      he is one of my favourite musicians. Not just because he is a great guy and played in TMV but also for Pedals and Effects, his work with Mr Big and Big Sir. All great.

      Flea recorded the bass to everything except televators. But Ava wrote all the parts and she commented in an interview that she was stoked that he didn’t change the parts that she wrote.

      yoyoyoson and its funny because he hated being in this band. Of course their later drummers are good but none of them quite had the same finesse and nuance as Jon

      @@TheMeatballMen Didn't he hate the relentless touring and a few other aspects of being in TMV? Doubt he hated the music (not that your comment says this), given the amount of work he put in creating some of these grooves, specially on Frances the Mute that was the first album he composed fully with them and I read interviews saying he really enjoyed the dynamics of playing without hearing the rest. TMV seems like a important band in his career but I doubt much good stuff would come from such strained relationships, Omar and Cedric seem really hard to work with; and they regretted losing him as well

    the early Volta gigs are my favourite things ever man.... Jon and Juan are soooo tight in this...I love when Omar has the big hair and is really getting into it. Ikey is coming out with some mad sounds in this one too... Cedric cool as always.

    the cool thing about mars volta is that if you go back a couple of months before, they are playing that same exact song differently live. you get a different experience everytime you see them

    Japan for me is where the Volta shine particularly well. This and the Sonic Mania performance from 2005 represent the band at their peak.

      +SUCKRPUNCHED ya to a degree. you should check out his previous band Golden. great stuff, very fusion/African in nature. long solos etc... there's also a great version of Coltrane's Niamia by them floating around on yt under the band name vato negro

    i hate how you can't really here Ikey's keys in ANY vids... when I saw them live during the Bedlam tour he brought the house down on a few of his solos. There was a particularly huge climax when he took a solo on "Goliath" before the fast part... it was SOOOO good and I feel like he never gets credit in the mix (unless you're actually there live)

    well, if u listen to them live purely from the perspective of how close they sound to the studio records then it's a semi-fail, but when u look at the amount of the energy they put out and how much they enjoy being there at that exact moment then it's a totally different story, u gotta feel it in a way. no band in the world can do what they do live. if u only focus on somewhat bad Cedric's vocals and Omar not hitting the right notes every now and then, ur missing out on something very special.

    I think Jon Theodore is the best drummer for TMV than after that Deantoni. :3 but they are all great in my opinion.
