    Solar and lithium are changing the way people go cruising. My choice is a power cat 50 to 80 feet covered in solar with a massive lithium power pack. As far as engines go, diesel with large generators seems to be preferred to electric drive, but that could very well change in the future. Carbon fiber/epoxy construction is the future of boat building - lighter-stronger-faster, when it becomes common place, prices won't be much higher than the glass boats of today, but they'll hold their value for decades. Enjoy your new boat.

I get comments continually from people , I'm a tropical guy stuck in the Midwest . I had grown banana trees but gave em away due to winter closing in ! Love this channel ! BTW I also stroked 2018, nursing home , wheelchair, but now back on my feet . Christopher Cross ," SAILING" takes me to where I wanna be !

    On the subject of fuel and marina costs. With a big enough fuel and ballast tanks (to compensate fuel usage), you can buy fuel tax-free at huge savings in many commercial ports. Then you can run a couple of generators alternative weeks. Maybe you have to register as a "survey vessel" to enjoy these commercial prices.

    Hey, Bobby. Over time I’ve investigated different modes of travel and at one point I watched videos about boondocking and living in a van. I’m not totally sure what channel I saw it on but they covered advanced solar panels and chargers that could provide enough power to charge the batteries and supply enough capacity to power electric heaters overnight. The company builds their own systems and they’re based in California. I was thinking the channel might have been cheep rvliving but I’m not completely sure. The panels took up about the space of the roof from the rear doors to just behind the front doors. I think they had different output capacities for the same footprint. If I can find the channel or the company name I’ll pass it on to you if you don’t beat me to it.
    I’ve been trying to learn the ins and outs of what sailing would entail as well and the sailing actually looks more attractive than living in a van. The one drawback is I’m a lousy swimmer and it would take awhile to become proficient at it. If I did it would be better for me to have a mostly enclosed cockpit like Delos. I don’t know if you’ve ever delved into it but I’d been curious whether it’s possible for a sailboat to dock without an engine. I did searching and found there are videos out there that shows how it can be done. If I did sail I would like to be able to do it but from what I’ve seen it would need to have a couple crew members to pull it off. That would be a drawback since I tend to be a loner in many cases. But if I did it would be the ocean passage type. It’s kind of at odds with the requirements, I know, but it’s how I turned out.
    I’ll look for the solar information though.

    A solar, hybrid-electric, motor-sailing catamaran seems like it would be the best possible combination for the typical cruiser. ~200kwh of battery, ~20kw of solar, a 80hp diesel generator, and a single, large, inflatable wing, mainsail.

    Yank the big generator and sell it. Then you have room for the battery bank and may even save weight. When I'm not in a hurry on my boat I just run one engine and get almost twice the mileage.

    Sounds to me like some kind of Hybrid boat needs to be designed where you can use the sun the wind and the fuels, to power your boat and all it's needs. Your on the right track and get out your drafting board and figure it out. When your done, you will patten it and sell it to make your living for the rest of your life and help out millions of folks around the world.

    For us land rats knots is not a familiar term. Google tells me 1 knot is approximately 1,151 miles/h, and 1 mile/h is approximately 0.869 knots. Which means traveling at let's say 10 knots = 11,5 miles/h, or around 18,4 km/h. Understandable, of course, but in real terms not exactly lightening fast. Miami to New York seems to be about 1178 nautical miles, translating at a constant 10 knots to a trip of around 117 hours, or 4,88 days non-stop. Am I correct Bob? 🤔 Regards from South Africa!

  • @dougmac9267

    Ouch! That’s expensive. I’ll keep my sail boat. For me it’s way more economical to use and live aboard. Go anywhere, stay as long as I want anytime. Way less expensive. If I had 4000 dollars extra to put in it every time I move it, then I would get a motor drive only. Nice if you can afford it 😊

    Hi Bobby. You mentioned your previous yacht, the CT 56. Just out of curiosity, what happened to 'NautiDogs' after it caught fire and you abandoned it? I ask, because I notice that your intro still shows 'NautiDogs'. Did you manage to sell it and if so, has it been rebuilt by the new owners? That was one beautiful boat.

  • @rwalkerboise3184

    2K solar is going to be strained to power electric motors with enough power to do much. Add to that, using the daylight to run the Motors will not leave sufficient power to charge the lithium battery bank. You might want to think seriously about using electric motors.

    • @pavichapin
      @pavichapin 2 года назад +2

      It will have a large enough diesel generator to power the electric motors.

    This was all bulls@#t as you totally forgot the biggest negative aspect: *emission of carbon gasses* burning all that diesel just to move around, drink beer and play around. Yachts like this (non-solar) should be decommissioned or converted.
