Solved: The File or Directory Is Corrupted or Unreadable - Hard Drive Wont Open

Ever try to open a USB hard drive or external drive and get the error message: "Location is not available" e:\ is not accessible The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
You can try to run the Chkdsk command in command prompt (CMD) to fix the disk. Now you should be able to recover your data and open the folder to access the files.
THE COMMAND: "CHKDSK /F /"YOUR DRIVE LETTER"
You do not need to type anything else or launch any more commands.
Sometimes, when you plugged in an external hard drive, USB flash drive, SD card or some other storage devices into your computer runs Windows 10/8/7/XP/Vista or some other previous versions, Windows prompts error message: "Drive H:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." If you check the file system of the device, you are likely to find that it is a RAW file system.

Thank you so much, I thought my folder was empty, when I click on its properties it says empty, but at the same time it didn't give me access, so I thought I could just delete it, I followed the steps that you did, and it got fixed, it turned out the folder contained movies and tv shows, more than 100gb lol
My c: drive is unreadable and this fix didn't work and I'm not sure why

I followed the instructions but after I'd restart my laptop, it is written that it is cancelled . Any help?
it says cannot lock drive the volume is still in use
Ohh but my screen is black and says file record segment is unreliable. It says 4 percent complete. Its scary !

I ran command prompt as an administrator, then typed "chkdsk /f d:", it started checking the disk then stopped at stage two showing the following message "Correcting error in index $SDH for file 9. An unspecified error occured (766f6c756d652e63 461)". Any help please ?
hmm nope still not able to delete the folder or it doesn't fix on thumb drive using this chkdsk /f or /r options on the 'd' drive. can't even delete the folder to put a new version out the rmdir complains as well as del even as admin... shift delete doesn't work... good times...

it says access denied what do i do
C:\windows\system32>chkdsk I: /F
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Volume label is New Volume.
Corrupt master file table. Windows will attempt to recover
master file table from disk.
Windows cannot recover master file table. CHKDSK aborted.
