Otis, I know how you feel about releasing a film! I have a 3 hour documentary/interview on my channel that I produced, filmed, edited, and all the rest, on my own dime and time... It's called WWII Scrapbook, The Life and Times of GI Joel. It actually took me many years to complete, but that's a whole 'nother story. It's about a WWII combat veteran whom I befriended in NYC and took out every Sunday for coffee(!) and donuts for 6 years, from '99 to '05. For the 4 1/2 years that he was in service he carried an old Zeiss Ikonta 2 1/4 folding camera, and I got approx 500 negatives from him that he had kept wrapped up in an old silk shirt in his sock drawer for over 50 years; the world had never seen his photos. He made his living after the war as a pro photographer, so the quality of the pics are very good. And his memory was exceptional... I began printing 8x10s off his negs, and every Sunday I would bring along a dozen or so, and when he'd see them, he'd just start talking, and would remember details that were amazing. Anyway, if you're at all interested in some oddball WWII history from a couple of oddball New Yorkers, please check it out sometime. It was shot in Hi8 (when Joe was around 90 years old) and later transferred to digital, so the quality is only good enough for a laptop, but the value is in Joe's stories and photos. Hope you can have a look. BTW, I'm fascinated by what you said about using old 60s lenses to make your documentary! I used to collect old Leicas, Graflexes and Hasselblads, and I know what you mean about the quality of that old glass! So awesome to be able to use it to enhance digital! Best, -Paul D PS: Happy Birthday Amy! I hope Otis shows you a great time! Maybe a WWII documentary?? ;)
It's the one thing you can be proud of and not a sin show me your friends and I will show you who you are an old Irish guy told me that a long time ago still holds true today
Saw a video from the late Jim Dickinson who asked the rhetorical question "what is a record" and he said above all it's to *document* a point in time. A band saying this is where we are creatively at this moment in time. For example Exile on Main Street (my example not his). That moment can never happen again but we have a "record" of that time and place. I think you're saying the same thing. Happy birthday Amy.
It is the connections you make. There are assholes in the crowd, they just behave themselves because of the positive vibe you put out That coffee mug is almost the size of a hot tub
You and Todd did a couple episodes from the car, more than couple but they are what brought me to Mr. Snider. His years of music service shines so bright. Being a Good Dude ain't hard. The Golden Rule always works. ✌️🤟
Just a thought; Back in our younger days, most city’s newspapers had an entertainment column. Papers are a dying breed. The real reporter who would cover a smaller venue is extinct. Thanks for picking up the torch, to move forward to your channel coverage. Your work is very informative, as well as entertaining.
Sorry I missed the live chat and I’m glad you don’t think we’re buttholes. The Todd doc is great. If I was close by I’d take you two out for Amy’s birthday. Your efforts are appreciated Otis.
Otis you should be extremely proud of your content. It’s the wholesome beautiful truth. I can’t wait to see what the next video brings. God bless you and thank you for this channel
I get inspired by these Otis Gibbs coffee chats. Thanks Otis, Todd and all guests for your dedication the craft, the tradition and the history. Keep on growing.
I watched/listened to the documentary late last night. Not because of the content, I fell asleep to it. I ended up having a vivid dream where I was traveling with Todd through a snowstorm. Great dream. Amy, have a great birthday!
Phenomenal documentary…..loved it. Someday I believe Todd’s talent will become even more widely recognized, and this film will be a definitive resource to learn more about him and his music
Doing new things and "getting it" is a great thing. Glad it was so positive - but as you reap, so shall you sow. You're a kind soul and you are right, you don't attract assholes. On social media that is saying something
Otis your videos like, when you run your mouth about the Beatles, To me, They are the best while enjoying my morning coffee! Happy birthday Amy! Hope Otis sings happy birthday to you !!!
Happy Birthday Amy🎉 Yesterday was my sweetheart Kathy’s BD. I am very familiar with that eye roll of which you speak. I watched the documentary earlier in the week and it was great! I bought Todd’s first album (CD) way back when it came out, 95ish. I never really heard about him again until I started listening to you. Then for the longest time whenever you mentioned Todd I thought it was Snider. I kept thinking man they are tight… In the last month or so I figured out that there are two Todd’s…silly me. Anyway, keep doing what you do. I sure enjoy it! Thanks!
