Hey Ryan, How heavy Stainless do you recommend? Also Seen you like to use 80lb Mono for Metal slicing, I'm guessing this is just because they are a lot cheaper than an X-Rap? Have heard however that will get more hits if using mono over wire? what would you recommend? Cheers Mate
Hi Aidan, depends on the species you are chasing. Lesser mackerels 50-60lb wire, Spaniards 80-100lb. Dogtooth and other large toothy critters 150 and up. You will get more hits with mono and yes i make my own metal slices so they are much cheaper and I don't mind losing one or two. But expensive lures or when the mackerel are really thick i use wire.
Moody always with the goodies! I'm chasing spanish macks next Autumn. Planning on using live bait and metal lures. What wire capacity would you suggest for spanish macks up to 40lbs? I plan to keep things simple so not using crimps. I'm guessing the single strand wire is probably the best? Is 88lb wire too much? What would you recommend for both techniques?
Ethan A generally you run a mono leader and wire via swivel to mono leader. There are some vids on this channel already about attaching braid to mono leader using wind on leader system. Cheers
Great content very informative

very good video
Good video. What are your thoughts on trebles vs single inline hooks for lures?
I use single hooks for outside pelagic species and trebles for casting lures for inshore species.
Cheers for that 👍
Thanks Ryan for a good video. What length do you make them to?
Disco2300 about 6 to 12 inches.
Thanks for taking the time to reply Ryan.

Ryan is away at the moment but perhaps he mentions it in the video.
Thanks
Great vid do you then tie braid straight to the wire leader

Ryan Moody Fishing can you tie the braid straight to the wire leader swivel
Ethan A not advisable. Always better to have a mono leader as long fish like Mackerel can touch the braid with their tail and snap your braid.
Ryan Moody Fishing can you ever go braid straight to a swivel then mono leader
Last question how long should your mono leader be
