute long cover of the song Broken English by Marianne Faithfull.
Really? I actually prefer the album version. I always loved those Nick Cave-inspired verses.
Oh. My. GOD.
One of my favorite songs by TMV performed at three times the length. Its TOO good.
I tried once, but the cable broke. :’( should’ve put tape around it, as he does. Lol.

Deantoni is a cerebral drummer. This album has elevated the band, with the percussion as the dynamic driving force.