Happy Saturday, Otis! And Happy Birthday to Ms. Amy! I hope y'all have an enjoyable day celebrating by doing Amy things! 🤍💛 I wanted to catch the premier of your Todd Snider movie, but I was working. Hard to justify to the boss or my coworkers. I'll watch it this morning. Thank you for doing what you do and being who you are 🙏🏻 I would enjoy a conversation with you over coffee or what have you any day of the week. Be good to you 🤍💛
Thanks for the videos, they bring me a lot of joy. It also introduced me to your music such as Hoosier National, which I have to say is amazing! So i'll continue watching with my decaf coffee 😀
The new Summer Of Love , Thanks Otis . I think your channel shows the power of good music . Good music, good people , good vibes . From all youve said about her , we know Amy is a wonderful woman . I hope she has a beautiful day full of good pie and coffee and other fun things . ☕❤🥧
I saw this documentary in my RUclips feed but didn't understand what it was about. Thanks for explaining it here. Now I'll watch it! Happy birthday, Amy!

I’ve got a novice’s background in photography, and always notice composition. I loved the shots of Todd playing on the left of the screen as we viewed, looking across the screen into the audience, which is unseen due to the contrast. Cool stuff Otis. You’ll only get better at this, but it’s obvious you’ve got a knack for it.
I’ve never busked, but people I know have told me it’s a complicated scene. People feel that they “own” a particular spot, try to chase you out, city ordinances, permits, etc. This is in Sacramento, Ca.
Thank you so much Otis for the documentary...it was awesome. Please wish Amy a happy birthday from this old singer/songwriter from the foothills of Mt. Rainier in Washington State.
You guys did a great job on the Todd Snider show ! The music, interviews, & Todd’s interaction with Keith & the attendees were excellent. I enjoyed it, & this morning coffee very much.
happy birthday Amy 🎂 and a big thanks for keeping my man Otis on the bright side. he couldn't have the peace and joy he exudes if was in a bad relationship. big thanks to you Amy.
I always thought you should be making longer form docs because of your style, and all the things you have documented, it just fits. I'm really glad to see you doing things in that direction. I've got my coffee, but it's decaf, for my second cup. Gotta cut down on the caffeine.
No Otis….you’re one of the good ones. You keep good company and it shows. I miss the life I aimed for but it gives me so much joy that others hit the mark. You’re beautiful, good and true.
Happy Birthday, Amy! I hope your day is fantastic and you get something better than vacuum cleaner bags.😆I'm sure you will. Your documentary is fantastic, Otis! I watched it yesterday and enjoyed every second. I'm a huge fan of the Nervous Wrecks, and WOW! How cool was that reunion? Fantastic. Anyway, I loved it and you should be proud. 🧠❤️🎶
1st off: Happy Birthday, Amy! You were so kind to me when I asked you to check the status of my Otis subscription it totally blew my mind. Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful day. Total love for you guys. You guys are the real deal. 1st Class! Great doc, Otis! Congratulations!
Thanks for sharing a little bit about how the sausage is made. I was wondering about the methods you used to get the really cool look of the film. Happy Birthday, Amy!
Otis Awesome documentary...you just validated my live music taping career. ;^) I love live music and saving it for the future. Taped Billy Strings in bars back in 2017 and last weekend. If you ever come back to Haw River Ballroom...lets' make it work.
Happy belayed it birthday, Amy. Otis, I don’t think I’ve ever missed you on a Saturday morning. I really enjoyed your film and I’m really really anticipating the next one. I can’t wait. Thank you for all your effort.
Enjoyed my coffee with you this morning Otis and before I forget, Happy Birthday Amy. It is my daughter's birthday also so I hope you both have a truly enjoyable one. Otis you are an American treasure and I am pleased that you have done the documentary with Todd Snider. I have been a fan of his since the 80's since his days with the Nervous Wrecks and "Alright Guy". I truly appreciate what you do Otis. With all your interviews and stories of musicians and events as told by people who worked and traveled with my musical storytelling heroes. Making a long story shorter I just want to thank you for doing what you do and presenting it in your laidback way. Keep on doing what you do, it is worthy.
Otis loved the Todd documentary and chatting with you yesterday. Love the whole busking concept. If you're feeling curious and daring, give my buddy's musical film on RUclips called "the Future is Fresno" by Brian Kenny Fresno. Brian is a Fresno legend, he is a one man show with his primary instrument being Warr guitar. The film is crazy hilarious brilliant that few would understand and most would ask, what did they just watch?
You should be very proud of the Todd Snider Documentary Otis, it was great! I missed the live stream but of course I eventually seen it. I've seen Todd perform once before, so this was a treat for me. Happy birthday Amy! Cheers.
I'm glad to see it documented. It was my birthday that day and I got to spend some of it with Todd at Mindlewood. It was a great show and a cool crowd. You did a great job with the sound, btw. Happy birthday, Amy!
Thank you Amy for sharing Otis with us! He turned a real shitty day around yesterday when I watched his doc on my hero he made with a bunch of reach shitheads. 🎉 Hope your day is awesome!
Todd Snider is truly a special artist. Big fan here. I had the pleasure of opening up for Todd many years ago in Memphis. Also, I really enjoy your content Otis.
