I was one of the weird kids who discovered Tomodachi Collection on the Nintendo DS. I didn't know anything about Japanese ( I'm actually Brazilian xD ) but I loved this game and found it so fun. When I finally got sick of it I moved some Miis from the DS to the Wii (the Mii Channel on the American Wii actually still has this option, but you need to press A + B + 1 and then hold 2 for a few seconds to release this option, it's actually very strange and I remember that I had to try 5 times to appear), two of these Miis I even kept on the 3DS and Wii U, but unfortunately I didn't bring them to the Switch, just my main one. Also, fun fact that I don't see that many people commenting but the Mii Maker on the Nintendo DS actually has more customization options than the Mii Channel on the Wii and when you transfer a Mii from the DS to the Wii these new customizations for the Miis appear when creating the Mii Channel too. (I don't know if this is still valid as the Wii's online services were discontinued a long time ago)
One of the Guitar Hero games on Wii had a side mode where you could connect your DS via Download Play, and I remember there was a really low-res Mii that appeared. Of course it was just the one that you were using on your Wii, but I found it strange to see a Mii on my DS.
Wii Fit U ended up being a spiritual successor to Personal Trainer: Walking with the Fit Meter which is based off of the PokeWalker. Wii Fit U basically has a Personal Trainer: Walking mode in it with the meter and it even works with Dogs just like Walking. Also because it's somewhat relevant, Wii Fit U was actually free for anyone with a Wii Balance Board for a while, you just had to buy a $20 Fit Meter and connect it to the game at some point to keep it. That was really cool of Nintendo.
I've actually almost completed the Earth puzzles in Walk with Me on DS! This last year I remembered that I had the game and the pedometer with me, alongside my brother's and my aunt's, and I took them with me for walks while going around. I'm at 97% of the landmarks, only miss the last three. The little descriptions, the icons and the music of the world are very very charming to have, I can't wait to see what's after. If not, concepts like this have already been expanded (Pokémon Go's Pokéstops come to mind).
FFCC Echoes of Time was such a weird game to have cross-platform. I loved playing it on my DS, but it was really clear that the Wii version was literally just a port, despite having the Mii Mask.
This is very interesting. I remember seeing a video on RUclips way before Tomodachi Life released that showed how to enable the DS Transfer option in the Wii's Mii Maker. Being a little nerd and actually enjoying Miis for what they are, I was quite happy when Tomodachi Life came to 3DS here in Germany.
Dunno if you have already talked about this, but IIRC, you can use the Wii Mii transfer tool also to import Miis on the 3DS. I did it back in the day to transfer my Wii's Miis to my 3DS
This is super interesting!! I personally did a bit of research on specifically Kuruma de ds and it was pretty obscure - it’s good to see it getting more attention !! ^^
10:35 the player on the right won the round via the top players discard. Your hand sadly was nowhere being valid due to the remaining 2 blank tiles being in the discard.
I think sonic colors on the DS is better than Rush adventure, but not as good as Rush. I want to see the full hot take of colors on the next video lol. Also, i was not aware that you had a son, congratulations!
Wow I honestly didn't know Tomodachi life started on the DS and not the 3DS. I also didn't know the connect to DS feature on the Wii in the Mii channel were talking about these games.
Sonic Colors DS is the only version I've played. When I finally got around to seeing footage of the Wii version as a kid, I actually felt it was a better game, and that I wasn't missing out. It's such an oddity how it really is the better game.
2:30 So that's where the 3DS Mii Maker creation interface comes from, find it kinda fascinating, but reusing the same menu layout makes sense for another dual screen system, don't fix what ain't broke.
Whoa, Unicorn Overlord sponsor? That's cool. Wait a second. 0:50, top left. "Baumratte Coliseum"? Baumratte is German for... "Tree Rat"? The heck is a tree rat?
Sonic Colours DS _is_ better than Colours Wii. I can definitively say that despite only having played some of the levels on account of being soft-locked by my broken R button.
I never played sonic colors on wii but I did have it for the DS for a while. I loved that game. I got it from family video when they still existed in my area Anyway, and I bought it for like $6, I think.
I had heard about the Tomodachi game on DS, wasn't aware of the others. I'm surprised a Mii maker wasn't introduced as a DSiWare app. Would have allowed more DS games to take advantage of Miis. Sonic Colors on DS is a great 2D platformer that refines the gameplay from Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure. Sonic Colors on Wii is a mediocre 2D platformer masquerading as a 3D game that is a step down in every way from Sonic Unleashed before it.
I'd love to play it while waiting for the sequel of 'the two' for the Switch! Already got the jp sequel in my hands, the only thing missing is a Japanese 3 or (New or not) 2DS LL, which I'm hopefully getting soon :D
btw if you guys want to know the walk with me ds game is cheap af AND it has an ir sensor sooooo if your one of them pirates that have funny copys of heartgold and soul silver installed on your ds and a pokewalker with out the cartridge (hint hint ) this can take place of the original cart :D
"Miis cannot be defeated" Even when their sidelined in a mediocre re-imagining of Wii Sports that claims it's a sequel when its really not. Yeah, thanks for reminding me of a NintendoLife video that was honestly very disingenuous. It claimed that Nintendo was "killing the Miis" with Switch Sports, when in reality, it was merely side-lining them in favor of the Sportsmates. If anything, I personally found the fact that Switch Sports being announced and released the year after the Switch version of Miitopia to be a slap in the face. I am now worried about a Tomodachi Life game on Switch or Switch 2 being an alien re-imagining that side-lines Miis in favor of something soulless.
Good stuff! Ok, Jon, now please prove whether or not Dōbutsu no Mori runs in 480i with the memory expansion on the N64. Sometimes I think I can tell and others times it looks identical to 240p. So am I just imagining it??? 😵💫
I’m gonna predict what he’s talking about before watching the video he reviews the tomadachi life port that’s a Japan exclusive lemme know if I’m right
This was a great video topic, thanks for making the video! I noticed something though, there's actually a proper Mii maker in both personal trainer walking and the majong game. I've played both games and experienced this for myself but here's some proof to show what I mean: Personal trainer walking. adjusted the time to show a screenshot: ruclips.net/video/FBM1ZJYgQr8/видео.htmlsi=RuYQsvPtY-0QCxTU&t=183 majong: ruclips.net/video/4FXYswpjugM/видео.html

