    Wow that’s a gorgeous painting. Thanks for sharing this time-lapse of the process of layers of painting & details to make this. Watching the actual progress of layers with the various colors choices has helped me to be able to paint my daughter’s dog portrait.

    Lovely video tutorial - thanks! What black did you use?

  • @allehotsky20
    @allehotsky20 6 лет назад +6

    Max, your use of black is interesting. Is it Lamp Black, or a mixture? Many artists seem to denigrate the use of black because they say it is too flat, and yet the black you used in both dog portraits bring the dog to life. I like it. Do you also use white?

    • @MaxMoser-Art
      @MaxMoser-Art  6 лет назад +4

      Normally you should mix black from the primary colors either warm or cold to create contrast an depth, but sometimes when i need a really dark tone i just use neutral black. Yes i'm using white for highlights.

    • @allehotsky20
      @allehotsky20 6 лет назад +1

      Thanks. I also use black and white when I feel it is needed. Sometimes I mix Ultramarine Blue and a brown to make black. I was just interested since I find your portraits striking and vibrant and felt that it was the black that made the subject come alive.

    Max - loved watching this video. Oddly - my dog looks like this subject’s twin - and his name is Max! Is this painting for sale by chance?
    Again - dig the music....
    Overall - your video content, subject matter, medium, time-lapse approach, lovely acoustic music - makes me smile and inspires me as an artist.
    Inspiration is my challenge currently - trying to re-establish that ‘joy’.....Suggestions?

      Thank you so much. I did this painting for a friend, it's his dog and he bought the painting from me. I'm glad you like my work and get inspired by it. Joy and painting is a tough subject, i'm not any different. Sometimes you have to continue even though you don't want to. I always get motivation from the sucess of a good painting, then i fail again and need to overcome my doubts.

    Excelent rendition, could you tell us what you would charge for your art? Do you have a basic price, or is it by how long it takes to complete the drawing?

    • @MaxMoser-Art
      @MaxMoser-Art  6 лет назад

      Paintings start at 200€ plus, time is of course the most important factor.

    Max, is that white gouache you are using or a white acrylic? I have used the gouache but it tends to crack if I put it on heavy enough to be totally opaque.

    • @MaxMoser-Art
      @MaxMoser-Art  6 лет назад

      Yes it's Titanium White from my watercolors, Schmincke Horadam. Covering big areas with it is problematic, small details shouldn't crack. Did it fall off the painting? Maybe it's the paper you're using?

    • @sreihart
      @sreihart 6 лет назад

      @@MaxMoser-Art No, I was using it to highlight a tiny area in the eye of a small dog. I use Arches 140 lb. CP. Maybe thinner layers would work better.

    • @MaxMoser-Art
      @MaxMoser-Art  6 лет назад

      That is good paper, yes try to use less color, just enough for it to be opaque.

    Fab drawing and painting skills but why the annoying music? I'd love to hear you talking. I do like this music by th way but not when I'm trying to concentrate on your skill.

    Beautiful! What white are you using that is showing up on top of color? Is it a watercolor that's very thick (i.e. thicker than coffee) or an acrylic or ink? Inquiring minds want to know! 😁
