    Looks good! This is one of my favs! This was impressive Quan, however it doesn’t have coconut milk and it’s meant to be eaten with “bagoong” (shrimp paste). The saltiness of the Filipino shrimp paste compliments the kare-kare so well, they’re like husband and wife. Try it next time! You only need a little or just enough of bagoong in every bite. The soup is supposed to be thick, but overall it looks really good.

    I understand your version of it with the coconut water and coconut milk (hey it might even taste good) considering it is my favorite native dish. The sauce with rice is superb!
    It just that the peanut oil combined with the coconut milk (which has LAXATIVE properties) might give me toilet problems LOL!!!

  • @mercgurl80

    Normally kare-kare doesn’t have coconut milk/water, it usually gets thickened up with toasted mochiko flour (sweet rice flour) along with peanut butter, per my mom’s recipe. But I totally want to try your take on the recipe, the coconut milk would make it taste hella good too I bet.

  • @cjsupan6312
    @cjsupan6312 6 лет назад

    Kare kare is usually beef (Beef tripe and meat) and not pork but we Filipinos are creative, so we use pork as an alternative. It doesn't have coconut water and coconut milk but again if you want to be creative then you can put that in. The thickness of the dish comes from Peanut butter alone and of course anatto/atsuete for the color. Vegetables consist of Petchay(bokchoy), sitaw(green beans), Banana bud/heart and eggplant. We eat it with bagoong (Fermented fish or shrimp) because the dish itself is not too salty. It's a compliment to the dish. But i guess it doesn't matter how you cook it as long as it's delicious. So i'm glad you tried one of our famous delicacies. Looking forward to more Filipino dishes.

    Yessss!!! Well done!!! Coconut milk and water was an awesome twist! Never had it in kare kare but I’ll try it! Lol looks legit! And just an FYI, we use the fork to push the food onto the spoon. The spoon is also used as a knife lol!

    Next time you cook kare kare you should add beef tripe and make the sauce thicker by adding cornstarch with water it’s the traditional way to cook it and it taste amazing love your videos keep doing a good job

    • @spc1982
      @spc1982 5 лет назад

    I love tour take on the kare-kare! Yummy! Yeah, some Filipinos add coconut milk/cream on their kare-kare and it makes the dish creamier, but if you like to make the soup thick toast some uncooked rice and grind it to a fine powder and it also adds to the taste. Or just buy the mama sita’s or knorr kare-kare mix. ✌🏻😋

    Im SO impressed right now. I mean, its almost-VERY close to being authentic and its your first time making it? Boss. When eating kare kare, my family likes to put a dollop of butter in top of the hot white rice, and have the shrimp paste on the side as kind of like a dipping sauce. BOMB AF

    Your sauce is too runny. Kare-kare has a thick sauce just because we put a lot of peanut butter and some crushed peanuts. We usually don’t put coconut milk but like what you’ve said. It’s your twist and take on kare-kare. And I know its gonna be good anyways. Haha! Love your videos since day 1!

Kare-kare is not supposed be salty because youre supposed to eat everybite with a little bit of "Bagoong"(the paste like sauce they gave you at the manila place) its fermented shrimp paste from what I can recall. Its a really good combination.

    To thicken the sauce and for that authentic smoky taste, toast some rice flour until golden brown and mix it with the sauce. You'll taste the difference.