I mean, we should really thank Nintendo Life that actually let him start his cooking carrer.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't tune in just for Jon...
There is a mii maker in Walk with Me! You get to edit your mii after choosing a preset!
Was gonna say this! I remember editing a Mii through this game!
Yes! I still use this every day!
IT’S CALLED “PERSONAL TRAINER WALKING”.

I can not take this many jonners back to back, i'm gonna have a heart attack
Jon walking with his son to teach us about Miis on DS was the most wholesome part of the video.
I love how Jon is able to dig up so many niche and obscure things from the DS and Wii era that I never knew about.
How did I know this was a Jon video just from the title?
because jon's videos are so specific you can just feel they're his
that's why we love him
it sorta feels like the others are slacking in comparison, I'm sure they're doing background stuff but jon's been the face of the channel lately
Jon is hardcore carrying this channel
His mii

I can't believe it wasn't called "Walk with Mii".

GVG is such a great channel. Amazing content. So glad you all decided to start this journey. Brilliant video. Thanks for sharing

Like I see people hating on Sonic Colors for its gameplay and writing and all that, like bruh have you even played the DS version
4:29 Jon is obviously playing MySims Racing for the Nintendo Wii.
This is very interesting.

Someone called Guuse has a video covering the history of Miis.
Jon videos are the perfect length for me to watch on my 15 min breaks at work, best content on the channel 😌
3:08 : what about the “check mii out” channel, which was about showcasing the different creative mii designs people came up with?
Mad that I knew that was Southampton just from the small clip. I went back to watch the psp gps video after this one because of that haha
I honestly fully agree with the Sonic Colors take. It even has a Super Sonic boss, just like a Sonic game should!
Give Freddie some prep time and he'll beat your record in minutes. I believe in him.
Awesome video :]

That gps game sounds a homebrewers dream. Only a matter of time

You had mii at Nintendo DS
I grew up with Sonic Colors DS. That is an objectively correct take. Colors DS is an underrated gem.
I think the feature could have been much more well-used if they hadn't _hidden it behind a button combo???_ Like, the blank space is _right there!_
[gascoigne voice] miis all over the box... you'll be one of them, sooner or later
You’ll rue this day Mr. Cartwright…..Freddie will settle the score soon….
Looking at some of these DS games and appreciating the very specific brand of low-poly 3D models these games had. So damn charming.
Sonic colors DS is one of the best 2D sonic games period!
I am convinced that Miis will outlive the heat death of the universe.
Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune on DS has Miis.
No it does not.
I used the walking game so much in 2022. It’s so fun lol
10:35 the player on the right won the round via the top players discard. Your hand sadly was nowhere being valid due to the remaining 2 blank tiles being in the discard.

We should make a video of all the wii fps games and why games like red steel 2 can never be remade today
I keep thinking that Jon will run out of obscure game console facts. AND YET
I was under the impression that most people consider the DS version of Sonic Colors to be better than the Wii version.
Wow I honestly didn't know Tomodachi life started on the DS and not the 3DS. I also didn't know the connect to DS feature on the Wii in the Mii channel were talking about these games.
