White Noise for Sleep| EMD SD40-2 Idle (25 Minutes)

Enjoy the sound of a dying breed of diesel locomotive, the SD40-2.
Canadian Pacific #5790 was left running in the pits of Waterloo to stay warm so this gave me the opportunity to record her engine.

As a child C&NW left one on a siding behind my house for a week idling, although it was a GP 30 there's no mistaking that EMD sound, love it.

Back when I was a kid the Remanence of Conrail was still quite a lot, the siding in my town always had CR SD40-2’s sitting in that siding. It was so cool to be able to walk up to those locomotives and just look at them and see just how big they were.

This has long been one of my favorite sounds. That two stroke EMD 16-645E3 with the clutch driven turbo is, in my opinion, the most musical engine ever built anywhere.

These SD40-2s’ are the best things General Motors ever built. Pitiful shame GM sold off EMD and went 4stroke. Us rail fans better enjoy this ASMR while we can before these classics are gone!
